Broncos RB Latavius Murray nominated for Ground Player of the Week award

Go vote for #Broncos RB Latavius Murray to win the Ground Player of the Week award! đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

After rushing 24 times for 130 yards and one touchdown in Sunday’s 24-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos running back Latavius Murray has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award on NFL.com (fans can vote for Murray here).

Murray became Denver’s first running back this season to rush for 100 yards in a single game on Sunday, but he deflected praise back to his offensive line after Sunday’s impressive performance.

“I think it has to start up front — giving us some lanes,” Murray said. “Especially on those big runs — getting outside, getting on the edge, and blocking, and just hitting it when it’s there, gaining the yards that need to be gained. Those big gains again, those guys [the offensive lineman] getting out on the edge and giving me an opportunity [to make a play].”

Murray faces tough competition this week from New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who rushed 19 times for 172 yards and a touchdown in Week 15. Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier (17 carries for 139 yards and one TD) was also nominated.

Fans can vote for Murray on NFL.com. The winner will be announced later this week.

Packers RB Aaron Jones nominated for FedEx Ground Player of Week 2

Packers RB Aaron Jones, who rushed for 132 yards on Sunday night against the Bears, is up for a weekly award.

After rushing for 132 yards on 15 carries during the Green Bay Packers’ 27-10 win over the Chicago Bears, running back Aaron Jones has been nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season.

As of Sunday, Jones’ 132 rushing yards are the most by a player during Week 2, and the fifth-highest total of the 2022 season.

Jones averaged 8.8 yards per carry against the Bears. He created four runs of at least 14 yards, seven of at least seven yards and 10 of at least five yards. His lone touchdown was a run of 15 yards.

Overall, Jones created 170 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns during a dynamic performance in primetime.

“Aaron Jones, man, he was absolutely electric,” coach Matt LaFleur said. “Every time I’d think he was going down he’d somehow find a way to squirt his way through. And he’s just a hell of a competitor, and he’s a guy that just embodies everything that you want in a football player, the way he works, how selfless he is, how he cheers for his teammates, how he supports his teammates. They don’t make many like this guy. He is one of a kind. And we’re lucky to have a guy like that.”

You can vote for Jones on Twitter or at NFL.com.

Rashaad Penny wins FedEx Ground Player of the Week again

Rashaad Penny wins FedEx Ground Player of the Week again

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny has won the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for the second consecutive game. As a result, FedEx will once again donate $2,000 in Penny’s name to HBCUs, which will be used to finance scholarships for students.

Penny rushed for a new career-high of 190 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18. The fourth-year running back caught fire in the final month of the 2021 season and ended the year with another monster performance that he or his agent could use as leverage for a new contract in free agency, be it in the Emerald City or elsewhere.

Penny has openly stated that he hopes to return to Seattle, but we will see what they and other teams offer him in March.

Detroit Lions D’Andre Swift nominated for NFL Ground Player of Week 6

Detroit Lions rookie running back D’Andre Swift has been nominated for the NFL Ground Player of Week 6 award — here’s how to vote!

Detroit Lions rookie running back D’Andre Swift has been nominated for the NFL Ground Player of Week 6 award, given to the best performance by a running back in the current week — here’s how to vote for him to win!

Swift’s nomination shouldn’t be overly surprising. He led the Lions backfield in snaps, was the No. 1 star in Lions Wire’s post-game awards, and the top player acknowledged in our Week 6 Studs and Duds review.

On a career day, Swift was able to rush for 116-yards on 14 carries, for an 8.3 yards per carry average, while also scoring on two rushing touchdowns.  He also added three receptions for seven receiving yards for good measure.

Here’s a look at his top-3 plays of the day, including a speedy 54-yard rush that helped the Lions establish an early lead on the Jaguars:

His competition for this week’s award is Tennesse Titans’ Derrick Henry (212 yards on 22 carries, 9.6 avg., and 2 TDs) and Ronald Jones (113 yards on 23 carries, 4.9 avg., 2 TDs).

And remember to vote for Swift here!
