Jaguars allow 5 players’ practice squad contracts to expire

Five players who were on the Jaguars’ roster in 2023 became free agents Monday.

Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars secured the rights to 11 players from their practice squad by signing them to reserve/future contracts. On Monday, five players who finished the 2023 season with the team were allowed to become free agents.

The following players are no longer on the Jaguars roster, per the NFL’s transaction wire:

  • RB Snoop Conner
  • WR Jacob Harris
  • DT Henry Mondeaux
  • C James Murray
  • QB E.J. Perry

Conner is the only player on the list who was drafted by the Jaguars. The 2022 fifth-round pick appeared in eight games as a rookie, and had 12 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. Conner spent the entire 2023 season on the practice squad.

Harris appeared in two games as a standard elevation from the practice squad, but was never targeted as a receiver. The majority of his snaps came on special teams, although that included a missed tackle on kickoff coverage that helped spring the Houston Texans’ Andrew Beck for a 90-yard touchdown.

Other players across the NFL who had their practice squad contracts expire Monday included former Jaguars players Keelan Cole, Sidney Jones, Matt Overton, and Matthew Wright.

Jaguars bring back DL Henry Mondeaux as practice squad addition

Two months after cutting Henry Mondeaux from the injured reserve, the Jaguars brought the defensive tackle back Monday.

Two months after cutting ties with Henry Mondeaux, the Jacksonville Jaguars brought the defensive tackle back Monday by adding him to their practice squad, the team announced.

Mondeaux, 28, was signed by the Jaguars as a free agent in March after spending the 2022 season with the New York Giants and the three years before that with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

An undisclosed injury landed Mondeaux on the Jaguars’ injured reserve in mid-August and the team reached an injury settlement to waive him from the roster a week later.

The veteran defensive tackle has appeared in 37 regular season games with six career starts. He has two sacks, four tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, and 37 total tackles.

To make room for the addition, the Jaguars released defensive tackle Ross Blacklock from the practice squad. Jacksonville signed Blacklock in early September shortly after he was waived by the Minnesota Vikings at the end of preseason.

How Jaguars’ injuries could affect the 53-man roster

The Jaguars’ offensive and defensive line injuries could have an impact on the final 53-man roster.

With the preseason coming to a close, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ injuries, especially on the offensive and defensive lines, could influence the 53-man roster.

The Jaguars will play their final preseason game on Saturday against the Miami Dolphins. Jacksonville’s starters are mostly healthy, but some of the rotational players are less than 100 percent.

The Jaguars have already dropped one player due to injury on the defensive line. They reportedly released 27-year-old Henry Mondeaux on Tuesday from the injured reserve with a settlement.

He was set to handle second-team nose tackle duties behind DaVon Hamilton before he suffered an undisclosed injury — presumably during Jacksonville’s first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Hamilton is also out of action while he deals with a “non-football related medical issue” that’ll keep him out Saturday. Head coach Doug Pederson said Hamilton is “doing extremely well” and could be back in the building as early as next week, but it’s unclear when he’ll return to the field.

While Pederson spoke positively about Hamilton’s recovery, if the tackle is out for an extended period, other players could sneak into the 53-man roster. Seventh-round pick Raymond Vohasek may be in position to play himself into a roster spot with a strong performance Saturday.

The offensive line has also faced issues staying healthy. Another seventh-round rookie, Cooper Hodges, suffered a patella injury, which Pederson said will cause him “to miss a little time.” He said Hodges won’t need surgery, but a spot on the injured reserve could be a real possibility.

Veteran tackle Josh Wells is also set to miss time. Pederson didn’t have a timetable for return for the offensive lineman, but said he’ll miss some time, as well.

Wells’ injury could have an impact on the offensive line rotation. Blake Hance is currently the most likely winner of the swing tackle position, but Wells could be in the conversation, if healthy. Pederson recognized the unfortunate timing of the team’s offensive and defensive line injuries.

“If these injuries were going to happen, you’d love for them to be at the beginning of camp, and now they’re getting healthy,” Pederson said.

Wells and Hodges could be candidates for the physically unable to perform list or injured reserve, which would provide an opening for someone else on the roster.

Pederson also acknowledged the waiver wire as a possible resolution to the team’s injury troubles.

“That all factors into this, so we’ll take a look at it and see if someone is available to help you out whether it’s short-term or long-term,” he said.

After the Jaguars’ final preseason game on Saturday, the roster will need to be cut down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon.

Report: Jaguars release DL Henry Mondeaux with injury settlement

The Jaguars cut ties with DT Henry Mondeaux on Tuesday, one week after placing him on IR.

Henry Mondeaux’s time with the Jacksonville Jaguars is over five months after he joined the team as a free agent. On Tuesday, the team released Mondeaux from its injured reserve with a settlement, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston.

Mondeaux, 27, landed on the IR last week with an undisclosed injury that he presumably suffered during the team’s first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Prior to his injury and eventual release, Mondeaux was listed as the second-team nose tackle behind DaVon Hamilton and ahead of rookie Raymond Vohasek.

Hamilton is currently dealing with a back problem that the Jaguars are calling a “non-football related medical issue” and is away from the team while he recovers. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said the team will rely mostly on the contributions of Adam Gotsis and Jeremiah Ledbetter in Hamilton’s absence.

Prior to joining the Jaguars earlier this year, Mondeaux spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants. He has appeared in 37 regular season games and has 37 career tackles with two sacks and four tackles for loss.

Jaguars 2023 roster review: DT Henry Mondeaux

Henry Mondeaux has played for a handful of NFL teams, but is hoping to stick with the Jaguars in 2023.

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is underway. Join us for a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars kept quiet during free agency, opting instead to bring back most of their players. Much of the light tinkering that the team did do came on the defensive line.

One of the new additions was Henry Mondeaux, a veteran defensive tackle who previously had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants.

While the Jaguars list Mondeaux at just 6’5, 280 pounds, he’s also listed as a nose tackle competing to backup the 335-pound DaVon Hamilton. To earn the role, he’ll likely need to hold off seventh-round draft pick Raymond Vohasek.

Contract (2023): $1,010,000 base salary, $1,010,000 cap hit.

Acquired: The Jaguars signed Mondeaux as a free agent on March 27, 2023.

Jaguars agree to terms with ex-Giants DT Henry Mondeaux

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with former New York Giants defensive tackle Henry Mondeaux.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with former New York Giants defensive tackle Henry Mondeaux.

The 27-year-old Mondeaux originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 2018. He later had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers before being signed to the Giants’ practice squad last September.

The Giants elevated Mondeaux for a few games before eventually signing him to their 53-man roster in mid-November.

In 11 games (four starts) last season, Mondeaux recorded 16 tackles (five solo, one for a loss), one hurry, and one pressure. He also played on special teams.

Mondeaux was a restricted free agent who had not been tendered.

Jaguars reportedly agree to terms with DL Henry Mondeaux

The Jaguars reportedly added more depth to their defensive line Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added another name to their defensive line, reportedly agreeing to terms with defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux, according to Aaron Wilson of KRPC 2 in Houston.

Mondeaux, 27, has been a journeyman since cracking into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018. After stints on the rosters of the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, Mondeaux saw the field for the first time in 2020 during his second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He most recently spent the 2022 season with the New York Giants, bouncing between the practice squad and active roster for much of the year.

Mondeaux, a 6’4, 280 lineman, likely fits in as a defensive end in Jacksonville, where he’ll battle with another reported new addition, Michael Dogbe, for rotational snaps behind starters Roy Robertson-Harris and Folorunso Fatukasi.

In 37 career NFL games, Mondeaux has recorded 37 tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for loss. The terms of his deal with the Jaguars have not yet been revealed.

Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley limited in practice

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was added to the injury report on Thursday after being limited with a neck issue.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field Thursday and they saw the return of several players who had received veteran rest a day earlier.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence, guard Mark Glowinski and safety Julian Love were all full participants in practice.

The news wasn’t nearly as positive for safety Xavier McKinney, who remains on NFI. Head coach Brian Daboll said the captain had pins removed from his hand but didn’t sound optimistic about a 2022 return.

Meanwhile, defensive lineman Leonard Williams and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson remained sidelined. Running back Saquon Barkley was limited with a neck injury.

The Giants’ Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Joshua Ezeudu (neck), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee), OL Shane Lemieux (toe), DE Leonard Williams (neck)

Giants injury report: 7 players do not practice, 4 limited

7 members of the New York Giants missed practice on Wednesday (some for rest), and 4 others were limited. Kenny Golladay returned.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday in preparation for a Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

All eyes were on the walking wounded but the team didn’t offer good news in that regard. Safety Xavier McKinney is “doubtful” to return in time and questions remain about cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

However, a few are trending in the right direction.

Giants activate CB Rodarius Williams, sign DL Henry Mondeaux off practice squad

The New York Giants have activated CB Rodarius Williams off of IR and signed DL Henry Mondeaux to the active roster in a series of moves.

The New York Giants made a series of roster moves on Monday, which included adding several defensive reinforcements.

Cornerback Rodarius Williams, the team’s 2021 sixth-round pick, was activated off of injured reserve. He suffered a torn ACL in Week 6 of last season and opened the current season on IR. He rejoins a thin group that consists of Adoree’ Jackson, Fabian Moreau, Cor’Dale Flott and Darnay Holmes.

In addition to activating Williams, the Giants also signed defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux off of their practice squad.

Mondeaux has appeared in three games this season, all as a practice squad elevation, recording five tackles (one for a loss). He will replace Nick Williams, who landed on IR last week with a biceps injury.

In order to clear two spots on the 53-man roster, the Giants released offensive tackle Devery Hamilton and defensive back Justin Layne. Hamilton became expendable due to the recent returns of Nick Gates and Matt Peart, and the pending return of Shane Lemieux.

Finally, the Giants also terminated the practice squad contract of offensive tackle Will Holden.
