Broncos RB Latavius Murray nominated for Ground Player of the Week award

Go vote for #Broncos RB Latavius Murray to win the Ground Player of the Week award! 👏👏👏

After rushing 24 times for 130 yards and one touchdown in Sunday’s 24-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos running back Latavius Murray has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award on NFL.com (fans can vote for Murray here).

Murray became Denver’s first running back this season to rush for 100 yards in a single game on Sunday, but he deflected praise back to his offensive line after Sunday’s impressive performance.

“I think it has to start up front — giving us some lanes,” Murray said. “Especially on those big runs — getting outside, getting on the edge, and blocking, and just hitting it when it’s there, gaining the yards that need to be gained. Those big gains again, those guys [the offensive lineman] getting out on the edge and giving me an opportunity [to make a play].”

Murray faces tough competition this week from New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who rushed 19 times for 172 yards and a touchdown in Week 15. Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier (17 carries for 139 yards and one TD) was also nominated.

Fans can vote for Murray on NFL.com. The winner will be announced later this week.

Broncos RB Javonte Williams nominated for Rookie of the Week

Broncos RB Javonte Williams needs to average 62 rushing yards in the team’s final three games to finish the year with 1,000 rushing yards.

For the fourth consecutive week, Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams has been nominated for the Rookie of the Week award on NFL.com.

Williams totaled 81 yards from scrimmage in Week 15, which was good enough to earn him another nomination for the weekly award.

Williams has 1,103 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns through 14 games this season. He needs to average 62 rushing yards per game in the team’s final three contests to finish the year with 1,000 yards on the ground.

Williams took home Rookie of the Week honors in Week 9 and he would have had a great chance to win again in Week 12 if teammate Pat Surtain hadn’t recorded two interceptions and a pick-six that week.

Surtain, the team’s first-round pick, and Williams, Denver’s second-round pick, have each won the award once this season and they will likely be in contention for Defensive and Offensive Rookie of the Year honors at the end of the season.

Fans can vote for Williams this week at NFL.com/Rookies.

Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

On the day the Broncos honored late wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, McManus scored eight points while wearing jersey No. 8 in Denver’s 31-10 win over the Detroit Lions.

McManus converted a 52-yard field goal in the win and went five-of-five on extra point attempts while wearing custom “8-8” cleats to honor Thomas.

McManus has converted 20-of-23 field goal attempts this season and 27-of-28 extra point attempts, accounting for 87 total points. McManus ranks second on the team’s all-time scoring list (813 points), trailing only Ring of Fame kicker Jason Elam (1,786 points).

This is the third time McManus has earned Player of the Week honors in his career. He is the only remaining player on the roster that won Super Bowl 50 with Denver following the 2015 season. McManus has three years remaining on his contract that’s scheduled to expire in 2025.

Go vote for Javonte Williams for Rookie of the Week!

For a second consecutive week, Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams has been nominated for the Rookie of the Week award on NFL.com.

Broncos CB Pat Surtain named Rookie of the Week

Congrats to Broncos CB Pat Surtain! Denver RB Javonte Williams finished third in the voting.

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain has been named Rookie of the Week, an honor voted on by fans on NFL.com.

Surtain had a big game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12, totaling five tackles, two pass breakups and two interceptions in a 28-13 win. Surtain’s 70-yard pick-six in the fourth quarter also helped him earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Broncos running back Javonte Williams (111 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown) finished third in the Rookie of the Week voting (Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle finished second).

In Week 9, Williams won the Rookie of the Week award after he rushed for 111 yards in Denver’s 30-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Surtain was selected by the Broncos with the ninth overall pick in this year’s NFL draft out of Alabama. Denver then traded up in the second round of the draft to select Williams out of North Carolina. It’s still early, but those two picks appear to have been excellent decisions by the Broncos.

Broncos CB Pat Surtain named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

We have a feeling Pat Surtain’s going to win many more awards in his career.

Following his two-interception performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12, Denver Broncos rookie cornerback has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Surtain also totaled five tackles in Denver’s 28-13 win.

Surtain is the first Broncos rookie to record multiple interceptions — including a pick-six — in the same game.

This might not be the only award Surtain wins this year. Surtain has been nominated for the Rookie of the Week award and he’ll likely be a strong candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors at the end of the season, and perhaps even the overall Rookie of the Year award.

“He played really well yesterday,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Monday. “Obviously, the two interceptions everybody knows about, but he’s [broken] up some passes too that were critical. They don’t quite get the same pizzazz that the picks do, but they’re just as critical. He’s been playing good football for us all year.”

It’s safe to say Denver has no regrets over using its first-round pick in April’s draft to select the Alabama cornerback.

“We’re thrilled to have him,” Fangio said. “I don’t want to speak for George [Paton], but I think I am. If we had to redo the draft right now and it was the same players available at No. 9 — it’d be the same pick.”

After the first 100-yard game of his career, Broncos RB Javonte Williams has been nominated for the Rookie of the Week award!

The Denver Broncos gave rookie running back Javonte Williams a career-high 17 carries during Sunday’s big win over the Dallas Cowboys. Williams took advantage of that increased workload by rushing for 100 yards in a single game for the first time in his NFL career.

After averaging 6.53 yards per carry and finishing the day with 111 yards on the ground, Williams has been nominated for the Rookie of the Week award on NFL.com (vote for him here).

Sunday might have been a breakout game for Williams, but it wasn’t a surprising performance to fans in Denver. Williams has looked extremely promising this season, forcing 35 missed tackles on run plays, according to Pro Football Focus.

That’s more forced missed tackles than 19 NFL teams have totaled this season.

This is nothing new for Williams, who led college football with 75 broken tackles last season. He’s tough to bring down!

Through nine games this season, Williams has rushed 95 times for 466 yards, averaging and impressive 4.9 yards per carry. The second-round pick out of North Carolina has certainly lived up to the hype thus far.

Broncos DL Dre’Mont Jones named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Broncos defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Denver Broncos rookie defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after his standout performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the league announced Friday.

Jones has been battling an ankle injury and was a game-time decision for last week’s game. He played through the injury and totaled five tackles and 2.5 sacks in a 27-17 win.

“I was pleasantly surprised,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said of Jones winning the award. “I was happy for him. Again, he was the guy that had the workout before the game.

“We didn’t really know if he was going to play or not. If you were a betting man during the week you would have bet that he wouldn’t have. He really wanted to play and it was nice to see him get rewarded.”

Jones (6-3, 281 pounds) was selected by Denver in the third round of April’s draft out of Ohio State. He has recorded 14 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one interception this year. Jones has also broken up two passes.

Jones is just the third Broncos rookie in franchise history to win a Defensive Player of the Week Award and the first since Von Miller in 2011.

“It [means] a lot to me, especially because of the history behind it and being the third rookie to do it,” the defensive lineman said Friday.
