Season series: Pacers lead 1-0

The Pelicans lost at the Pacers 123-114 Wednesday, the last game for both teams. New Orleans failed to cover as a 4-point underdog and has lost 3 of its last 4, going 1-3 against the spread (ATS) over that span. The Pelicans are 32-27-1 ATS on the season.

The Pacers have won 4 of their last 5 games and went 3-2 ATS in that stretch. They are 32-25-3 ATS on the season and 3-3 ATS in their last 6 on the road. Indiana is led by G Tyrese Haliburton, who is averaging 21.4 points and 11.6 assists per game.

Pacers at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 120, Pacers 116

Moneyline

PASS.

The Pelicans (-210) have not been playing well enough, losing to the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat in their last 2 at home, to back here. The Pacers might be worth a moneyline play, but the spread is the preferred route.

Against the spread

LEAN PACERS +5 (-108).

Simply put, over the past 2 weeks, the Pelicans have struggled at home. They have gone 1-3 ATS with ATS losses to the Bulls as 5-point favorites and the Washington Wizards as 14.5-point favorites. New Orleans has the scoring but has struggled defensively, allowing at least 114 in 2 of its last 3.

The Pacers are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 games and have lengthy guards like Haliburton that should be able to give New Orleans problems. With F Pascal Siakam‘s scoring as well, the Pacers should be able to cover.

Back PACERS +5 (-108).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 238.5 (-110).

If there’s1 thing both teams can agree on, it is that the Under has been popular as of late. The Pacers are 2-6 O/U in their last 8 games, allowing 115 or fewer in 5 of their last 7.

The Pelicans have gone Under in 4 straight and in 6 of their last 8 as well. New Orelans is 3-5 O/U in its last 8 games with a total of 230 or higher. This is just too high to back, so take UNDER 238.5 (-110).

Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Indiana Pacers (17-16) visit the Smoothie King Center Monday to face the New Orleans Pelicans (20-12). Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Pacers vs. Pelicans odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Pacers traveled to Miami on Friday and won 111-108 as  5.5-point underdogs, thanks for the most part to G Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield who combined shot 17-of-27 from 3. Indiana’s defense also kept Miami to 43.2% from the floor.

After a 4 game losing streak the Pelicans have won their last 2, albeit against the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. New Orleans is among  the best teams in the Western Conference and in striking distance of the No. 1 seed.

Pacers at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 123, Pacers 112

Moneyline

The Pacers, if you haven’t been following, are terrible in the 1st quarter. They rank 29th in 1st-quarter points scored and 28th in 1st-quarter points allowed. The Pelicans are 1 of the worst teams these Pacers could face as New Orleans ranks 2nd in 1st-quarter points scored, and 9th in 1st-quarter points allowed.

The Pacers are used to “catch-up mode” and are above .500% because they are best in the NBA in the 2nd quarter with 31.1 points. However, the Pelicans have the 4th-best defense in quarter 2.

The line is too juicy right now (although Pelican’s ML has dropped from -270 to -240). If the line continues to drop you may see a number you want to jump on. Until then I would PASS.

Against the spread

The Pacers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games after a ATS win. New Orleans have covered in 4 of their last 5 home games when facing a team with a losing road record. And on top of that the Pelicans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games.

With F Zion Williamson returning Indiana looks outmatched.

LEAN PELICANS -6.5 (-105).

Over/Under

When facing a team .600% or better, the Pacers have gone Over 9 of their last 12 games. And New Orleans really trends toward the Over. They are 5-0 in their last 5 and 4-0 in their last 4 at home.

LEAN OVER 233.5 (-105).

Pacers at Pelicans odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 109, Pacers 103

Money line

The Pelicans have won three straight games at home, including against the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.

The Pacers picked up wins in two of their first four games on the road trip but had an eight-game road losing skid before that.

With the Pacers missing as many as four of their top five scorers on the team, take PELICANS (-155).

Against the spread

The Pacers have covered the spread in three straight games. They are 11-12 ATS on the road.

The Pelicans are 21-24 ATS overall but 13-8 ATS at home. They have covered the spread in their last nine victories.

With the spread so low, it doesn’t make sense to think the Pelicans will win but not cover.

Take the PELICANS -3.5 (-107).

Over/Under

The last four games for the Pelicans have stayed Under the projected total, as have six of their last seven.

The Pacers are 6-8 O/U in their last 14 games.

Despite not being great defensively neither team is great enough offensively to take advantage of that.

Take UNDER 214.5 (-108).

Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Indiana Pacers (4-2) are in the Big Easy Monday to play the New Orleans Pelicans (4-2) at Smoothie King Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pacers-Pelicans NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions

The Pacers were upset 106-102 as 9.5-point home favorites by the New York Knicks Saturday. Indiana had a hard time getting easy buckets shooting 40.5% from the field. The Pacers were outscored 56-26 in the paint, and were out-rebounded 60-37.

New Orleans gritted its way past the Toronto Raptors at home. The Pelicans 120-116, as 1-point dogs Saturday. They outrebounded the Raptors 67-46 and shot 20 more free throws. Their leading scorer this season, SF Brandon Ingram, had a game-high 31 points on 8-for-17 field-goal shooting and 11-for-14 from the foul line.

The Pelicans won and covered in both meetings last year: 124-117 as 5-point underdogs in Indiana and 120-98 at home as 1.5-point home favorites.

Pacers at Pelicans: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pacers 115, Pelicans 108

Money line (ML)

This is a perfect spot to sell-high with the Pelicans and buy-low with the Pacers. The Pelicans’ rebounding edge for the season is scary but aside from their two wins over a Raptors team—whose legitimacy as an Eastern Conference contender is on stand-by—New Orleans has been rolled by the other good teams it played.

Indiana has a higher net rating and a positive net in effective field-goal percentage (.561 offensive eFG% vs. .534 defensive eFG%) whereas New Orleans has a negative net eFG%.

GIMME PACERS (+105) for 1.5 units.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE SPREAD. I’ll forgo the measly 1.5 points of Indiana insurance and use my Pacers-Pelicans budget on the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

If you haven’t been paying attention, this Indiana team has mutated its style under first-year head coach Nate Bjorkgren. The Pacers are sixth in offensive rating this season (19th in 2019-20) and are up from being dead-last in 3-point rate last season to a modest 18th under Bjorkgren.

Also, I don’t put much stock into New Orleans’ third-ranked defensive rating because three of its opponents (Raptors, Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder) are among the least efficient offenses in the NBA.

I’ll TAKE OVER 216.5 (-115) for 1 unit.
