Twitter, BlueSky react to comical Cowboys-Texans Q1 sequence

A look at the insane opening quarter of the Cowboys-Texans games that had a little bit of everything except for quality play from Dallas. | From @KDDrummondNFL

People watch sports to be entertained and well, this has been entertaining. Not in the “great displays of physical skill” way, nor in the “masterminds being unbelievably creative” way either. No, this is a “oh look, the train is headed right for them” entertainment, and the them is the Dallas Cowboys.

In their Week 11 game against in-state rival Houston, the Cowboys allowed the Texans to score on their opening play of the game, only an illegible man downfield called back Nico Collins’ 77-yard screen score. No worries, RB Joe Mixon scored a few plays later on a 45-yard touchdown.

But that was only the beginning of the silliness. Dallas, stuffed in their own territory, tried a fake punt pass that was completed… 5 yards short of the yard marker. They got a reprieve as Houston looked to pour it on on their own fourth down when CJ Stroud threw an interception. Positives? Of course not, because Cooper Rush sent the ball right back to Houston.

that fake punt attempt was the epitome of desperation. we’ve known the cowboys are a draft positioning team for a good bit, but now they’re also making decisions like one.

Packers 20, Bears 19: Highlights from Week 11 win

Highlights from the Packers’ 20-19 win over the Bears in Week 11 of the 2024 season.

The Green Bay Packers escaped Soldier Field with a dramatic 20-19 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday after Jordan Love scored a go-ahead touchdown and Karl Brooks blocked a field goal attempt as time expired.

The victory extended the Packers’ win streak over the Bears to 11 games, a new record in the rivalry.

The Packers took a 7-0 lead on a free-play touchdown pass from Love to Jayden Reed on the opening possession, but the Bears scored 13 straight points to take a 13-7 lead in the third quarter. Josh Jacobs’ 7-yard touchdown run re-took the lead for the Packers, but the Bears immediately responded with a 39-yard touchdown run from D’Andre Swift.

It took a wild fourth quarter to determine a winner in the latest showdown of the NFL’s longest running rivalry.

Watch the highlights from Sunday’s unbelievable fight at Soldier Field:

WATCH: Marquez Valdes-Scantling scores on the Saints’ longest play of the year

Marquez Valdes-Scantling scored on the Saints’ longest play of the year, finding the end zone for the third time in three games:

Man…

Marquez Valdes-Scantling surprises us yet again for a second straight week with a huge 71-yard touchdown on a catch-and-run from Carr. It was the longest gain of the New Orleans Saints’ season after Rashid Shaheed had a 70-yard pickup earlier this year.

On third-and-one at their own 29, Carr play faked to Kamara who came in jet motion behind him. As Carr rolled opposite, he found MVS on an over route in the middle of the field, allowing him to out run all defenders on Cleveland’s defense.

This touchdown marks Valdes-Scantling’s third touchdown as a Saint and his third in two games. The team has been waiting for someone to step up with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed unavailable and MVS has been a very pleasant addition in the middle of the year.

Taysom Hill climbs higher among Saints’ all-time leading scorers

Taysom Hill added to his legacy in Sunday’s contest against the Browns, breaking his tie with Pierre Thomas in the Saints’ all-time record books:

Taysom Hill is rungs higher on the list of all-time leading scorers with his 10-yard rushing touchdown against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Hill has now broken his tie with Pierre Thomas for touchdowns scored in Saints history. He now sits at ninth overall with 42 touchdowns combined between his efforts as a runner, receiver and returner, a perfect illustration of just how much of a Swiss army knife he truly is. Eric Martin is next ahead of him with 48 touchdowns scored.

Several teams have tried to replicate Hill over the years and have failed to this point, and it’s easy to get the sense there may never be another quite like him. The Saints get to reap the fortune of that at the rest of the league’s expense.

Sunday’s touchdown run marked the 13th rushing touchdown in his career.

Hill came into the game with 10 receptions on 14 targets for 100 yards, also totaling 130 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.

How he continues to add to his legacy both in this game and down the rest of the schedule will be something to watch.

The Saints lead the Browns, 7-6 at the top of the second quarter.

Taysom Hill dominates the Saints’ opening drive vs. Browns

The Saints opened up Week 11 with the full Taysom Hill experience, including a physical touchdown run on their first drive:

The New Orleans Saints first drive of the game was the true Taysom Hill experience and it was capped off by a rushing touchdown by Hill.

The tight end has always been a Swiss Army Knife. It wasn’t until recently that he got a true position instead of just being a football player. He runs, catches and throws the football. He did all three on the opening drive.

To make things more impressive, it was on three consecutive drives. Klint Kubiak dialed up a reverse pass with Hill throwing to Kevin Austin. The next play, Derek Carr threw the ball to Hill. That was the second target of the game for Hill but his first catch.

To cap off the drive, Hill took a direct snap in for a touchdown. It was a six play drive. Hill had three touches and an additional target.

This touchdown breaks Hill’s tie with Saints legend Pierre Thomas for ninth most total touchdowns in Saints history. Hill is now six touchdowns away from Eric Martin at eighth place.

Tyrann Mathieu and Drew Brees probably wouldn’t agree on his favorite INT

Tyrann Mathieu and Drew Brees probably wouldn’t agree on his favorite INT. Mathieu’s takeaway in his 2013 homecoming stands the test of time:

It’s no secret that Tyrann Mathieu is a special talent. The New Orleans Saints safety returned home to close out his illustrious NFL career, and while Mathieu’s 2024 season hast had more low moments than he’s comfortable with, the highlights stand up with the best plays throughout his career.

He’s still making history. Mathieu is tied with his old college teammate Patrick Peterson for the most interceptions among all active NFL players (36). So which one was his favorite?

“I hate to say it but it’d have to be my rookie season, playing against Drew Brees in the Superdome,” Mathieu grinned. “And we got beat bad that dayΒ  but I had a good game. And I got to walk l away with one of the most prized possessions of anybody’s life, and that’s a Drew Brees football. So I always remember that one.”

Mathieu played the Saints just three games into his pro career back in 2013, and while his Arizona Cardinals fell 31-7, he did finish the day with 10 tackles (9 solo), on top of that interception. That was a season-high for his rookie year, and clearly a memorable game in his NFL story.

WATCH: Alvin Kamara breaks the all-time Saints rushing yards record

WATCH: New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara breaks the all-time franchise record for rushing yards

The New Orleans Saints have a new franchise leader in all-time rushing yards, and it is Alvin Kamara. Kamara came into the Week 10 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons only 12 yards away from taking the record away from his former teammate Mark Ingram, and on the first two rushes of the game was able to accrue over that amount to take it for himself.

Kamara has previously set the franchise record for rushing touchdowns and attempts, and is nearing the top five in receiving yards for the Saints where he is only 205 yards behind Jimmy Graham for sixth place. Now he accrues one more record for his long-list of achievements, and will continue to build the gap in the coming years.

Highlights from Wisconsin basketball’s 79-67 win over Montana State

Wisconsin basketball added a tally to the win column on Thursday night with a 79-67 triumph over Montana State.

The Badgers’ performance was far more complete than the one from their opening victory over Holy Cross. The team shot well from every level, highlighted by a 50% (11-of-22) mark from three-point range and 95% (20-of-21) from the free-throw line. Unlike in the opener, the Badgers mostly controlled the game throughout.

Senior guard Max Klesmit led the effort with a career-high 26 points on 7-of-15 shooting and 6-of-11 from three. Starting guards John Blackwell and John Tonje each added 13 points of their own, while sixth-man Kamari McGee had another big performance with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench.

The Badgers improve to 2-0 with the victory over the Bobcats. The performance and result are important as the team gels, and as Greg Gard works to find an effective rotation with the program’s cast of new faces.
