Cardinals adding former Patriots, Browns OL Hjalte Froholdt

The Cardinals add offensive line depth and maybe their starter at center.

The Arizona Cardinals have added an interior lineman in free agency, albeit a player you likely have not heard of.

The team announced Wednesday it agreed to terms with offensive lineman Hjalte Froholdt, formerly of the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns, on a two-year contract.

Froholdt is listed at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds. He was drafted out of Arkansas by the Patriots in the fourth round in 2019, the last year Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort was director of college scouting.

He spent two years with the Patriots before he was signed by the Texans and then the Browns signed him off their practice squad and spent two years with them.

In 2022, he played in all 17 games, starting six. He started four games at center and two at right guard. Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing was quarterbacks coach for the Browns last season.

Froholdt will, at minimum, be interior offensive line depth and perhaps is a player the team projects as a starter this coming season.

Browns Injury Report: 10 listed on Wednesday’s report with Ravens three days away

The Browns have a lengthy injury list.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to get back in the win column after losing to the Cincinnati Bengals. On a short week, the Browns are set to host another AFC North foe as the Baltimore Ravens are coming to town on Saturday. The Browns, however, are dealing with a pretty long injury list as they look to retake the field in three days.

However, the good news for the Browns is that quarterback Lamar Jackson has not practiced yet this week either. Should the Browns get Tyler Huntley under center, their already favored odds could continue to increase.

Browns Injury Report: Hjalte Froholdt misses second practice as he prepares to start

The Browns had quite a few return to practice but are missing Hjalte Froholdt, who is expected to start for the injured Ethan Pocic

The Cleveland Browns had quite a few players return to practice today. The majority who missed yesterday’s practice sat out with a day of rest, but safety D’Anthony Bell returned after spending time in the concussion protocol, and tight end David Njoku also returned as he nurses his high ankle sprain. They did, however, miss Hjalte Froholdt from practice for a second straight day with an illness, who is expected to start at center after Ethan Pocic hit Injured Reserve.

Cornerback Greg Newsome is still working through the concussion protocol, guard Wyatt Teller sat out as he nurses his injured calf. Right tackle Jack Conklin also sat out, but he typically takes a day of rest on Thursdays.

Browns missing laundry list of players from Wednesday’s practice

The list of players missing from practice today is not short.

As the Cleveland Browns try to get back on the right track this weekend at FirstEnergy Stadium, they were missing a plethora of players from Wednesday’s practice. While defensive ends Jadaveon Clowney and Myles Garrett, as well as wide receiver Amari Cooper and right guard Joel Bitonio all sat out with a scheduled rest day, they were also missing five other players.

Cornerback Greg Newsome and safety D’Anthony Bell are still working through the concussion protocol, now starting center Hjalte Froholdt and safety Ronnie Harrison were out with an illness, and tight end David Njoku is still nursing his ankle. Wyatt Teller, Jedrick Wills, and Perrion Winfrey were all limited as well.

Browns Injury Update: Ethan Pocic out ‘weeks’ as Hjalte Froholdt to remain starter at center

The Browns will be without their breakout center Ethan Pocic for “weeks.” Hjalte Froholdt will continue to get starting reps in his place.

After leaving the game on the opening drive in the loss to the Buffalo Bills, starting center Ethan Pocic is now set to miss “weeks” according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. After filling in for Pocic yesterday, backup interior offensive lineman Hjalte Froholdt will continue to start in his absence.

Playing out a one-year deal, and doing so at such a high level, Pocic has been a shocking breakout performer for the Browns this season. Potentially looking a massive pay increase in the face this offseason, Pocic looks to return to full health and get back on the field as soon as possible.

Injury reports are already filed again, Hall of Fame quarterbacks are dragging this defense through the mud, and there has even been some light movement on the roster. On top of that, it covered some Browns players favored highly by analytical wings and even broke down some all-22.

Browns Injury Update: Hjalte Froholdt likely to start as Wyatt Teller remains ‘doubtful’

After stepping in for Wyatt Teller in the first quarter against the Patriots, Hjalte Frojoldt will likely start against the Ravens

Starting right guard Wyatt Teller is ‘doubtful’ to play against the Baltimore Ravens, per head coach Kevin Stefanski. After leaving the game in the first quarter against the New England Patriots, Teller was seen in a walking boot today on his left calf.

After he left the game, former fourth round pick Hjalte Froholdt stepped in at right guard and did so in a valiant manner. Froholdt graded out well according to PFF, and it showed on the all-22 as well.

The depth in the offensive line room continues to be a massive selling point of this Cleveland team and of position coach Bill Callahan. With a next-man-up mentality, the Browns will need Froholdt to step in the way that James Hudson and Ethan Pocic already have this season.

After a second look using all-22, what stood out the most in this game between the Browns and Patriots?

There is no other way to state it other than the Cleveland Browns got outclassed by the New England Patriots on Sunday. It was ugly on broadcast view, and it was ugly when viewing the coach’s film as well.
