Former MSU football DE Itayvion ‘Tank’ Brown enters transfer portal

Former Michigan State football defensive end Itayvion ‘Tank’ Brown has entered the transfer portal

Former Michigan State football defensive end Itayvion ‘Tank’ Brown has entered the transfer portal.

It was announced last week that Brown had been dismissed from the Spartans’ football program earlier this spring after recent legal trouble. He is facing multiple gun charges which include a felony carrying a concealed weapon charge.

Brown appeared in eight games during his two seasons at Michigan State. He transferred to Michigan State from Minnesota following the 2020 season.

Brown was one of the Spartans involved in last year’s tunnel fight at Michigan Stadium following the rivalry game with the Wolverines. He was suspended for the remainder of the season and was reinstated to the team following the conclusion of the 2022 season.

Itayvion Brown dismissed from Michigan State football program, facing gun charges

It looks like Itayvion ‘Tank’ Brown’s time with Michigan State football has come to an end. Brown, who is facing multiple gun charges which include a felony carrying a concealed weapon charge, was dismissed from the program last month, a team spokesman said in a written statement.

Brown is also facing misdemeanor firearms possession while under the influence charge.

Brown was also one of the seven Spartans criminally charged for the Michigan tunnel incident back in the fall.

Which under-the-radar player could turn some heads for the Spartans in 2021? That’s a question the Spartans Wire staff is looking to answer ahead of opening kickoff next week.

With the Michigan State 2021 season set to begin next week, the Spartans Wire staff is offering up their thoughts and insight on numerous hot topics and burning questions surrounding the team. That includes a look at some under-the-radar players that could have a breakout season in 2021.

Here’s who the Spartans Wire staff thinks could have an unexpected breakout season this year:

Three Spartans listed in 247Sports’ Top 100 transfers rankings

Three new Spartans are ranked amongst the top 100 transfers in the country, according to 247Sports.

Three new Spartans are ranked amongst the top 100 transfers in the country, according to 247Sports.

Clint Brewster of 247Sports outlined his top 100 transfers from this offseason, and three incoming transfers for Michigan State cracked his list. Those three Spartans are:

  • No. 79 – RB Kenneth Walker III (from Wake Forest)
  • No. 82 – LB Quavaris Crouch (from Tennessee)
  • No. 98 – LB Itayvion Brown (from Minnesota)

On the flip side of that, none of the many Spartans that have left the program through the transfer portal made this list. So that would suggest Michigan State has experienced quite some success in adding talented players via the portal while not losing any true key contributors.

I personally believe Walker and Crouch could be higher on this list based on the type of production they had at their previous schools. But it’s still impressive and nice to see these three guys recognized amongst the top 100 transfers in the country.

Former Minnesota linebacker Itayvion Brown is officially enrolled at Michigan State, the program confirmed on Wednesday.

Michigan State football welcomed numerous new players to the program this past weekend, but Brown was the lone known transfer that had yet to enroll. The slight delay caused some to wonder if things had change since his commitment via the transfer portal in late March — but those doubts were put to rest on Wednesday.

Brown — nicknamed Tank — is a former four-star recruit from St. Louis. Brown didn’t play in his lone season with the Gophers this past year, but is expected to make a big impact for the Spartans right away.

Brown will have four years of eligibility with the Spartans.
