The Memphis Grizzlies (0-4) will go up against the Utah Jazz (1-3) on Wednesday at Delta Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Grizzlies vs. Jazz odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; split last season’s series 2-2

The Grizzlies fell short of covering the spread (-1) and the Over (223) hit in their 125-110 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Memphis has lost 4 consecutive games to begin the season, and 3 of those games were played at home.

The Jazz were defeated by the Denver Nuggets 110-102 on Monday, covering as 9-point road underdogs and connecting on Under 226 points. Dating back to last season, Utah has now lost 8 of its last 10 contests.

Grizzlies at Jazz picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 117, Jazz 113

Moneyline

I believe Memphis will get on track soon amid Morant’s suspension, so I’ll back the GRIZZLIES (+110) on the road. Even with the Grizzlies missing some depth pieces due to injury, they have a talented team that is better than their record indicates.

While Memphis is 27th in offensive rating through 4 games, Utah is dead last in defensive rating to begin the season.

Against the spread

GRIZZLIES +2.5 (-115) is the play in this matchup considering I have Memphis securing the victory. Even if the Grizzlies don’t come away with their 1st win of the season, they should keep it close against a young Jazz squad.

Utah is 2-7-1 ATS against Memphis in the last 10 meetings.

Over/Under

OVER 223.5 (-110) is the lean in this showdown as both teams are top 15 in pace. The trio of G Desmond Bane, F Jaren Jackson Jr., and G Marcus Smart are enough to produce a decent number of points against the Jazz.

Meanwhile, the Jazz just need other guys to step up alongside F Lauri Markkanen. The Over is also 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between Memphis and Utah.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (4-2) take a trip to Salt Lake City to visit the Utah Jazz (5-2) Monday. Tipoff from Vivint Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Grizzlies vs. Jazz odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Grizzlies come into this game off a 124-123 loss Saturday at this same Jazz team, failing to cover as 3.5-point favorites. Star G Ja Morant missed that game due to a non-covid-related illness. G Desmond Bane scored a phenomenal 32 points with 6 rebounds in Morant’s absence. The Grizzlies shot an astounding 44.4% from beyond the arc and 56.8% from the field in the loss.

The Jazz escaped with the win despite shooting worse from both the field (51.7%) and downtown (43.2%). F Kelly Olynyk and F Lauri Markkanen tied with a team-high 23 points. Olynk did so on 80% shooting from the field (8-of-10) whereas Markkanen shot 42.9% (9-of-21).

Grizzlies at Jazz picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 118, Grizzlies 104

Moneyline

LEAN JAZZ (+110).

This bet will hinge heavily on the health of the Grizzlies. If Morant and Bane play then the Grizzlies are way more likely to win this game, but if the Grizzlies are without their best players — and without their 3rd best player in Jackson Jr. — then they won’t have enough to beat this mostly healthy Jazz team.

Against the spread

LEAN JAZZ +2.5 (-112).

The Jazz should win this game if the stars for the Grizzlies do not play, but even if the stars play this bet is fairly safe. The Jazz are proving that they are not ready to enter rebuild mode just yet and are proving that they are a solid team in a loaded western conference.

Utah has shown that it can win against solid teams and I expect them to do that Monday.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 229.5 (-108).

Normally I would say to bet the Over in this game and I would feel very confident in doing so based on the fact that these teams would cover this over in almost every game each of them has played. However, because I have doubts about the Grizzlies’ health coming into this one I would bet my money on the Under.

When fully healthy the Grizzlies have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, but without their top scorers, they will be missing a lot of production. Couple that with the Jazz and their mediocrity on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and the Under should be safer Monday.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (4-1) visit Salt Lake City to battle the Utah Jazz (4-2) Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Grizzlies vs. Jazz odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Grizzlies could be without superstar PG Ja Morant, who is listed as “doubtful” with a non-COVID illness on the NBA injury report. They enter on a 2-game win streak, recently winning at Sacramento 125-110 as 2.5-point favorites Thursday — Morant did play and scored 22 points with 6 assists.

Utah is still looking to find itself after trading star G Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland in the offseason. The Jazz are coming off a 117-101 loss at Denver Friday. The Jazz were 7.5-point underdogs in the loss and are 3-3 against the spread (ATS) for the season. However, they are a perfect 2-0 straight up (SU) at home — and 1-1 ATS there.

With Morant iffy to play, the Jazz have a good opportunity to gain a victory against one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

If Morant sits, the Grizzlies will look to its supporting cast of C Steven Adams and SG Desmond Bane, who scored a game-high 31 points Thursday against the Kings — he had 38 the game before Monday in a 134-124 home win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Grizzlies at Jazz picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 113, Jazz 102

Moneyline

AVOID.

Memphis’ 2 wins during its current streak were by 15 and 10 points, making me think the Grizzlies won’t have a problem covering the 3.5-point spread. Therefore, I’ll refrain from making a play here and instead focus on the spread.

Against the spread

BET GRIZZLIES -3.5 (-108).

I like the Grizzlies to win this game going away, making the -3.5 number a better value than the ML of -165. Even if Morant sits out, MEMPHIS -3.5 (-108) is my FAVORITE PLAY.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 225.5 (-112).

This will be a narrow escape. The Grizzlies are 4-1 O/U, while the Jazz are 2-4 O/U.

The Jazz, playing at home, will attempt to keep the pace at their comfort level. They should be able to do so. This will hold scoring down just enough to cash Under tickets.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (55-23) visit Salt Lake City Tuesday to play the Utah Jazz (46-32). Tip-off at the Vivint Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Grizzlies vs. Jazz odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Memphis enters on a 7-game winning streak – 6-1 against the spread (ATS) – with the latest being a 122-114 upset victory as a 7.5-point home underdog versus the Phoenix Suns Friday.

Utah is 1-6 straight up (SU) and 0-7 ATS in the last 7 games, most recently losing as a 2.5-point favorite at the Golden State Warriors 111-107 Saturday.

The Grizzlies are 2-0 SU and ATS versus the Jazz this season and the Over is 7-0 in the last seven Grizzlies-Jazz meetings.

Grizzlies at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 116, Grizzlies 107

Money line

PASS. I’m confident the Jazz (-240) win, but the price is too expensive, especially considering the Grizzlies (+190) are 20-2 SU without Morant.

However, Utah’s huge flaw defensively is its inability to stay in front of ball handlers. Memphis will most likely be without its two best shot creators and penetrators in Morant and Brooks, who leads the Grizzlies in adjusted on/off net rating at plus-8.2, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Memphis’s offense will be far less efficient running through SG Desmond Bane and PF Jaren Jackson Jr. Without Morant and Brooks breaking down the Jazz’s defense and finding open shooters, I don’t see how the Grizzlies get good looks.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET JAZZ -5.5 (-115) for 1 unit because the Grizzlies +5.5 (-110), based on the analysis above, feels like a trap line.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, roughly 75% of the action is on Memphis, but the line hasn’t budged off the opener. This line freeze suggests the oddsmakers want more pro-Memphis money and the last thing we want to do as bettors is fall into the House’s trap.

Also, Utah has been downright terrible lately, which makes me feel even stronger about the JAZZ -5.5 (-115). Over the past two weeks, Utah is 26th in adjusted net rating (minus-9.1) and last in ATS margin (minus-9.8), per CTG.

UTAH -5.5 (-115) all the way up to -6.5 is the play.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 225.5 (-107).

A vast majority of the market is betting the Over and the total has been steamed way up from the 221-point opener despite Memphis’ backcourt absences.

It’s only a LEAN to the UNDER 225.5 (-107) since Utah is 6-0 O/U in the last 6 games versus teams with a winning record and Memphis is 11-1 O/U in the last 11 versus winning teams.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (8-8) link up with the Utah Jazz (11-5) Monday for a 9 p.m. ET tip-off at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City. Below, we look at the Grizzlies vs. Jazz odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Memphis has lost four of its past six games – including a 138-95 beatdown Saturday by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Grizzlies have the worst defensive efficiency in the NBA along with the 25th-ranked net rating (minus-5.4). Memphis is 9-7 ATS and 8-8 O/U.

Utah stormed past the Sacramento Kings 123-105 Saturday for its third consecutive win. The Jazz have the highest rebounding rate and second-highest effective field goal shooting (eFG%) in the Association. Utah is 10-6 ATS and 6-10 O/U with the second-best net rating (plus-9.8).

The Jazz rallied back after losing Game 1 of their first-round playoff series with the Grizzlies to win 4-1 (4-1 ATS). Memphis has only beaten Utah once in the past 10 meetings (3-7 ATS), which includes last year’s postseason. The Over has cashed in nine of the last 10 Grizzlies-Jazz meetings.

Grizzlies at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 121, Grizzlies 108

Money line

PASS because the Jazz (-600) should handle business at home Monday, but Utah’s money line is out of my price range.

Also, the most important phase of basketball nowadays is the 3-point shot. Well, Memphis has the worst 3-point defense in the Association, and Utah has the highest 3-point volume.

Furthermore, the Jazz have a below-average 3-point shooting percentage as a team but have the highest adjusted offensive shot quality (according to ShotQuality.com). If anything Utah is due for a couple of hot shooting nights, and Memphis is the perfect opponent for a good 3-point shooting night.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the JAZZ +9.5 (-112) because they should be able to win by margin based on their high free-throw rate and the aforementioned 3-point analysis. Utah has the second-highest free-throw rate in the NBA while Memphis has the fourth-lowest free-throw rate.

Moreover, I can count on the Jazz making key stops down the stretch whereas the Grizzlies can’t stop a nosebleed. Utah has the fifth-best defensive efficiency and Memphis ranks dead-last in defensive efficiency.

However, I only “LEAN” to the JAZZ +9.5 (-112) because the Over is my favorite bet in this contest.

Over/Under

BET 1 unit on the OVER 222.5 (-108) because both offenses should have success in this matchup.

For instance, Memphis has the fifth-worst pick-and-roll defensive efficiency vs. the ball handler, and Utah runs the third-highest frequency of pick-and-roll offense through the ball handler.

On top of that, the Grizzlies attempt the highest volume of short mid-range field goals per game, and the Jazz rank 20th in defensive field goal percentage vs. short mid-range jumpers (according to CleaningTheGlass.com).

Additionally, Memphis generates a ton of easy buckets through effort. For example, the Grizzlies are either first or second in fastbreak points, second-chance points and paint points per game. Conversely, the Jazz rank 19th or worse in fastbreak points, second-chance points and paint points allowed per game.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The 1-seed Utah Jazz and the 8-seed Memphis Grizzlies take to the hardwood Wednesday night for the second game of the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs. The Grizzlies hold a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is set to tip off Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET at Vivint Arena. Below, we analyze the Grizzlies-Jazz Game 2 odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 series lead with a 112-109 win on the road over the Jazz. SG Dillon Brooks led the way with 31 points and PG Ja Morant had 26.

The Jazz were without SG Donovan Mitchell in the loss. SF Bojan Bogdanovic led the way with 29 points. Utah, who led the league in three-point baskets and were fourth in three-point percentage, shot only 12-for-47 from long range.

Grizzlies at Jazz: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 123, Grizzlies 98

Money line (ML)

The Jazz are expected to get SG Donovan Mitchell back in the lineup, which should change their fortunes both on offense and defense. They suffered consecutive losses only three times all season, and their loss in Game 1 to Memphis was their first in four matchups this season. They swept the regular-season series.

However, PASS on the money line tonight. Across the playoffs, Game 2 has been less competitive for the favorites in the series and here having to wager four times what you can win doesn’t give you enough value. Look at the spread and the total.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

There have already been three Game 2 blowout wins by the home team in the playoffs. Both Utah and Memphis have been strong this year against the spread. The Jazz are 41-32 ATS this year and 23-14 ATS at home. The Grizzlies are 44-31 ATS and 24-14 ATS on the road.

With the return of Mitchell, Utah should be much better defensively. Even without him, the Jazz almost recovered in Game 1 from a 17-point deficit to lose by only three.

Take the JAZZ -9 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Game 1 went Over the projected total. Three of the four games between the two teams have gone Over and averaged 226.5 points.

Utah should score more than they did in Game 1 and they will give up fewer points but it will still be enough to take OVER 218.5 POINTS (-110).

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Memphis Grizzlies (21-21) remain on the road to play the Utah Jazz (33-11) for the second straight day Saturday with a 9 p.m. ET tip-off at Vivint Arena. Below, we analyze the Grizzlies-Jazz odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Memphis had a three-game win streak snapped by Utah in a 117-114 loss Thursday. The Grizzlies clawed back from a 21-point deficit to sneak in the backdoor and cover the spread as 10-point underdogs.

Utah won its fourth game in a row and is 6-2 straight up but only 3-5 against the spread since the All-Star break. The Jazz are pummeling foes at home with a plus-13.4-point margin of victory and winning 18 straight games in Utah.

Utah is 4-1 straight up and 3-2 ATS vs. Memphis since the Grizzlies drafted PG Ja Morant in 2019.

Grizzlies at Jazz: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 117, Jazz 113

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight lean toward Grizzlies (+350) because I like Memphis plus the points and it’s been tough for teams to beat opponents in back-to-back games; however, fading the Jazz at home this season would’ve depleted your bankroll.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME the GRIZZLIES +9.5 (-110) for 1.25 units.

Memphis has much better ball security than Utah, who is 20th in offensive turnover rate and has the lowest defensive turnover rate in the Association. The Grizzlies turn the ball over at the fifth-lowest rate and force the second-highest rate of turnovers.

The main area I could see some improvement for Memphis in this game would be the matchup between centers.

Jazz C Rudy Gobert outscored Grizzlies C Jonas Valančiūnas 25-14 and held him to 35.7% shooting, which is more of an outlier performance for Gobert when you look at the head-to-head history of the two.

Also, this is a Pros vs. Joes scenario in the betting market with more money coming in on Memphis but more bets have been placed on Utah, according to Pregame.com.

The money column is usually considered the sharp side of the market whereas the tickets column represents the average joe. Obviously, it’s better to roll with the sharps than Barney at the Bar.

BET GRIZZLIES +9.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a LEAN toward Over 227.5 (-110) because the scoring was a little top-heavy for both teams last night and I expect some of the role players to have better shooting days.

Also, there was a pretty good pace to yesterday’s game with the Grizzlies attempting 97 shots (averaging an NBA-high 92.1 field-goal attempts per game) and the Jazz put up 98 shots (averaging 88.3 field goal attempts per game).

There just isn’t enough margin between my predicted score and BetMGM‘s projected total for me to wager on it.

Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Utah Jazz (32-11) host the Memphis Grizzlies (21-20) Friday at the Vivint Smart Home Arena for a 9 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Grizzlies-Jazz odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Memphis has won three in a row and four of its last five games (4-1 ATS) including a 116-107 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder as a 7-point road favorite.

Utah has also won three straight with two straight 25-plus-point blowouts against the Brooklyn Nets without their Big 3 Wednesday and at the Chicago Bulls Monday.

The Jazz won three of four meetings last regular season against the Grizzlies including three straight and were 3-1 ATS in those contests.

Grizzlies at Jazz: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 118, Grizzlies 113

Money line (ML)

PASS with a lean toward Grizzlies (+350) because I like Memphis plus the points but the Jazz (-450) haven’t lost at home in 2021. That’s right, Utah has a 17-game home winning streak and I’m not fading that trend.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME 1 unit on GRIZZLIES +9.5 (-110) for a few reasons.

First, the Jazz don’t force a lot of turnovers (dead-last in defensive turnover rate), are ranked 21st in offensive turnover percentage and, this month, Utah is 25th in points off of turnovers allowed per game.

The Grizzlies thrive off of turnovers: Memphis forces the 2nd-highest rate of turnovers and scores the most points off of turnovers per game.

Second, Grizzlies big Jonas Valančiūnas has outplayed Jazz big Rudy Gobert when they’ve gone head-to-head.

In 16 career meetings, Valančiūnas’ team is 11-5 overall and he’s shooting better from the floor and averaging 3.3 more points per game than Gobert.

Finally, let’s get on the same side as the House since that’s who usually wins in gambling.

According to Pregame.com, nearly 80% of the bets placed have been on the Jazz minus points yet bookmakers are making Utah cheaper, which tells me they want people to take the Jazz.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 228.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit because both teams should have success on offense.

I’ve already outlined Memphis’s path to getting buckets while the Jazz are 4th in effective field goal shooting (eFG%) and the Grizzlies are 20th in defensive eFG%.
