Georgia-Georgia Tech scheduled to be played in Mercedes-Benz

The Georgia versus Georgia Tech rivalry has a new home for the 2025 season

The Georgia Bulldogs versus Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rivalry is getting turned on its head. Georgia hosts Georgia Tech on Black Friday this year (on Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET).

Next year, Georgia and Georgia Tech will play in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Tech was previously scheduled to host the game at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game being played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium is part of a concerning trend of college football games being played at off-campus neutral sites as opposed to on-campus stadiums. Georgia is now scheduled to play two neutral site games in 2025 with the other being Georgia’s usual game in Jacksonville, Florida, against the Florida Gators.

Chad Bishop of the AJC broke the news of the Georgia-Georgia Tech game being played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2025.

How much is Georgia Tech planning to pay its recent 5-star commit

How Georgia Tech landed a rare five-star commitment. A multimillion dollar NIL deal helped the Yellow Jackets in this one

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets recently picked up a commitment from five-star offensive tackle recruit Josh Petty. In fact, Petty represents history for the Georgia Tech program. He could become the second five-star signee in school history (according to 247Sports).

“Tech’s been very easy. Tech’s been very cooperative and efficient with working on that. I needed that number to be fair. Tech went beyond and above and really have taken care of me,” said Petty in a recent interview with the AJC.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle is the 14th best player in the country. Petty is the fourth-ranked recruit in the Peach State and the top offensive tackle in Georgia. The Georgia Tech commit is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation.

It is safe to say Petty is a massive addition for Tech and head coach Brent Key. According to On3, a name, image and likeness licensing deal worth $2.4 million over three years helped the Yellow Jackets land a commitment from the talented offensive tackle.

Petty’s commitment represents a potential massive change in momentum for the Georgia Tech program. Georgia Tech is projected to pick up a commitment from Georgia’s most recent decommitment.

Petty’s commitment is another example of how Tech is becoming more of a pain in the side for the Georgia Bulldogs. One of Georgia’s top advantages over other elite college football programs is its lack of in-state recruiting competition. There’s no other state with as many top recruits and so little in-state recruiting competition.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart still runs recruiting in the Peach State. The Bulldogs are expected to land commitments from five of the state’s top six recruits in the 2025 cycle.

Georgia Tech projected to land its first 5-star since 2004

Georgia Tech football may be becoming more competitive with Georgia for the best in-state recruits

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are projected to land a commitment from its first five-star recruit since 2004. 247Sports projects the Yellow Jackets will add a commitment from five-star offensive tackle recruit Josh Petty.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle is the 14th best player in the country. Petty is the fourth-ranked recruit in Georgia and the top offensive tackle in the Peach State. The Georgia Tech recruiting target is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation.

If Petty signs with Georgia Tech and maintains his five-star ranking as a recruit, he would be the second five-star signee in Georgia Tech school history (according to 247Sports). Georgia Tech signed five-star wide receiver Calvin Johnson in the class of 2004.

One of the Georgia Bulldogs’ top advantages over other college football programs is their lack of in-state recruiting competition. There’s no other state with as many elite recruits and so little in-state recruiting competition. However, Georgia Tech’s potential emergence on the recruiting trail would represent a significant change for Georgia.

Georgia Tech has not finished with a top 40 recruiting class since the 2020 cycle, so the Yellow Jackets may not be an imminent threat to Georgia’s consistent haul of top-three recruiting classes. However, the Yellow Jackets are making progress under head coach Brent Key and are a thorn in the side of the Bulldogs with much greater frequency these days.

For now, head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia run the Peach State. The Bulldogs have earned commitments from eight of the state’s top 30 recruits in the 2025 cycle and are projected to land several more top in-state recruits. No other program has more than two commitments from top 30 recruits in Georgia.

Let’s take a look back at the series history between Georgia and Georgia Tech:

Georgia Tech’s highest-ranked commit decommits

Georgia Tech’s highest-ranked commitment in the class of 2024 has decommitted from the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech’s highest-ranked commit in the class of 2024, Christopher “CJ” Jackson, has decommitted from the Yellow Jackets.

Jackson, a member of the class of 2024, is the No. 64 recruit in his recruiting cycle. Jackson is the No. 7 edge rusher in the country and the No. 10 recruit in Georgia, per On3.

Jackson is a pass rusher for Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia. Tucker is located near Atlanta, Georgia.

The four-star edge rusher has received an invitation to the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football could be a school to watch for Jackson. Jackson decommitted from Georgia Tech shortly after the Yellow Jackets lost to Bowling Green.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound pass rusher shows good speed, quickness at the snap and good effort in pursuit. Jackson frequently beats opposing offensive tackles to the inside and takes the quickest path to the quarterback on stunts.

Jackson announced his decommitment from Georgia Tech via social media.

Georgia TE announces transfer destination

Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brett Seither was one of three UGA tight ends in the transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brett Seither is transferring to Georgia Tech. Seither joined a pair of Georgia tight ends, Arik Gilbert and Ryland Goede, in the transfer portal this offseason.

Seither is expected to have two years of eligibility left.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end played special teams and hauled in three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in Georgia’s 2021 college football season. Seither, who won a pair of national titles during his time at Georgia, is expected to have a larger role with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Georgia remains stacked at tight end. The Bulldogs return Brock Bowers and Oscar Delp for the 2023 college football season. Additionally, Georgia has a loaded class of 2023 at the tight end position.

Seither redshirted during the 2019 season as a freshman. Seither appeared in both the Arkansas State and Murray State games.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Seither came to Athens, Georgia, as a three-star prospect in the class of 2019 out of Clearwater Central Catholic High School. Seither originally committed to Georgia over Alabama.

Seither will have multiple years of eligibility wherever he decides to transfer. He helped provide depth to Georgia’s team during the College Football Playoff when he could have easily entered the transfer portal.

Georgia Tech hires Georgia offensive analyst Buster Faulkner

UGA offensive analyst Buster Faulkner will serve as the offensive coordinator for Georgia Tech

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and new head coach Brent Key have found their offensive coordinator. Georgia Tech reportedly plucked away Buster Faulkner of Georgia’s staff to be their offensive coordinator.

Who is Buster Faulkner? Faulkner has previously served as the offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, and most recently Southern Mississippi.

Faulkner, who is from Lilburn, Georgia, attended college at Valdosta State. Faulkner has served as an offensive analyst at Georgia for the past three seasons.

The Bulldogs have had a very innovative offense in recent seasons under Todd Monken. Faulkner was a key contributor on Georgia’s offensive staff and helped Stetson Bennett be named as a Heisman finalist.

Buster Faulkner has been serving a role where he helps offensive coordinator Todd Monken communicate to Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett.

Kirby Smart has had an excellent coaching staff for the 2022 college football season. Faulkner appears to be the first departure, however, he may still coach in the College Football Playoff. Faulkner is already hitting the recruiting trail for Georgia Tech.

Last offseason, Georgia lost defensive coordinator Dan Lanning to Oregon.
