Drake helped the WNBA announce Toronto’s expansion team and fans trolled him with Kendrick lyrics

It might still be a bit too soon for Drake to make an appearance after his beef with Kendrick Lamar

It was a banner day for Toronto basketball on Thursday as the WNBA officially announced the city would receive the league’s first expansion team north of the border and all the big stars came out to celebrate.

Scottie Barnes made an appearance at the announcement. So did Kyle Lowry — who hasn’t even played for the Raptors since 2021, but remains beloved by Toronto.

Drake was also there, and the second the internet found out, that kind of derailed any other talking point. After all, what is anyone supposed to do upon seeing him except snicker at how badly he lost a rap beef with Kendrick Lamar?

For that matter, what is anyone at the announcement supposed to say to Drake right now? Imagine what making small talk with him must be like. It can’t be anything less than awkward. Granted, it would be notable if Drake weren’t at a foundational pro basketball event in his hometown, but it doesn’t seem like his cooldown period has been long enough after the beef.

WNBA fans certainly weren’t ready to let it go.
