Cade Klubnik ranks Top 5 in Heisman odds after Week 9

Klubnik is in the hunt for Clemson’s first Heisman winner.

After Week 1 of the 2024 college football season, few would have predicted where Clemson starting quarterback Cade Klubnik was heading the rest of the season.

Since the Tigers Week 1 loss to Georgia, Clemson has won six straight games and have outscored opponents by an average of 27.3 points per game. Klubnik’s play has been a big reason of why they’ve been able to turn things around the way they have.

So far this season, Klubnik has thrown for 1,836 yards with 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. His QBR of 87.4 ranks fifth in college football, but he’s beyond just a threat through the air. With 227 yards and four rushing touchdowns, he’s a threat on the ground.

After the Tigers bye week, Klubnik has jumped to No. 5 in Heisman odds, according to FanDuel sportsbook. His +1500 is only followed by Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (+230), Colorado cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter (+270), Miami quarterback Cam Ward (+300), and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (+440).

Klubnik is a long shot, but you never know.

Notable 2023 Heisman Trophy odds

Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning both receive Heisman odds.

The 2023 college football season is a long way away, but it is never too early to start speculating about some of the more exciting players to look forward to.

BetOnline has released early 2023 Heisman Trophy odds, with North Carolina’s Drake Maye and USC’s Caleb Williams as favorites.

Maye returns to North Carolina after a breakout redshirt freshman season. He possesses a massive arm with NFL scout already drooling over him.

Williams is looking to become the first player to win back-to-back Heismans since Archie Griffin in 1975. Another big season leading the Trojans’ offense could have Williams holding the trophy yet again come Dec.

Following the two front runners on the list are a few quarterbacks who opted to put the NFL on hold and return for their senior year. Jordan Travis (Florida State), Bo Nix (Oregon) and Michael Penix Jr (Washington) are back with tons of experience.

The quarterback position tends to dominate the award and that does not seem to be changing this year. Michigan running back Blake Corum is the first non-quarterback on this list. He sits outside the top 10 in best odds at 33/1.

Here is a look at some of the notable Heisman Trophy favorites, dark horses, non-quarterbacks and long shots according to BetOnline’s odds.

Examining the last 40 Heisman winners and what history tells us

What do the winners of the Heisman Trophy since 1982 tell us?

The Heisman Trophy is down to four players as announced recently.

Caleb Williams (USC Trojans), Max Duggan (TCU Horned Frogs), C.J. Stroud (Ohio State Buckeyes), and Stetson Bennett (Georgia Bulldogs) were all given invites to the trophy presentation. Not all too shocking as these four quarterbacks play on teams that were in contention for the College Football Playoffs.

Looking back over the winners of this prestigious trophy since 1982, Trojans Wire tried to find trends that could help determine who the winner might be. Williams seems to be the favorite going into the ceremony later this week but I wouldn’t count those chickens just yet.

We broke down a six-pack of facts and opinions about the winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy since 1982:

Latest Heisman Trophy odds feature DJ Uiagalelei

This Clemson quarterback is a potential Heisman Trophy winner

The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding football player in the country, with the Clemson football program still looking for its first winner.

In recent years, Tigers fans have seen college football greats such as Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence finish second in years where it felt as if both were deserving of hoisting the illustrious award. The fact that neither of the national championship-winning quarterbacks won the award feels like a mistake.

With the past behind us, it looks like the next Clemson player who should have a shot at winning the award is current starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Yes, there are a lot of questions and concerns about Uiagalelei’s game and whether he will maintain the starting position throughout the next college football season. However, Vegas still sees a path for the young quarterback to turn things around.

According to Tipico Sportsbooks’ latest odds, the Clemson quarterback is tied with five other players with the 5th best odds to win the Heisman. Here is a list of the players with the best odds of winning the Heisman Trophy.

Every Heisman winner from current and future Big 12 schools since 1970

A look at the Heisman winners from current and future Big 12 schools since 1970.

The Big 12 Conference has seen its fair share of Heisman Trophy winners over the years. Some of the winners happened prior to the formation of the Big 12, of course, they fall under the banner of the Big 8 and the SWC prior to 1996.

The Texas Longhorns have celebrated a pair of Heisman winners during that stretch. The Oklahoma Sooners have seen more success as of late with four different quarterbacks earning the distinction since 2003. In consecutive seasons (1977-78), a pair of running backs featured in the Red River Rivalry took home the trophy.

Those two aren’t the only teams to win the most prestigious individual honor in college football. Winners hail from the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and new conference members BYU Cougars and Houston Cougars who start play in 2023.
