Jack Black seemingly confirms live-action Minecraft movie role with funny Instagram post

Is the Super Mario Bros Movie actor about to play Steve in the Minecraft flick?

Hey, did you know there’s a live-action Minecraft movie in the works?

I just found that out. Per reports, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Emma Myers will be in it, as will Jason Momoa. But who will play Steve, who gamers consider the main character of the mega-popular video game played by millions?

The answer, per Deadline, is the same guy who played the voice of Bowser in another video game movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie: Jack Black.

Beyond all of that, we don’t have a lot of information about the plot or what it’ll look like. But Black as Steve would be so fun.

Black posted this on Instagram, seemingly confirming the news:

Neat!

Jack Black shamelessly belting out Taylor Swift lyrics in his underwear is glorious

Jack Black is a legend for this.

Jack Black and Taylor Swift are the duo we never knew we needed.

Taylor Swift has been having one hell of a year. She and Travis Kelce are officially a thing. Her Eras Tour, including a box office smash hit movie, has been wildly successful. Plus, the newest re-record of her music catalog drops Friday, October 27, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Her stardom is undeniable, and she’s even making fans out of some of the biggest stars in the world, like Beyoncé. Yet, I did not have one celebrity on my Bingo card as a fan: the sensational Jack Black.

Apparently, Black is a secret Swiftie.

Warning: NSFW language.

Per Brian Leston of IGN, Black did a stand-up bit at a SAG-AFTRA fundraiser on Wednesday in Los Angeles. After the set, he stripped down to his underwear and took song requests. On-brand.

Somebody in the audience boldly threw out a song, and it was all downhill from there. “I know that one,” Black said very confidently. “Everyone knows that [expletive] song.”

Oh, boy.

Then, he shamelessly belted out the lyrics to Anti-Hero while busting out his signature kicks across the stage. It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem. It’s me. Glorious.

Never change, Jack. Never change.

Jack Black wants a Red Dead Redemption movie or TV series next

Mario movie star Jack Black hoped someone makes a Red Dead Redemption movie, as video game adaptations prove more popular than ever

Mario movie star Jack Black hoped someone makes a Red Dead Redemption movie, as video game adaptations prove more popular than ever. Black, who voices Bowser in Nintendo and Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. Movie, made the comments during an interview with the BBC, where he said he expects more video game storytelling in TV and cinema in the coming years.

“I’m a fan of adaptations, when done right,” Black said. “The Last of Us [HBO] was fantastic. It’s going to win all the awards. They used the video game almost like a storyboard and I was like, ‘Whoa, this looks just the same.’ And there are some great games that have yet to be explored in television or film. Maybe there’s going to be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think that [has] just as good or [an] even better story than The Last of Us.”

Red Dead Redemption and its prequel-sequel Red Dead Redemption 2 follow an outlaw gang of cowboys, misfits, and criminals at the turn of the 20th century as they try carving a place for themselves in a society where greed and modernization at all costs take priority over human lives. Red Dead 2 won nearly two dozen awards when it released in 2018 and even earned a BAFTA nomination for best game.

Rockstar turned down the chance to make a Grand Theft Auto movie in the early 2000s, but that was a different era for film and certainly for television. Now, Black thinks games with strong stories or recognizable characters have a much stronger chance of successfully making the jump.

“The TV and film industries seem to be seeing a little bit of shrinkage,” Black said. “It will be interesting to see what happens to the entertainment industry over the next 20 to 30 years but I think we will be seeing more storytelling from the gaming universe.”

Jack Black is on TikTok and it’s even better than we could have imagined

Look at the big fella move.

Jack Black is arguably the most gifted physical comedian of our time. I can’t tell you the amount of times the man has made me laugh in a film just by running, as he takes a simple act and has a way of throwing in flourishes  — a small skip, the tiniest leap — that make the entire thing work in a new, ridiculously funny way.

He also has that rare agility you occasionally see in bigger fellas (Chris Farley had it), which allows him to switch between bumbling doofus and graceful ballerina and back again, all in a moment or two.

All of which is to say that I shouldn’t have been surprised that Black would be absolutely essential on TikTok. Yet here I was, surprised. Now you can enjoy it. Watch, and be amazed:

In a minute, Black shows off every part of his arsenal. The agility, the goofiness, the faux-klutziness, and then a show-stopper move that someone of his size shouldn’t be able to pull off.

Thank you for this, Jack Black. I stand and applaud.
