Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 117, Hawks 111

Moneyline

PASS.

Despite the expectation of the Heat winning on Tuesday, I’d avoid wagering on the money line in this pivotal matchup.

Against the spread

HEAT -5.5 (-105) is the pick in this contest with how these teams ended the season. Butler has excelled in playoff environments throughout his career and we’ve seen Miami have success against Atlanta this season. Plus, the Hawks are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road meetings against the Heat.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 227.5 (-110).

Even though the Heat are viewed as a defensive-minded team, both of these teams are bottom 11 in defensive rating in the last 15 games of the season. The Hawks are 4-0-1 to the Over in their last 5 overall and the Heat are 5-0 to the Over in their last 5 overall.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (32-32) visit Miami-Dade Arena to battle the Miami Heat (34-31) Monday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBA TV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hawks vs. Heat odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Heat are 2-1 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) against Atlanta this season. Miami beat Atlanta 117-109 Saturday, covering as a 3-point home favorite as the Under (227) connected.

Miami has covered just 2 of its last 8 games and is just 2-6 SU over that span as well. The Heat are 24-39-2 ATS on the season and 29-36 O/U. They rank last in the NBA in points per game (108.1).

The Hawks have covered just 2 of their last 7 games and are 4-5 ATS over their last 9. They are 28-36 ATS on the season and 36-28 O/U. Atlanta ranks 7th in the league in points per game (117).

Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 115, Hawks 110

Moneyline

PASS.

Although I think the Heat (-155) will win they haven’t been consistent enough lately to risk the extra juice in what might be a tight game.

Atlanta (+135) also hasn’t been good enough on the road to wager on here, despite the plus-money odds. It is just 14-19 straight up away from State Farm Arena.

Against the spread

LEAN HEAT -2.5 (-115).

The Hawks are just 14-18-1 ATS this season on the road and while the Heat haven’t been great for betters either, they were able to defeat the Hawks by 8 points Saturday as they limited Hawks G Trae Young. Miami shot 7 fewer free throws and had 3 more turnovers and still managed to secure the victory.

Expect Miami to be better in the rematch, and that should aid their ability to produce a similar result. The Heat would have covered this spread in their last 5 home games against Atlanta.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 229.5 (-115).

The Heat are 1-4 O/U in their last 5 games and have scored 110 or fewer points in 8 of their last 10. It has been their defense that has been problematic lately, and they still held Atlanta to 109 Saturday.

The Hawks are 0-2 O/U in their last 2 outings and 4-6 O/U in their last 10 games. Against G Jimmy Butler and C Bam Adebayo, the Hawks’ dynamic backcourt may struggle.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (32-31) and Miami Heat (33-31) meet Saturday at Miami-Dade Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hawks vs. Heat odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Hawks covered the spread as 8-point home favorites Friday with a 129-111 win vs. the Portland Trail Blazers. G Dejounte Murray scored a game-high 41 points for the Hawks, who have won 3 of their last 4 games. Atlanta is 14-12-1 against the spread (ATS) as an underdog this season.

The Heat failed to cover as 1-point home favorites Friday with a 122-120 loss vs. the New York Knicks. New York F Julius Randle hit the game-winning 3 with 1.1 seconds remaining as the Knicks handed Miami its 6th loss in its last 7 games. The Heat are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games after scoring 100 or more points in their previous contest.

The season series is tied 1-1 with the total splitting 1-1. Atlanta covered as a 1-point home favorite 121-113 as the Over (222.5) cashed in the most recent meeting Jan. 16.

Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 112, Heat 108

Moneyline

BET HAWKS (+120).

The Hawks are 8-4 in their last 12 away games when both G Trae Young and Murray are in the lineup. Atlanta is 2nd in offensive efficiency on the road this season and has won 3 of its last 4 games overall, with the 1 loss being by just 3 points vs. the improving Washington Wizards.

The Heat may come out flat Saturday after a deflating last-second loss vs. the Knicks last time out. Miami is just 26th in offensive efficiency this season and should struggle to match scoring with a Hawks team that has been trending upward lately.

Against the spread

PASS.

There is no need to take the points with the Hawks when Atlanta should win straight up at plus money. Bet the moneyline and/or total instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 225.5 (-112).

Miami scored 120 points Friday for just the 1st time since the Heat’s 124-98 win at the New Orleans Pelicans Jan. 18. The Under is 21-7 in Miami’s last 28 games vs. teams with a winning record and 5-2 in the Heat’s last 7 when playing on the 2nd night of a back-to-back.

The Under has hit in 7 of the last 8 meetings between these teams and Miami’s offensive struggles should help the Under hit once again Saturday.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 5 odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (1-3) visit FTX Arena Tuesday to take on the Miami Heat (3-1). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Heat Game 5 odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Heat are going to have a chance to join the Boston Celtics in punching their ticket to the second round.

The Hawks did avoid a potential sweep in Game 3 with a 111-110 victory. Game 4 was all Miami again though as the Heat pulled away in the second quarter by outscoring Atlanta 30-15 en route to a 110-86 victory.

Miami’s starting G Kyle Lowry will again be out. Among players who have yet to miss a postseason game, F Jimmy Butler ranks second in scoring at 30.5 points per game. Atlanta has had no answer for his aggression.

Atlanta has also had a hard time offensively as G Trae Young has struggled against an ultra-versatile Heat lineup. Young is averaging just 16.5 points per game and shooting 35.1% from the field.

Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 113, Hawks 103

Money line

PASS.

The Heat (-320) are far too pricey to suggest, and I’d stay away from predicting the upset as Miami outscored Atlanta by a combined 34 points at home through the first two games.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET MIAMI -7.5 (-102).

Plan and simple — Miami has been the superior team. Its defense on Young has been a masterclass so far in this series.

C Bam Adebayo and F P.J. Tucker are the real keys since they’re quintessential two-way players. The Heat’s defense ranked fourth in defensive rating this season, and it’s been able to hold Atlanta to fewer than 92 points in two of the four games thus far.

Offense could be an issue for the Heat against a better team, but given Atlanta ranked 26th in defensive rating in the regular season, that dilemma has yet to surface. The Heat’s two-way ability will again be too much for Atlanta to handle.

Miami won by 24 points and 10 points at home in Game 1 and 2 respectively. Riding a 24-point Game 4 win, it is 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in the series. Atlanta is 6-20 ATS as a road underdog this season.

Betting on Miami is the clear best bet in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 217.5 (-110).

Atlanta is 10-16 O/U as a road underdog.

When the series was in Miami for the first two games, the total went under both times. The series is 0-4 O/U already. This will be the lowest total it has seen, and it still would be just 2-2 O/U through the four games.

Given Atlanta has scored under 112 in each game and can’t get its superstar quality looks along with Miami’s defense being among the best in the NBA, it’s easy to again assume the under is the better play here.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 2 and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 8 seed Atlanta Hawks (0-1) continue their first-round playoff series with the No. 1 seed Miami Heat (1-0) Tuesday at the FTX Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Miami beat the brakes off of Atlanta 115-91 Sunday in Game 1, outscoring the Hawks in each of the first three quarters and the Heat’s biggest lead was 32 points.

The Heat neutralized Hawks All-Star PG Trae Young, who was 1-for-12 from the field (0-for-7 from threes), and forced 6 turnovers to Young’s 4 assists. On the other hand, Miami got whatever it wanted, shooting 52.4% and 47.4% from behind the arc.

Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 114, Hawks 103

Money line

PASS

Even though the Heat should win this handily, Miami (-350) is way out of my price range.

The loss of Capela is huge for the Hawks (+265) and Miami is the best 3-point team in the NBA by offensive and defensive 3-point shooting differential. But I’m confident enough in the Heat to go with their spread instead of spending on the pricey ML.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

TAKE the HEAT -7.5 (-108) because the Hawks +7.5 (-112) are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 visits to Miami and Young has struggled in South Beach throughout his career. He is averaging just 17.4 points on 36.9% shooting (26.7% from 3) with 5.4 turnovers in 9 career games in Miami.

Also, Atlanta is 4-16 ATS on the road versus teams with a winning record and 2-7 ATS as 5-to-9.5-point underdogs while Miami is clicking at the right time and is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 games.

Furthermore, the Heat were fourth in defensive rating over the regular season and the Hawks are 2-12 straight up versus top-10 defenses with a minus-6.7 adjusted net rating and a minus-3.0 ATS differential, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

BET the HEAT -7.5 (-105).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 219.5 (-115) since the presumed sharp side of the market is projecting a lower-scoring game, both teams are ranked 20th in pace or slower, Atlanta is 0-9 O/U in the last 9 games as an underdog and all four of the referees assigned to this game have officiated more Unders than Overs.

However, the total has been increased from the 217-point opener so perhaps oddsmakers are trying to induce more Under action and both teams are top-10 in offensive FT/FGA rate.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Game 1 odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 8 seed Atlanta Hawks visit FTX Arena Sunday to take on the top-seeded Miami Heat. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Hawks won their way up to the No. 8 seed by winning the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. Originally the No. 9 seed, Atlanta destroyed the Charlotte Hornets 132-103 in the 9-10 game Wednesday and then won at the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-101 Friday to claim the East’s No. 8 seed in the playoffs.

Atlanta has covered 9 of its last 11 games but is 37-45 against the spread (ATS) on the season. The Hawks are 15-27 ATS on the road, which should make bettors hesitant to back them.

As for Miami, it was a dominant 53-29 this season, claiming the top spot in the conference. Miami covered 6 consecutive games before failing to cover its regular-season finale. The Marlins are 21-20 ATS at home.

Miami ranks 12th in offensive rating and 4th in defensive rating. PF Jimmy Butler leads the team in scoring at 21.4 points per game. The Heat also rank top 10 in both offensive and defensive rebounding rate.

Hawks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 115, Hawks 105

Money line

PASS.

The Heat (-290) should win this game as the loss of Capela for the Hawks is notable. However, at the -290 price, it’s not worth any wager.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET HEAT -6.5 (-112).

The Hawks have been awful on the road this season, and if Cleveland had C Jarrett Allen at full strength in Friday’s game, you couldn’t convince many that Atlanta would’ve entered as a favorite and covered in that position.

Now, the Hawks will be down their starting center and may get back Collins, who may not be at full strength. Miami C Bam Adebayo will be versatile enough to make a difference on Atlanta PG Trae Young, the Hawks’ leading scorer.

Adebayo will make pick-and-rolls far less effective. These teams rank first (Heat) and second (Hawks) in 3-point shooting. The only difference is that Miami ranks first in opponents’ 3-point shooting.

I expect MIAMI -6.5 (-112) to heavily limit a lethal Atlanta attack and cover the spread with ease.

Over/Under

LEAN to the OVER 218.5 (-115).

While the Heat should be able to limit the Hawks, Atlanta has ranked 8th in pace and 7th in offensive rating over its last 15 games. It’s going to get some good looks.

Atlanta also has ranked first in turnover rate over its last 15, so it takes care of the ball. Both teams have been far better at cashing Over tickets this season as well, with Atlanta 43-39 O/U and Miami 49-33 O/U.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (42-38) head to South Beach Friday to play the first-place Miami Heat (52-28). Tip-off at FTX Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Atlanta bounced back from a 118-108 loss at the Toronto Raptors Tuesday to beat the Washington Wizards 118-103 the next night. The Hawks are 6-1 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in their last seven games.

Miami hammered the Charlotte Hornets 144-115 Tuesday for its fifth consecutive victory (5-0 ATS).

The Heat are 2-1 SU and ATS versus the Hawks this season and the total is 2-1 Over/Under (O/U), but Atlanta beat Miami 110-108 at home in their last meeting Jan. 21.

Hawks at Heat odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 117, Hawks 112

Money line

LEAN HEAT (+102) because I prefer to take any points I can get with Miami. However, the Heat are 4-1 SU as home underdogs and play exceptional pick-and-roll, which is imperative when playing the Hawks and All-Star PG Trae Young.

Atlanta is also 26th in defensive rating and Miami tears up bad defenses. The Heat are 23-7 SU versus teams in the bottom-10 of defensive efficiency with a plus-9.1 adjusted net rating (ranked seventh) and a plus-3.6 ATS margin (ranked seventh) according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

The Heat are the right side but I’d prefer to wait to see if Miami’s spread goes north of +2.5. LEAN HEAT (+102).

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET the HEAT +1.5 (-108) because I cannot reverse engineer the crazy line movement so my hunch is that the oddsmakers were correct when they made Miami a 4.5-point favorite on the opener.

Sportsbooks are aware of the Heat’s injury woes throughout the season yet still opened Miami as a clear favorite. Even if the Heat are sitting several key contributors, Miami’s role players can hold down the fort at home.

Furthermore, this is a bad spot for Atlanta and a good one for Miami. The Hawks are 4-14 ATS on the road versus teams with a winning record, 1-4 ATS in their last five visits to Miami and 9-11 ATS with a rest disadvantage. While the Heat are 9-6 ATS with 2-3 days off and a plus-6.6 ATS margin.

However, I’d wait until the official starting 5s are announced in case the HEAT +1.5 (-108) increases because, if they don’t, I’d still bet Miami up to a 2.5-point favorite.

Over/Under

PASS because my prediction aligns with the market’s projected score so there’s no value for me in this total.

For what it’s worth, Atlanta is 42-38 O/U and 9-7 O/U as a road favorite while Miami is 47-32-1 O/U and 3-2 O/U as a home underdog. But, a vast majority of the market is on the Over, per Tipico.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Miami Heat (16-17) host the Atlanta Hawks (14-19) Sunday at American Airlines Arena for the first game of a two-game miniseries. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Heat odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Atlanta started February with a winning record but has gone on three- and four-game losing streaks this month. The Hawks have alternated between winning and losing over their last seven games (3-4 straight up and against the spread) and are coming off a 118-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder as 5.5-point road favorites Friday.

The Heat have started to look like the team many NBA experts forecasted before the season and are winners of five in a row (5-0 ATS). Their most recent win was as impressive of a victory as you can have at this point in the season; Miami took down the white-hot Utah Jazz 124-116 as a 6.5-point home underdog Friday.

The Hawks won the final head-to-head meeting last season but lost the other three games to the Heat and were 1-3 ATS in the season series.

Hawks at Heat: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Heat 119, Hawks 107

Money line (ML)

PASS because Miami is the right side but betting the Heat at -250 is a bad long-term strategy. “Crazy” stuff happens all the time in the NBA regular season.

Against the spread (ATS)

The HEAT -6.5 (-105) are starting to dial-in offensively and there are several holes they can poke in the Hawks defense.

For example, Atlanta doesn’t force a lot of turnovers (27th in turnover rate), it sends opponents to the foul line (19th in defensive FTA/FG rate) and the Hawks are 26th in defensive effective field-goal percentage this month.

Miami is getting healthier and starting to look like last year’s team. The Heat averaged 120 points per game in back-to-back wins over an above-average Toronto Raptors defense and an elite Jazz D prior to Sunday’s game.

TAKE the HEAT -6.5 (-105) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

This part of the handicap is a little more reliant on the injury report because I’ll like the OVER 219.5 (-110) a little less if Young can’t play.

Miami’s offense has it going and Atlanta’s defense has declined this month. The Hawks will need to match the Heat’s scoring so even if Young is out, we should see a high volume of threes from Atlanta.

BET OVER 219.5 (-110) for a half-unit.
