BOOM! Ohio State football sees 2025 running back Isaiah West commits on Father’s Day

BOOM! The Buckeyes add to their No. 1 ranked 2025 class

It seems like Ohio State football is on another one of its fantastic recruiting runs.

Over the last 12 days the Buckeyes have seen the 2025 class grow as running back Bo Jackson, safety Faheem Delane, and wide receiver Quincy Porter all joined the fold. You can add a fourth with running back [autotag]Isaiah West[/autotag] pulling the trigger for Ohio State on Father’s Day.

The Philadelphia native stands 5-foot, 11-inches and weighs 208-pounds. West is the nation’s No. 527 overall prospect and 44th running back according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

West was previously commited to Kentucky, but an impending Buckeye offer changed his mind and reopened the process. This weekend’s official visit sealed the deal.

With West joining the class, Ohio State now has 16 commitments in a class that keeps its No. 1 ranking. With two running backs in the group, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they added a third, with Jordon Davison at the top of the list.

Running back target decommits from Kentucky, trending toward Ohio State

The Buckeyes are working on the flip

Many have been interested in what new Ohio State football running backs coach Carlos Locklyn’s approach to recruiting would be.

We are finding out fairly quickly that he likes to cast a wide net. That net took him to a place that’s very familiar to Buckeyes fans: St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia. The same high school that sent Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord to Columbus could be sending another soon.

Running back [autotag]Isaiah West[/autotag] was visited by Locklyn earlier this month. While he was committed to Kentucky, he apparently was extremely interested in the opportunity to play for Ohio State. When West decommitted from Kentucky on Monday, he opened the door for the Buckeyes.

Since reopening his recruitment, West has seen two 247Sports crystal ball picks entered for Ohio State, a sign the Buckeyes most likely lead in his recruitment. Although his ranking isn’t what fans are accustomed to — the 247Sports composite has him No. 503 overall and No. 45 among backs — 247Sports’ in-house rankings have him much higher.

Expect Ohio State to sign at least two, and possibly three, backs in the 2025 class. It’s looking like West will be on of those as the Buckeyes don’t have a back committed in the class.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native is 247Sports’ No. 204 player in the class of 2025, No. 11 running back and No. 6 recruit from the state of Pennsylvania. His decorated offer sheet includes Kentucky, new front-runner Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

Badger247’s Evan Flood correctly predicted the four-star running back to choose Kentucky back at the start of March. West has received two updated crystal ball predictions since decommitting from the Wildcats; both predict Ohio State as his destination.

Luke Fickell’s class of 2025 ranks 20th in the nation with 10 players committed. The group does not have a running back committed, but the program finished the 2024 cycle with three at the position.

Four-star 2025 running back Isaiah West decommits from Kentucky football

Running back Isaiah West decommits from Kentucky football with Marquise Davis in the fold.

Kentucky football picked up a 2025 commitment from a running back recently in Marquise Davis, a four-star player player. On Monday, they lose a four-star running back in that same class, as Isaiah West has chosen to decommit from the Wildcats, according to 247sports.

West committed to the Wildcats in March, but since then visited Ohio State, who are now the favorites to land him. He plans to take an official visit with the Buckeyes soon.

Kentucky places a great deal of importance on its running backs, and losing West isn’t ideal, but Davis mitigates the hurt somewhat. He’s actually the higher rated player in On3’s rankings, and could become the next Wildcats star ball carrier.

The 2025 recruiting class is still in the process of coming together for coach Mark Stoops and the Cats. The loss of West brings their total down to five players so far, but they are certainly still working to bring in more quality recruits.

The loss of West stings, but it happens to all teams. They’ll no doubt be back to work on replacing him soon enough.
