Well that’s not great. The New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills updated the Week 12 injury report after practicing on Tuesday — both teams released estimated participation statuses on Monday, having opted to hold low-intensity walkthroughs after playing on Sunday with a quick turnaround before their Thursday night meeting.

So the details from this injury report actually reflect what the team has seen in practice, and it carries little good news for the Saints. Both of their top two running backs were absent with Alvin Kamara managing a knee injury and Mark Ingram dealing with a knee issue; Ingram had been a limited participant on Monday’s estimated report, but he wasn’t able to go once practice began on Tuesday.

That doesn’t bode well for his availability on Thanksgiving. Other non-participants included tight end Adam Trautman (knee) and backup left tackle Landon Young (foot), who are both expected to miss extensive time on injured reserve. Defensive linemen Marcus Davenport (shoulder) and Tanoh Kpassagnon (ankle) were also sidelined, which would be two very difficult losses for a unit that already hasn’t played well this season. At least Ty Montgomery (hand) was upgraded to full participation.

The Saints and Bills will get one more day of practice in before kickoff on Thursday night. Hopefully some of these players battling injuries are able to return and suit up in prime-time. Here’s what you need to know from Tuesday’s report.

Raiders, Cowboys injury report: WR CeeDee Lamb still missing practice in concussion protocol

Raiders, Cowboys injury report: WR CeeDee Lamb still missing practice in concussion protocol

A short week is a tough time to get a concussion. It’s rarely enough time for a player to get through the league’s concussion protocol and play. That’s what Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb is going through now.

Lamb left the Cowboys’ game against the Chiefs last Sunday; a game they went on to lose.

Also missing for the Cowboys was safety Donovan Wilson (shoulder/chest).

Missing for the Raiders was LB Nick Kwiatkoski (ankle) and CB Keisean Nixon (ankle). G John Simpson (ribs) was limited in his return to practice. Also limited was RB Jalen Richard.

Simpson left last Sunday’s game against the Bengals and didn’t return. He was replaced at left guard by Jordan Simmons. Richard missed the game altogether and was replaced in the lineup for Peyton Barber.

Stephen Jones: Cowboys ‘feel really good’ about getting Tyron Smith back vs Raiders

The left tackle was a Sunday scratch versus Kansas City, with the Cowboys planning to bring him back Thanksgiving Day against the Raiders. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The news looked promising for Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith to suit up and start against Kansas City on Sunday… right up until it didn’t. After being limited in practice during the week and participating in the team’s Friday mock game, head coach Mike McCarthy was “hopeful” that the seven-time Pro Bowler would have a solid practice session on Saturday and be declared fit for play Sunday.

But in the early-morning hours on gameday, reports surfaced that Smith would be inactive for a third straight game thanks to a bone spur issue in his ankle.

Start the news cycle over again. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones announced Monday on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan that, “we feel really good about him playing this week.”

Although the team did not practice Monday, the Cowboys issued an injury report, estimating players’ statuses as if they had. Smith was listed as “limited.”

Of the late decision to sit Smith in Week 11, Jones said, “It’s just, you know, the full body of work there. [Cowboys associate athletic trainer/director of rehabilitation] Britt Brown, who I think is one of the best in the business at getting these guys ready to play, and Tyron, and working through it with him, we just didn’t feel like he was quite ready to go yet and didn’t want to have one of those things where we got him out there and he had to start over again.”

Jones also acknowledged that the Cowboys’ short week before hosting Las Vegas on Thursday played into the decision to not push Smith’s ankle too far, with the club then heading into a span of three games in 12 days. Four divisional games and a tilt against Arizona that could have postseason-bye implications follow that to close out the regular schedule.

“I think it’s the full body of work,” Jones reiterated. “You put everything into the equation and you make the decision. But I think the bigger decision right there was how he felt leading up to the game. We really felt like we needed to get him some practice in. He got a little bit in, but not a lot. He was still feeling it to some degree, and you have to take note of that. Certainly, we’ve got to do everything we think is in our best interest for the entirety of the season, and I don’t think this is anything that we’re going to have to manage, not unlike Dak [Prescott]. Same as Dak, we just feel like once he’s ready to roll, he’ll be ready to go. We feel like he’s ready, and barring some unforeseen setback this week, he should be ready to play this Thursday.”

Terence Steele subbed in again for Smith on Sunday; Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was sacked by the Chiefs five times. The team all but abandoned the run game, with rushers Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard combining for just 82 yards on 16 carries.

Saints and Bills release estimated injury report after Monday walkthroughs

Saints and Bills release estimated injury report after Monday walkthroughs

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”IzSXSDQJSB-1633811-7498″]

Asking NFL teams to play a game on Sunday and then go again the following Thursday is tough, so it makes sense that neither the New Orleans Saints nor the Buffalo Bills held real practice sessions on Monday. Both squads instead had low-intensity walkthrough practices, so the training staff had to estimate participation for those managing injuries. We’ll know a lot more once they actually get to work on Tuesday.

Still, here is what we learned from Monday’s first injury report for Week 12:

Injury Report: Verone McKinley good to go vs. Oregon State; Ryan Walk remains out

Mario Cristobal said that Verone McKinley III would be ready to play this weekend against Oregon State, while some other players will remain out.

Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal gave an injury update to the media members on Monday afternoon, noting that starting safety Verone McKinley would be good to go for this coming game against Oregon State.

Cristobal also noted that OL Ryan Walk is still going to be out for a couple of weeks. Both safety Steve Stephens and Keyone Ware-Hudson are expected to miss this weeks’ game against the Beavers as well.

Cristobal also mentioned that TE/DE DJ Johnson is day-to-day at the moment.

The coming game will be among the biggest of the season for the Ducks, who need a win to clinch the Pac-12 North and make it back to the conference championship game. This is after a week where they lost to Utah, and had several players go down, with WRs Johnny Johnson III and Jaylon Redd be lost for the rest of the season.

Wisconsin’s Minnesota-week depth chart sees new No. 1 punt and kick returners

Wisconsin’s Minnesota-week depth chart sees new No. 1 punt and kick returners

The fireworks came early during Wisconsin’s 35-28 victory over Nebraska Saturday, as kick returner Stephan Bracey returned after tearing his quad a year ago and took the opening kickoff home for a touchdown.

Wisconsin had rotated kick returners after wide receiver Devin Chandler entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago. Bracey’s emergence gives the team a clear answer at the position—and a special teams threat the team hasn’t had since Aron Cruickshank returned kicks in 2019.

Well, Bracey is unsurprisingly now listed as the No. 1 kick returner on Wisconsin’s depth chart. Along with that change, cornerback Dean Engram is now the team’s No. 1 punt returner.

Two ruled out, four listed as questionable for Wisconsin’s contest at Minnesota

Two ruled out, four listed as questionable for Wisconsin’s contest at Minnesota

Wisconsin released its status report for Saturday’s battle with Minnesota for Paul Bunyan’s Axe earlier today.

The report sees Wisconsin mostly healthy at key positions heading into the contest, which is good news after the team battled through cluster injuries at both tight end and running back.

Also of note: star inside linebacker Leo Chenal left Saturday’s contest but returned after missing only a series. He is not listed on the team’s injury report.

Jaguars injury roundup after loss to San Francisco

The Jags had to deal with a number of injuries in Sunday’s 30-10 loss to the 49ers.

Jacksonville’s 30-10 loss to San Francisco on Sunday added insult to injury — in the most literal sense. The team was facing a barrage of injuries on both sides of the ball that made a comeback against the 49ers an untenable prospect.

The secondary was the most impacted. The unit was already playing shorthanded with the loss of Rayshawn Jenkins, who was ejected, and it then lost both of its starting corners in Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell. Griffin was ruled out with a concussion, while Campbell was deemed questionable to return with a shoulder injury, per the Jaguars PR Twitter account, though he didn’t come back in.

With the pair out, the Jags turned to Nevin Lawson and Chris Claybrooks, who held their own, all things considered, but with Tre Herndon already inactive, Jacksonville’s depth in the defensive backfield was pushed to the limit. With Jenkins out, Daniel Thomas and rookie Andre Cisco saw safety reps, but Cisco also exited near the end of the game with a groin injury.

Those weren’t the only injury issues, though. The team suffered a pair of costly offensive injuries as well, as offensive tackle Cam Robinson was listed as questionable to return with a knee injury, while receiver Jamal Agnew carried the same designation after leaving with a hip injury. Neither returned, with rookie Walker Little, who started in Robinson’s place against Buffalo, entering at left tackle. Meanwhile, Laquon Treadwell and Tavon Austin picked up the slack at receiver, notching one catch apiece.

John Brown, who was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad before the game, was targeted once but didn’t make a catch.

This is already a Jags team with a lot of holes, and it doesn’t take many injuries for certain positions to be in dire straits. The Jags will hope that these injuries, which all carried “questionable” designations (except Griffin, who now enters concussion protocol), will not prove to affect the team in the weeks to come.
