Commanders RB Austin Ekeler gives concerning injury update

Austin Ekeler gives an injury update.

Austin Ekeler has been everything the Washington Commanders expected when they signed him early in free agency. Ekeler has contributed big plays to the running game, passing game and as Washington’s primary kick returner.

But this season has also been a struggle for the eight-year veteran. In a Week 3 win at Cincinnati, Ekeler suffered a concussion and missed the following week.

He returned in Week 5, but at the end of Washington’s Week 11 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Ekeler suffered another concussion. The Commanders placed Ekeler on injured reserve, meaning he would miss at least the next four games.

Ekeler has joined the “Grant and Danny” show all season long on 106.7 The Fan after Washington games. While he didn’t appear last week, Ekeler returned to the show on Tuesday to give an update.

“Definitely went through it there for a little bit, just with the concussion symptoms and trying to just get through the fogginess feeling, but definitely trending in the right direction,” Ekeler said Lou DiPietro of Audacy. “Now just still dealing with some repercussions of the hit, but trending in the right direction.”

It’s excellent news that Ekeler is trending in the right direction. However, the situation was touch and go last week in the days immediately after he suffered the concussion.

“I think it’s important to kind of diagnose the magnitude of the situation – like, I didn’t even remember how I got off the field. I remember kind of coming to, but I had some short-term memory loss, and all I remember was my wife was sitting in the room, and I was getting evaluated by our medical staff in the back room,” Ekeler said.

Ekeler then said his memory returned, and he remembered everything from that point forward.

Ekeler praised Washington’s medical staff, head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters for prioritizing his health over the team’s needs.

Part of the reason the Commanders placed Ekeler on IR is that he’s also dealing with neck pain since the concussion. Being on IR with Washington and also having a bye week allows Ekeler extra time to recover. But with head or neck injuries, there are no timetables. Ekeler confirmed he’s “week-to-week” and remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol program.

Ekeler also acknowledged the unknowns of concussions. Because he’s suffered two this season, does that make him more susceptible to a third concussion?

In their first game without Ekeler, the Commanders defeated the Tennessee Titans 42-19 to end a three-game losing streak. Washington rushed for 267 yards in the win.

Raiders send WR DJ Turner to IR, sign promising young RB to active roster

While the Raiders lose their best special teams player, DJ Turner, they make things official with former practice squad RB Sincere McCormick.

Midway through the third quarter of last Friday’s game in Arrowhead, Raiders wide receiver DJ Turner returned a kickoff 28 yards and went down hard and didn’t get back up. He was eventually helped off the field and didn’t return.

Today, Turner was placed on injured reserve. The talented special teams player will be missed for his gunner and return abilities as well as being the team’s starting slot receiver this season after the departure of Davante Adams in trade with the Jets.

To fill his sport on the roster the Raiders signed RB Sincere McCormick from the practice squad.

McCormick is a former undrafted free agent out of University of Texas San Antonio. As of two weeks ago, he hadn’t had an NFL carry. But with the injuries to Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, McCormick was called into service.

Over the past two weeks, McCormick has put up some impressive numbers. He has put up 97 yards on 17 carries. His 5.7 yards per carry is far better than any other Raiders back this season.

In his first appearance against the Broncos in week 12, he had 33 yards on five carries (6.6 ypc) and head coach Antonio Pierce said plainly that he earned more carries. So, he saw his carries jump to 12 last week against the Chiefs and still averaged 5.3 yards per carry.

Now in less than two weeks time, he goes from obscure practice squad back to the lead back with an NFL contract. It will be interesting to see what he can do the rest of the season and if that means he will be part of the Raiders plans moving forward.

49ers injury update is bad news for 2 star running backs

Both of the 49ers top two running backs suffered injuries against the Bills on Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers will be without their top two running backs for the remainder of the regular season after the pair of rushers suffered injuries on Sunday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

When speaking with members of the media on Monday in a conference call, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Christian McCaffrey suffered a PCL injury against the Bills. Shanahan said McCaffrey’s injury won’t require surgery, but his recovery time will be around six weeks. Shanahan said the 49ers will be adding McCaffrey to the injured reserve.

Via @AdamSchefter on Twitter:

McCaffrey had a strong start to the game against the Bills, rushing for 53 yards on seven carries before exiting the game with a knee injury. McCaffrey missed the first eight weeks of the season with an achilles injury. In four games, McCaffrey has rushed for 202 yards on 50 carries.

Along with McCaffrey, fellow running back Jordan Mason will also be added to the injured reserve. Shanahan revealed Mason suffered a high ankle sprain that will require the breakout back to go on the injured reserve.

Mason entered the starting lineup at the start of the season while McCaffrey dealt with an Achilles injury. Mason took over the 49ers backfield on fire, rushing for 789 yards and three touchdowns during the 2024 campaign.

With both McCaffrey and Mason sidelined, rookie rusher Isaac Guerendo will likely take over the 49ers backfield. The fourth-round pick out of Louisville has rushed for 246 yards on 42 carries with two touchdowns, including a 15-yard rushing touchdown against the Bills.

The Chicago Bears will travel to Santa Clara for a contest against the 49ers on Sunday.

Chiefs WR Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown reportedly could return for the regular-season finale

Kansas City #Chiefs WR Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown reportedly could return for the regular-season finale | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially playoff-bound after their Week 13 victory and could be getting even better news for quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the next few weeks.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Chiefs wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown could potentially return to the field for the season’s final weeks. The return is contingent on Brown meeting with his surgeon in Week 15 for final clearance on the status of his shoulder. He can return to the lineup before the Chiefs begin the postseason if he passes the tests.

The injury occurred on the veteran receiver’s lone drive in the first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chiefs V.P. of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder revealed the following month that Brown’s injury didn’t heal correctly, requiring surgery after working with several specialists. Brown underwent successful surgery for his injured SC joint in September and was initially expected to miss the 2024 regular season.

The hopeful addition of Brown adds another weapon for Mahomes and gives fans the primary target they had been waiting for since his signing last offseason.

Benches clear in Jaguars vs. Texans after big hit on Trevor Lawrence

Benches clear in Jaguars vs. Texans after big hit on Trevor Lawrence

The Jaguars and Texans’ benches cleared after Houston linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair laid a huge hit on Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence as he slid to conclude a six-yard run in the second quarter, leading to an extended skirmish between the teams.

Lawrence was ruled out of the game with a concussion by the Jaguars just before halftime.

Jacksonville tight end Evan Engram flew in to defend Lawrence and take on Al-Shaair after the tackle, resulting in a mass of Jaguars and Texans fighting and arguing while Lawrence was attended to by medical staff. He was eventually carted off the field.

Al-Shaair, Engram and Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones received personal foul penalties for their conduct, which offset. Al-Shaair and Jones were ejected from the game.

Al-Shaair continued to mouth off at Jaguars players, including left guard Brandon Scherff and wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., as he was escorted off the field, prolonging the scuffle as players from both teams swarmed to diffuse the situation.

Sunday marked Lawrence’s return to play after missing Jacksonville’s last two games with an AC joint sprain in his left, non-throwing shoulder.

Mac Jones took over at quarterback for the Jaguars with Lawrence ruled out.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated.

Commanders make the right choice with Austin Ekeler

The Commanders placed Austin Ekeler on IR, which was the right move.

The Washington Commanders placed running back Austin Ekeler on injured reserve Saturday. The move means that Ekeler will miss at least the next four games, making him eligible to return for the Week 18 regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.

Ekeler suffered a concussion at the end of last week’s loss to Dallas. It was his second concussion of the season, as he suffered one back in Week 3 and missed the following game.

Washington did the right thing, sidelining Ekeler for at least the next five weeks. Remember, the Commanders have a Week 14 bye.

Since Ekeler entered the NFL back in 2017, he has suffered four documented concussions. That doesn’t take into account any concussions he may have had before his NFL career. No concussion is more severe than another. Each time you suffer a concussion, it’s a head injury and should be treated with extreme caution.

So, while the Commanders are in a playoff race and Ekeler is one of their best players, they do right by the player, something that wasn’t always the case before new owner Josh Harris, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn arrived.

Depending on how Ekeler recovers, he may or may not play again this season.

In the meantime, Washington will try to get it done on offense with running backs Brian Robinson Jr., Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez. Quarterback Jayden Daniels will also be involved in Washington’s running game.

There are usually very few updates on players in the NFL’s concussion protocol, meaning it could be a while before there is a definitive update on Ekeler.

Commanders RB Brian Robinson injury news ahead of Week 13

How healthy is Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. vs. Titans?

The Washington Commanders placed running back Austin Ekeler on injured reserve Saturday. That means Ekeler will miss at least the next four games and is eligible to return in Week 17. So, what about fellow Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr?

Robinson has battled injuries all season. In his second game back against the Cowboys last week, he exited after his first carry. Washington’s leading rusher missed three games earlier this season with knee and hamstring injuries. While those injuries appear behind him, he added a new one against the Cowboys.

Robinson twisted his ankle under the weight of a Dallas player. It didn’t look good, but somehow, Robinson quickly returned. However, after a few more carries, he exited again, this time for good.

Robinson was fortunate the injury isn’t more severe, but it did have him limited in practice last week. Fortunately, though, Robinson was removed from the injury report after participating fully in Friday’s practice.

While Robinson will play, how much can Washington count on him? Jeremy McNichols has been excellent in relief this season. Chris Rogriguez Jr. is also back after being released and re-signed. Rodriguez was critical in the Commanders’ Week 9 win over the Giants.

Tennessee has one of the NFL’s best defenses. Running against the Titans will be difficult. Obviously, a healthy Robinson gives Washington the best chance.

Commanders’ injury news: Latest on Brian Robinson Jr, Austin Ekeler, Marshon Lattimore

Who is in for the Commanders on Sunday? Who is out? The final injury report for Week 13.

When the Washington Commanders face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, one of their top running backs will be in action. Washington released its final injury report on Friday, and Brian Robinson Jr. will play.

Unfortunately, Austin Ekeler, who suffered a concussion late in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, is out. That’s not surprising. It is Ekeler’s second concussion of the season, and he remains in concussion protocol. Also, right tackle Andrew Wyler will miss Sunday’s game. Like Ekeler, he is also in the NFL’s concussion protocol program.

Wylie was limited in practice this week, so there was some hope he could play. Trent Scott will likely start in his place.

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore was listed as doubtful for Sunday. Lattimore made his practice debut on Wednesday but was limited all three days. Head coach Dan Quinn discussed Lattimore’s progress on Friday.

We’re pumped that he’s certainly closer, but we’re going to huddle up today and end of tomorrow to see where exactly we stand,” Quinn said. “We got a pretty strong process to go through and the player is a part of that too. So, we’re going to make all decisions, protect the team first, but man, is it good to have him back out there and get going.”

It still appears unlikely that Lattimore plays, but it certainly appears he’s headed toward making his Washington debut in Week 15 after Washington’s bye against his old team, the Saints, in New Orleans.

Here is Tennessee’s final injury report for Week 13.

Out: OT Leroy Watson IV (back), CB Chidobe Awuzie (groin)

Doubtful: None

Questionable: RB Tyjae Spears (concussion)

Is Isiah Pacheco playing today? Injury updates for Chiefs RB

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco has been sidelined since he sustained a leg injury in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Pacheco was activated from Kansas City’s injured reserve list this week, but will he be available for the Chiefs’ Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders?

Isiah Pacheco injury update

Pacheco has been dealing with a broken fibula but returned to full participation in Kansas City’s practices this week.

He was officially activated from the Chiefs’ injured reserve list on Thanksgiving and is expected to make his return to the field against Las Vegas on Black Friday.

How long will Isiah Pacheco be out?

Though he will be back in action against the Raiders, it is unclear if Pacheco will remain on Kansas City’s injury report moving forward.

Chiefs RB depth chart

Behind Pacheco, Kansas City has Kareem Hunt, Carson Steele, Samaje Perine, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire on its depth chart.

Raiders send 2 starters to injured reserve, add 4 to active roster Week 13 vs Chiefs

Raiders made several moves including sending Gardner Minshew and Jakorian Bennett to IR and adding four others to face the Chiefs Week 13.

Early Thanksgiving Day, the Raiders took care of quite a bit of business. First they sent starting quarterback Gardner Minshew along with starting cornerback Jakorian Bennett to injured reserve.

Minshew broke his collarbone late in the team loss to the Denver Broncos last week. His season is done.

Bennett suffered a shoulder injury on the second play of the team’s game in Miami in week 11 and missed the Broncos game last week. He will be out at least the next four weeks which means should he return this season, he would be eligible to play the final two games of the season.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders officially activated QB Aidan O’Connell from injured reserve and signed practice squad WR Terrace Marshall to the active roster.

O’Connell will start vs the Chiefs on Friday, He had been out the past four games with an injured thumb. While Marshall has been on the team’s practice squad since October 22, appearing in one game this season so far.

Additionally, the Raiders elevated CB Kyu Blu Kelly and RB Sincere McCormick from the practice squad. McCormick in particular played well enough last week against the Broncos to earn more snaps this week.
