2020 NFL draft: Top prospects to watch in National Championship Game

Monday night’s national title showdown between LSU and Clemson is loaded with top prospects for the 2020 NFL draft

This coming Monday all eyes will be on the National Championship Game in New Orleans, Louisiana. While both teams are playing for college football immortality, for select players it goes beyond their final game in a college uniform.

There will be plenty NFL scouts in attendance as they get one final opportunity to put their notes together in a game before the offseason bowl games, combines and pro day workouts.

LSU TIGERS

QB Joe Burrow

At this point it seems like a foregone conclusion that Burrow will be the number one overall selection at this point. His Heisman season put him on the map and with the Cincinnati Bengals likely done with the Andy Dalton era all but over, look for Burrow to take off one tigers jersey and trade it for one in orange and black.

2020 NFL draft: 7 players the Panthers could pick at No. 7

2020 NFL draft: 7 players the Panthers could pick at No. 7

The Panthers will be picking at No. 7 when the 2020 NFL draft comes around in April. General manager Marty Hurney has built his reputation on an excellent batting average in the first round. The organization will need Hurney to make another splash pick, because as we just witnessed this team has a lot of ground to gain on contenders like the Saints.

Here are seven players who might be on the board when it’s the Panthers’ turn to pick at No. 7.

Auburn DT Derrick Brown

Dontari Poe, Vernon Butler and Gerald McCoy might all be gone by the time the draft comes. That means the Panthers have to reload their interior defensive line, even with Kawann Short returning. Brown (6-foot-5, 318 pounds) is the best defensive tackle in this class by far. Over the last two seasons, he’s totaled 8.5 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss. Brown has also forced three fumbles and broke up six passes. Drafting a disruptive force like Brown would give Carolina the young foundation it needs for the next generation of tackles.

Broncos select LB Isaiah Simmons in 2020 NFL mock draft

The Broncos land Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons in the first round of this 2020 NFL mock draft.

In his latest three-round 2020 NFL mock draft for Draft Wire, Luke Easterling has the Denver Broncos selecting Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons with the 10th overall pick in the first round. Here is Easterling’s commentary with the selection:

This defense needs a three-down playmaker at the second level, and this pick would be the perfect fit. Simmons is a rare athlete and a versatile defender who can matchup with the best player on any offense, making him the kind of guy opposing offenses have to scheme for on a weekly basis.

Simmons (6-4, 230 pounds) is a linebacker/safety who has totaled 93 tackles (including 14.5 tackles for losses) and seven sacks this season. He has also intercepted two passes, broken up six passes, recovered one fumble and forced two fumbles.

Denver has been lacking a linebacker who can cover tight ends for years so Simmons seems like an ideal fit for Vic Fangio’s defensive unit.
