Patriots S Jabrill Peppers has realest response you’ll hear after loss

Jabrill Peppers did not sugarcoat Thursday’s loss for the Patriots

New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was blunt about Thursday’s performance against the New York Jets. The Patriots lost by a 24-3 margin in a game in which the Jets dominated throughout.

The Jets recorded 400 total offensive yards, while the Patriots were only able to muster 139 yards. The offensive line gave up seven sacks, and the defense struggled to contain quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns on the evening.

New York was able to score a touchdown in three straight quarters, as the Patriots defense had no answers for the Jets’ offensive attack.

“Divisional game, primetime, we came out and got our asses kicked. Plain and simple,” Peppers told reporters, via NESN.com’s Mike Cole.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Patriots.

They’ll go on the road to take on the San Francisco 49ers as they continue to look for answers on both sides of the ball. One has to wonder where the team goes from here, as multiple positions struggled on Thursday night.

Patriots add key starter to injury report ahead of Week 1 opener

The Patriots had a late addition to the injury report on Saturday

Starting safety Jabrill Peppers is a late addition to the New England Patriots’ injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The team revealed the news on Saturday.

Peppers potentially being out would be a huge loss for the Patriots on the backend of the defense. Per the injury designation, the veteran defensive back is dealing with a hip injury that has him listed as questionable to play in the season opener.

The Patriots will need all of the help they can get on the backend of the defense in a matchup against a returning Joe Burrow and the explosive Bengals offense.

If Peppers can’t play, the Patriots would likely turn to veteran Jaylinn Hawkins to fill his role. Hawkins has plenty of experience as a starter, and he’s a solid option as a replacement.

But then again, there really is no replacing a player like Peppers on the roster.

Patriots name six team captains for 2024 season

The 2024 team captains are set

The 2024 team captains are set for the New England Patriots.

On Monday, the team revealed that David Andrews, Jabrill Peppers, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Cardona and Deatrich Wise Jr. are the new captains.

Andrews, Bentley and Wise are returning captains from the 2023 season. That group of players also included Mac Jones, Hunter Henry and Matthew Slater.

Jones was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Slater rode off into the sunset in retirement. That helped set the stage for the new captains under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.

The Patriots are undergoing significant change in their first year without coach Bill Belichick. There have been major personnel and coaching staff changes ahead of a season filled with uncertainty. It’s a rebuilding year that is sure to come with disappointment and frustrations along the way.

But the team has made solid moves in the offseason to set themselves up nicely for the future. It all begins in Sunday’s road clash with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jabrill Peppers to Jalen Hurts “you know what happened last time”

Jabrill Peppers subtly disses Jalen Hurts in this funny banter after joint practice between #Eagles and #Patriots

There was an amusing moment between Jalen Hurts and Jabril Peppers during the Philadephia Eagles and New England Patriots joint practice camp recently when Peppers explained to QB Hurts that he was just sacked on the last play in the drill.

The moment between them was posted on the official NFL Twitter. It’s worth watching the banter between the two while they laugh about the last time Hurts was sacked by Peppers, who subtly tries to dig into the QB about how hard he was hit.

This part of the practice was no-contact given the flags visible on each player, so it’s understandable why Hurts and Pepper may not have been on the same page about whether the play was finished or not as Hurts tossed the ball after Pepper rushed past him. Watch the play here on the official Patriots YouTube channel.

There’s no question these two will meet again and hopefully, both are mic’d up when it happens.

Patriots veteran defender impressed by rookie QB Drake Maye

Drake Maye is making a strong early impression

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is impressing veteran defenders, as the rookie is now almost a week into his first NFL training camp.

Safety Jabrill Peppers is one teammate who admitted he was impressed.

“He looks good, man. He’s getting more comfortable with the scheme, him and his guys are getting the right timing. He has exceptional arm talent,” Peppers said, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “We’re making it hard for him [on defense] and he’s reading it out. He’s only 21.

“He has Jacoby [Brissett] to learn from, Jacoby’s seen a lot of football, so I definitely think he has a good mentor. And Kobe has been a willing mentor for him, so I think that is the best thing about it.”

The veteran safety should be able to get a good look at Maye over the next couple of seasons.

The rookie is looking to solidify his place in a Patriots quarterback room that includes Brissett, Bailey Zappe and Joe Milton III. The development of the room itself is going to be something to watch throughout training camp.

Time will tell how far along Maye is at the NFL level, as he continues to develop under offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. However, the real test will come during padded practices and preseason action.

Former Michigan football S Jabrill Peppers signs contract extension with Patriots

Congrats, Jabrill! #GoBlue

He was the star of the lauded Michigan football defense during his short tenure in Ann Arbor, playing both safety and VIPER, as well as — well — about 38 other positions, and it turns out he has some staying power in the NFL.

Jabrill Peppers bounced around in his early tenure in the league, being initially drafted by Cleveland before ending up in his home state of New Jersey playing for the Giants. He eventually ended up with the Patriots and New England doesn’t want to see a good thing end.

So they put a ring on it — figuratively.

According to the NFL, Peppers and the Patriots agreed to a three-year contract extension that could pay $30 million.

Peppers was an integral piece to the Michigan football defense in 2016 in particular, but also saw some time on offense in what was affectionately — and sometimes unaffectionately — referred to as the ‘Peppers-cat.’ While he hasn’t dabbled as much at numerous positions like he did in Ann Arbor, Peppers has thrived being a bit less of a positional dilettante in the NFL.

Instant analysis of Jabrill Peppers’ contract extension with Patriots

Instant analysis of Jabrill Peppers’ new deal

The New England Patriots continued their spree of in-house signings on Friday by agreeing to a three-year extension with safety Jabrill Peppers, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

According to Yates, the deal has a base value of $24 million and is worth up to $30 million.

This was a strong move for the Patriots considering Peppers was one of the team’s best players last season. An argument could easily be made that he was the team’s defensive MVP with 78 tackles, eight pass deflections, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

The Patriots extended Kyle Dugger back in April, and now with Peppers under contract, they have ensured their core defensive backfield remains intact for the foreseeable future.

Peppers is a player who would have had plenty of offers on the free agent market. The price could have been even higher if he put together another stellar season, and the Patriots might have been pulled into a bidding war for his services.

However, they avoided all of that by locking in a deal early.

The Patriots have now extended Peppers, Dugger, Christian Barmore, Anfernee Jennings, Mike Onwenu, Rhamondre Stevenson and Hunter Henry to long-term deals. Lead personnel executive Eliot Wolf is using some of the millions in available cap space to reward the best players on the roster.

The new deal with the Patriots makes Peppers one of the top-15 highest-paid safeties in the league, averaging around $8 million annually. It’s a win-win for both sides.

Peppers gets the biggest contract of his NFL career, and the Patriots keep one of the best defensive backfields in the league intact. It’s another home run hit for Wolf.

Report: Jabrill Peppers agrees to three-year extension with Patriots

Jabrill Peppers agreed to a contract extension with the Patriots.

The New England Patriots and safety Jabrill Peppers agreed to a three-year contract extension on  Friday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The base value of the deal is $24 million and worth up to $30 million.

Peppers was signed as a free agent by the Patriots in 2022. He has since become one of the main stabilizers of the New England defense, recording 138 combined tackles, two interceptions and eight pass deflections.

Peppers has created a formidable safety combo with Kyle Dugger, who also received a contract extension this offseason. This locks in a player in Peppers who is entering the prime years of his career. Furthermore, this reinforces the fact that Patriots management wants to keep their in-house players.

Peppers will look to have another strong season for the Patriots in 2024.

This contract ensures the team maintains consistency at the safety position for the foreseeable future. The Patriots defense is one of the strongest units in the NFL, and it is smart to keep it intact for as long as possible.

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers already impressed by newest roster addition

Jabrill Peppers commented on one of the newest additions to the Patriots’ roster

New England Patriots safety Jabril Peppers is excited about the addition of Jaylinn Hawkins.

Hawkins was signed by the organization back in March in hopes of adding more veteran safety depth to an already-loaded position. He most recently played with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he recorded 14 tackles and a pass deflection last season.

Now, he joins a Patriots safety group that’s expected to be one of the best in the NFL.

Peppers factors heavily into the equation considering he’s formed quite the one-two punch at the top of the depth chart, next to Kyle Dugger. He is pleased with what he’s seen from Hawkins to this point.

“Oh, man, that guy, effort all day,” Peppers told media members. “He just doesn’t stop. I think he won the—got the most points for practice. Running to the ball, getting his hands on the ball, punching at the ball. Guy got a high motor, smart. Very versatile. He fit right in from the first day. So we’re happy to have him.”

Hawkins brings a strong skill set to the table for a Patriots defense that is going to be amongst the best in the NFL this season. How he’s utilized and rotated in the mix will be something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks at training camp.

Jabrill Peppers revealed one goal ahead of contract year with Patriots

Jabrill Peppers has big plans in store for 2024

New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers is motivated heading into the 2024 season, even though he’ll be playing on an expiring contract. He posted a story on Instagram in which he shared his goals for the upcoming season.

“Contract year, watch how I make some [expletive] shake,” Peppers posted.

Peppers reported 78 combined tackles, two interceptions and a sack last season.

This will be a big year for the veteran defensive back in his efforts to lock down a new long-term deal. He was originally brought to New England as a free agent in 2022. He quickly became one of the pillars of the New England defense and found a role alongside Kyle Dugger.

Time will tell if that pillar continues to stand after the 2024 season. The Patriots run the risk of losing Peppers if they aren’t able to agree to an extension before free agency next year.
