The trip to Iowa is one of the most important games remaining on Wisconsin’s 2024 schedule. A win could become critical if the premier home matchups against Penn State and top-ranked Oregon turn to losses. Also, it’s another opportunity to avenge a tough loss from Luke Fickell’s first season.

Leave your calendar completely clear on Saturday, Nov. 2, because Wisconsin’s game at Iowa could still be in any time slot.

Stay tuned early next week as an official kickoff time is announced.

Updated Big Ten football standings after Week 8: Indiana and Oregon in first-place tie

Could we get an Oregon vs. Indiana Big Ten championship game? Updated Big Ten football standings after Week 8.

While Penn State was off this past week, the Nittany Lions remained one of three undefeated teams in Big Ten play this fall. But Penn State is now, technically, looking up in the updated Big Ten conference standings following the results of Week 8. Indiana and Oregon remained undefeated this season and improved to 4-0 in Big Ten play with blowout wins this weekend. Penn State will not face either team in the regular season, so watching what they do is critical if Penn State can continue to take care of its own schedule the rest of the way. Penn State is gearing up for a challenging three-game stretch beginning with this week’s road trip to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin is seemingly surging at a good time too with another dominant performance on the scoreboard against its opponent. Wisconsin has outscored its last three opponents by a combined score of 117-16 (Rutgers, Northwestern, and Purdue). Of course, the Badgers will also be facing their biggest challenge since playing Alabama and USC in back-to-back weeks in September.

Here is a look at the updated Big Ten football standings at the conclusion of Week 8.

B1G W B1G L W L
Indiana 4 0 7 0
Oregon 4 0 7 0
Penn State 3 0 6 0
Illinois 3 1 6 1
Wisconsin 3 1 5 2
Ohio State 2 1 5 1
Iowa 2 2 4 3
Washington 2 2 4 3
Michigan 2 2 4 3
Michigan State 2 2 4 3
Nebraska 2 2 5 2
Minnesota 2 2 4 3
Northwestern 1 3 3 4
Maryland 1 3 4 3
Rutgers 1 3 4 3
USC 1 4 3 4
UCLA 1 4 2 5
Purdue 0 4 1 6

Indiana, Oregon, Penn State, and Illinois are all officially bowl-eligible. No team in the Big Ten is ineligible for postseason play, but Purdue is now sitting on six losses this season, putting them on the brink of being the first Big Ten to be ruled ineligible for a bowl game this season.

Notre Dame is in great position to flip a Big Ten 2025 in-state commitment

The Irish could soon flip the Big Ten commit

As had been reported late last week, in-state 2025 offensive lineman [autotag]Cameron Herron[/autotag] was taking an official visit to South Bend to see Notre Dame host Stanford.

The Irish are pretty straightforward when it comes to recruiting, when they bring in a local star later in the process, the intentions are simple. Get this young man to stay home and play for the Blue and Gold.

While Herron is committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes, it didn’t stop the 6-foot, 3-inch and 275-pounder to visit his home state school. It seems like the short trip went extremely well, as on Sunday night On3’s Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for the nation’s No. 473 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings to flip to Notre Dame.

Herron fits everything that the Irish are looking for in a prospect, strong academically (he also has offers from Duke and Northwestern) and athletically. Hopefully the lineman flips his commitment and stays home to play for Notre Dame.

Warren Central offensive lineman Cameron Herron poses for a photo Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis.

Notre Dame will host in-state offensive lineman committed to Iowa today

A flip candidate is on campus today

Notre Dame football is extremely picky when recruiting inside its home state of Indiana, but it seems like they have found another prospect that fits what they are looking for.

Indianapolis offensive lineman [autotag]Cameron Herron[/autotag], who is currently committed to Iowa, will be on campus for an official visit according to a report by On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 275-pound interior lineman is ranked as the country’s No. 473 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. While Herron’s ranking doesn’t seem like it will move the needle, the Hawkeyes, like the Irish, have a great eye for recruiting offensive lineman.

This visit shouldn’t surprise anyone, as the need for an interior lineman in the class is fairly obvious.

The Irish currently have only tackles committed in the 2025 class on the offensive line, so adding a prospect on the inside makes plenty of sense when looking at the construct of the group.

Hopefully Herron, like in-state athlete Brandon Logan, realizes that everything he wants to accomplish at the collegiate level can be done closer to home in South Bend.

Iowa women’s basketball talks how Lucy Olsen can replace Caitlin Clark, late-game offense

Iowa women’s basketball discussed how new guard Lucy Olsen can replace Caitlin Clark and help the Hawkeyes’ in late-game scenarios.

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team is reloading this year rather than rebuilding with the departure of Caitlin Clark. Her departure to the WNBA left a hole in the guard spot for Iowa, but they are reloading with talent and looking to pick up where they left off.

Filling that spot is Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen. The senior averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists last year for the Wildcats. She is looking to put up similar numbers for Iowa there but also in situational play as well.

An area Caitlin Clark often bailed out Iowa was when the shot clock was running out or it was the end of the game and they needed a bucket. It appears those duties will go to Olsen this year and she is supported by her coaches to take on that role.

Abby Stamp, Iowa’s assistant coach, was asked about how the Hawkeyes find offense in those scenarios. She praised Lucy Olsen’s mentality and explained why she can handle it.

“Lucy has that switch where it’s like, ‘Nobody’s scoring? I’m going to go get this done.’ That is what you need in those situations. At the end of the quarter, she’s very versed to take the big shots. She’s ready, she’s willing,” Stamp said.

Olsen won’t be alone during those moments, though. The Hawkeyes have a strong veteran presence on this team that includes multiple players who have made big shots in big games and played in high-stakes games such as the National Championship.

Olsen will likely get the shot when things are called in the huddle, but as often happens, plan B comes into play and Iowa can also rely on Hannah Stuelke, Sydney Affolter, and others to step up.

Former Ohio State receiver enters transfer portal once again

Off to find a new home again #GoBucks

In today’s world of college athletics, it’s not uncommon to see players hit the transfer portal. It can be for a variety of reasons from playing time to just wanting to be closer to family. With the plethora of talent that Ohio State brings in each year, it has become expected that some will leave for what they see as greener pastures.

It was the case for former four-star receiver, Kaleb Brown after seeing the writing on the wall. Brown entered the transfer portal and somewhat surprisingly headed for the cornfields of Iowa in the spring of 2023. Brown has now announced that he’ll redshirt the rest of the 2024 season and enter the transfer portal once again.

Brown appeared in 11 games with the Hawkeyes in 2023 recording 22 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball nine times for 54 yards. This year Brown couldn’t seem to find a place in Iowa’s revamped offense appearing in only three games, catching one pass for 18 yards.

What Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said about Ohio State postgame

Ferentz, as always, heaps praise on the opponent when it makes sense. #GoBucks

Ohio State ran its record to 5-0 on the season after a convincing and dominating win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday. The start may have been a little slower than OSU fans wanted, but the Buckeyes came out in the second half and exerted their dominance on the way to a 35-7 victory.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz knew it would be an uphill climb to waltz into Ohio Stadium and find a way to go toe-to-tow with Ohio State, and in the end it was too much to ask.

Ferentz met with the media after the game to provide his assessment of his team’s play but also to give credit to the Buckeyes on how talented of a team they are. In case you missed any of his comments, we have them here thanks to our YouTube channel.

In it, Ferentz talks about freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the veteran and talented defensive line for OSU, the talent on the Ohio State sideline in general, and more.

It’s now time for Ohio State to prepare for what many thought would be the game of the year. The Buckeyes will practice this week in preparation for the road trip to Oregon, one that will be a top five matchup.

We’ll have coverage leading up to, during, and after the game as usual, so come back and check in with us often.

Ohio State football breaks ridiculous Iowa streak in 35-7 win

Ohio State football beat up on the Iowa Saturday afternoon, and in doing so, it snapped a lengthy Hawkeyes streak.

Ohio State football welcomed Iowa to Ohio Stadium Saturday, and it left the Hawkeyes with one of their worst defeats in quite a while.

The Buckeyes started off slow, taking just a 7-0 lead into the half, but they exploded in the third scoring, totaling 21 points in the first period after the halftime break.

Transfer quarterback Will Howard was a monster and will be in Iowa nightmares tonight as he ended with 209 yards and a total of five touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground. Freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith chipped in 89 yards and a score as well.

That said, the Buckeyes were the first team to score on the opening drive against Iowa in two years. RJ Young reiterated just how impressive that was.

Ohio State improved to 5-0 with the win, dropping Iowa to 3-2. It will have its most important matchup so far this season in Week 7 as it heads to Eugene, Oregon.

There, it’ll take on the top-ten Ducks in a rocking Autzen Stadium. For the Buckeyes, it’ll be their first real test of the season.

WATCH: Emeka Egbuka scores first touchdown of the day

WATCH: Emeka Egbuka scores first touchdown of the day #GoBucks

Ohio State football has kicked off against the Iowa Hawkeyes and it looks like the offense has picked up right where it left off last week as it marched right down the field and ended the drive with an Emeka Egbuka touchdown. There is still a substantial amount of time left in the first half and Egbuka has already left his mark on the stat sheet with three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Egbuka is currently the leading receiver for the Buckeyes, but we will see if it stays that way for long as Will Howard loves to spread the ball around and has already shared the love with four different receivers. Iowa has a reputation for being one of the strongest defenses in college football and OSU moved right through them on the first drive. Ohio State is currently leading the Hawkeyes, 7-0. Check out the Egbuka highlight below:

Live updates: Ohio State Buckeyes football vs Iowa Hawkeyes week 6 #GoBucks

Ohio State football will kick off against the Iowa Hawkeyes at 3:30 p.m. today in Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes are expected to win by approximately three touchdowns, but the Iowa rushing attack is aiming to slow the game and make things difficult for the Ohio State defense,

OSU currently sits ranked No. 3 in the nation according to the US LBM Coaches Poll, while the Hawkeyes are unranked, they are receiving votes. Regardless of what Iowa is ranked, this is very clearly a good team as evidenced by a defense that ranks in the top 20 in the nation in both points allowed per game with 13.75 points and total yards allowed per game with 272.8 yards. According to the ESPN SP+ advanced statistics, the Hawkeyes have the number one defense.

Jay Higgins is the leader of this aggressive and consistent defense, the All-American caliber linebacker will be looking to make headlines against this dynamic Buckeye offense.
