Packers coach Matt LaFleur provides injury updates following win over Seahawks

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur provided injury updates on several players coming out of Sunday night’s win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur provided injury updates on several players coming out of Sunday night’s win over the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers don’t practice officially this week until Thursday with a Monday night game coming up against the New Orleans Saints in Week 16, so the first injury report of the week is still two days out.

On linebacker Quay Walker, who injured his ankle in Seattle and missed the second half: “We’ll give him through the week to see where he’s at, but I’d say it’s more of a week-to-week type deal.” LaFleur said something similar on defensive back Javon Bullard last week, and he missed the win in Seattle. Edgerrin Cooper, Eric Wilson and Isaiah McDuffie would handle the majority of the snaps at linebacker if Walker can’t play against the Saints.

On Bullard, who injured his ankle in Detroit and didn’t play last week: “We’ll see. We have to get him out there on the practice field and see how he’s moving around. He’s definitely moving around the facility better, but that doesn’t mean you can go out and play a football game.” Without Bullard, the Packers used Keisean Nixon in the slot against the Seahawks.

On Jordan Love, who appeared to be limping or in pain following an off-schedule play in the second half: “He should be alright. He got a shot (hit) to his thigh or something.” Love didn’t miss any snaps to end the game. LaFleur didn’t expect any limitations this week.

The Packers could return running back MarShawn Lloyd from the non-football illness list this week. Tight end Luke Musgrave is designated to return from injured reserve — he practiced in a limited capacity last week and could be activated at any time.

The Saints are dealing with several big injuries. Quarterback Derek Carr is not expected to play, and running back Alvin Kamara has a groin injury coming out of Sunday’s loss to the Washington Commanders. The Saints won’t have receiver Chris Olave, tight end Taysom Hill, cornerback Paulson Adebo or receiver Rashid Shaheed, who are all on injured reserve.

Commanders receive difficult injury news ahead of Week 15

Tough injury news for the Commanders ahead of Week 15.

The Washington Commanders are coming off a much-needed bye week. After 13 consecutive games without a break, the Commanders had Week 14 off before returning to play in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints.

Unfortunately, head coach Dan Quinn had some bad news ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Starting wide receiver Noah Brown suffered an injury against Tennessee and will be out “for a while.”

According to Quinn, Brown suffered a “significant internal injury.” Brown left the Week 13 game due to a rib injury.

Brown is third on Washington in targets (56), receptions (35) and receiving yards (453). He’s averaging 12.9 yards per reception and has played in 56% of the Commanders’ offensive snaps this season.

Brown was signed just before the season after the Houston Texans surprisingly released him. The 28-year-old Brown immediately made his present felt for Washington and is best remembered for his ‘Hail Mary’ touchdown reception to defeat the Chicago Bears in Week 8.

Quinn expressed confidence in the other receivers. The Commanders need someone to step up opposite Terry McLaurin, with rookie Luke McCaffrey, Olamide Zaccheaus and Dyami Brown all likely to receive even more playing time in the coming weeks. Washington also opened the 21-day practice window for veteran wideout Jamison Crowder, who has been on injured reserve for much of the season.

Brown was not ruled out for the season, but it appears to be a season-ending injury with only four weeks remaining in the regular season.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur provides injury updates to start Week 15

Packers coach Matt LaFleur had injury updates for Javon Bullard, Evan Williams and others on Monday.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur provided a host of injury updates in his first availability of Week 15 on Monday.

On safety Javon Bullard, who is dealing with a new ankle injury: “I would say it’s more week to week.” Bullard left Thursday night’s loss to the Detroit Lions after suffering the injury in coverage. He was spotted on crutches leaving the locker room, but it appears a significant, long-term injury is off the table.

On safety Evan Williams, who suffered a concussion in Detroit: “He is in the protocol right now.” The rookie safety will need to pass through protocol this week to play Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

On if receiver Romeo Doubs has cleared concussion protocol: “He has not.” Doubs first suffered the concussion on Nov. 24. He practiced in a limited capacity three times last week but still hasn’t passed the final stages of the protocol, a worrisome sign.

On receiver Dontayvion Wicks, who took a hard fall at the end of a catch in Detroit: “He’s fine.” The Packers never listed Wicks with an in-game injury.

LaFleur didn’t have an update or wasn’t asked about cornerback Jaire Alexander, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper or cornerback Corey Ballentine, who all missed last week’s loss in Detroit. Also, offensive lineman Jordan Morgan and tight end Luke Musgrave are eligible to come off injured reserve this week, but no information was acquired on either player.

The Packers won’t hold an official practice or issue the first injury report of the week until Wednesday.

LSU men’s basketball forward Jalen Reed suffers season ending injury

LSU basketball suffered a big loss with a key contributor tearing his ACL

LSU men’s basketball will play the rest of the 2024-25 season without one of its key forwards.

On Wednesday, Tigers’ head coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] announced that Jalen Reed suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the opening minutes of Tuesday’s win over Florida State.

“We are devastated for Jalen as he worked extremely hard in preparation for his junior year,” McMahon said. “He is an absolute joy to coach and earned the role of captain from his teammates. We look forward to Jalen making a full recovery and continuing his successful basketball career.”

The junior forward ranks second on the team in rebounds per game with 6.5 while also chipping in 11.1 points per game. He has started every game this season along with 20 games. Reed started 20 of 32 games last season, averaging 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

The Jackson, MS native played for Oak Hill Academy in Virginia in high school before transferring to the Santa Clarita California school. In the 2022 class, Reed was a four-star prospect, ranking as the No. 45 overall prospect and the No. 7 power forward by On3.

Cedric Tillman injury vs Steelers: Latest news on Browns WR

Browns WR Cedric Tillman is dealing with a head injury. Here are the latest updates.

Cleveland Browns starting receiver Cedric Tillman left the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tillman went to the medical tent during the waning seconds of the third quarter.

Tillman suffered a head injury from a big hit at the first down marker on a third and medium. Tillman fought through multiple Steelers defenders before getting injured. Tillman was escorted to the medical tent immediately and ushered to the locker room for further evaluation in this game.

Tillman had an up-and-down game against the Steelers. He made a big catch and run with his first target before fumbling the ball deep into the Steelers’ territory. The Browns managed to stop the Steelers offense from scoring on the turnover. Tillman is a good player, and he needs more experience. Hopefully, he can rejoin the team soon enough.

The Cleveland Browns are leading the Pittsburgh Steelers on primetime 18-13.  The Browns must hold off the Steelers for another quarter to give their home crowd a much-needed victory.

Commanders vs. Cowboys injury report: Latest updates, news for Thursday

The second injury report for Week 12 is out and the Cowboys had six players out.

The Washington Commanders returned to practice Thursday in preparation for the Dallas Cowboys. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore continues to miss practice, but there were positive developments regarding Lattimore.

According to John Keim of ESPN, Lattimore “did a lot of work on the side. CB movements, tracking the ball, cutting to defend a pass. Was about 3/4 speed when we were watching.”

This is a positive development, considering it’s the most work Lattimore has done since his arrival three weeks ago. Whether he plays on Sunday against Dallas or not, he appears to be trending in the right direction.

Now, for the rest of the injury report — it remains ugly for the Cowboys, but let’s begin with the Commanders.

Here is the Commanders’ complete injury report for Thursday:

Did not participate: CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring), DE Clelin Ferrell (knee), CB Michael Davis (NIR/personal)

Full participants: DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste (ankle), LB Jordan Magee (elbow), T Brandon Coleman (thumb), DE Dorance Armstrong (knee), TE Ben Sinnott (illness)

Here is the Cowboys’ injury report for Thursday:

Limited participants: WR Brandin Cooks (knee),  DE Marshawn Kneeland (knee), CB Jourdan Lewis (neck), FB Hunter Luepke (calf), CB Trevon Diggs (groin, knee)

Full participants: CB DaRon Bland (foot), T Chuma Edoga (toe), T Tyler Guyton (shoulder), LB Eric Kendricks (shoulder)

Commanders’ Dan Quinn insists Jayden Daniels is not injured now

Quinn did offer a reason why Washington’s offense has taken a step back recently.

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has started four games since injuring his rib area in a Week 7 win over the Carolina Panthers. Washington is 2-2 in those four games, with both losses coming in a four-day span last week.

In those four games, Daniels completed 59.5% of his passes — down from 75% through the first seven games. You can’t deny there’s been a difference, whether it’s due to better opponents or injury.

Daniels insists he’s fine, even saying the team wouldn’t let him play if he wasn’t. Head coach Dan Quinn said after Thursday’s loss that the injury was no longer affecting Daniels.

After a weekend off, Quinn met with the media on Monday and reiterated that Daniels wasn’t injured. He did give insight into why his numbers have gone down.

I want to first start off by saying clearly and honestly, Jayden is not injured right now,” Quinn said. “But we did lose valuable practice time with him and his teammates when he was injured. And that’s hard on all the guys. It’s a really, really important part of what we do. And we don’t have banked reps in here, so we’re very much looking forward to getting back onto a full week and regular practice sessions with the guys. So, over the last few weeks, we’ve had to put that together in small bits.”

Quinn’s explanation does make sense. Daniels only missed two full days of practice, but he could’ve been hindered in the following weeks.

Here’s a counterpoint to Quinn’s statement that the ribs are no longer impacting Daniels: Why are trainers working on Daniels’ ribs?

Quinn can only go by what the doctors and Daniels are saying. Of course, Daniels will say he’s fine, and the doctors see no reason why he can’t play, as rib injuries are often more about pain tolerance than what you see on an X-ray.

The Commanders hope the long weekend after 11 straight games provided them a mini-break as they head into Week 12 against Dallas.

Steelers vs Commanders injury update: Special teams might be the difference this week

The Commanders could be without kicker Austin Seibert on Sunday.

No team in the NFL does more with their special teams than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether it’s the kicking game, blocking kicks, or the return game, this group is as good as any in the NFL. They go into most games with an edge and this week against the Washington Commanders, the advantage might be even greater.

The Commanders put out their game-status report for Sunday’s game against the Steelers and they have starting kicker Austin Seibert listed as questionable with a right hip injury.

If Seibert cannot go, the Commanders would turn to veteran Zane Gonzalez. They signed him to their practice squad this week. Gonzalez is an 80 percent career kicker and hasn’t played any meaningful football since 2021. He’s definitely a step down from Seibert who is 25-for-27 on his field goal tries this season.

Report: Jaguars RB Travis Etienne Jr. ‘unlikely’ to play vs. Patriots

Report: Jaguars RB Travis Etienne Jr. ‘unlikely’ to play vs. Patriots

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. is “unlikely” to play in Week 7 when Jacksonville hosts the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson said Friday that Etienne was “progressing” in his recovery from a hamstring injury suffered last week against the Chicago Bears, suggesting his availability against New England would be a game-time decision.

The update followed Pederson calling Etienne “week-to-week” due to his injury on Monday.

Etienne has logged 230 yards and two touchdowns over 56 rushing attempts this season and added 91 yards over 16 receptions.

Jacksonville’s second first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Etienne has rushed 543 times for 2,363 yards and 18 touchdowns and caught 109 passes for 883 yards and one touchdown in his 40-game Jaguars career.

Tank Bigsby will likely start in place of Etienne at running back against the Patriots on Sunday. Bigsby has rushed for 297 yards and two touchdowns over 41 rushing attempts this season.
