Gritty dancing with the famous Philadelphia emotional support alligator is oddly satisfying

This is a 10-out-of-10 production. Five stars. Highly recommend.

Gritty dancing with an emotional support alligator is the crossover we never knew we needed.

In September, a Philadephia Phillies fan tried to bring his emotional support alligator to a Phillies-Pirates game. There’s not exactly a dedicated space for alligators, but the fan figured he would bring Wally Gator, as he’s appropriately named, anyway.

Citizens Bank Park said absolutely not and sent the fan and his gator friend home. But, by gosh, all is not lost.

The same courageous fan showed up at a Philadelphia Flyers game recently, and things quickly got out of hand in the best way possible.

A video posted by Haley Simon of 97.5 The Fanatic shows Gritty hilariously dancing (and swirling?) beside the animal in a collaboration I did not expect to enjoy so much. Wally Gator looks completely unamused, but Gritty is loving it.

This is a 10-out-of-10 production. Five stars. Highly recommend.

Gritty tweets that the NHL draft lottery is rigged after the Flyers drop down a spot

Gritty has spoken!

I think Gritty speaks for all Philadelphia Flyers fans here after the NHL draft lottery.

Tuesday marked the NHL’s draft lottery, when the lottery balls decide the fate of where the teams pick for the upcoming entry draft. This year, the Montreal Canadiens will have the No. 1 overall pick after coming into the day with the best odds. And yet, there was one surprise in the mix with the New Jersey Devils jumping from fifth to draft at the No. 2 spot.

As the Devils jumped up, the Flyers dropped down, with the team’s fourth-best odds not enough to get them into a top spot as Philadelphia slid to No. 5 overall thanks to New Jersey winning the second spot. And Gritty was having none of it.

Gritty has officially spoken, folks! The NHL draft lottery was legitimately, absolutely, 100 percent rigged. You heard it here first!

The Philadelphia Stars’ new ‘Blob’ mascot is just Dollar Tree Gritty

I know the Stars haven’t played yet but can we change the mascot now anyway?

You’d be hard-pressed to find a mascot more deplorable than Gritty in the pantheon of mascots from across the sports world.

I mean, just go look at that dude really quickly. It’s fine — you can stop reading for one second to go do it. OK, back? Good. Now, wasn’t that awful? Why would anyone make a mascot that looks like that?

What were the Flyers thinking? Shoutout to them as a hockey team and an organization, but the mascot looks like what would happen if you took the Philly Fanatic, painted it orange and told it not to bathe for a few months.

Basically, what I’m saying is that Gritty is a musty, orange version of the Phanatic. And I’m questioning why on Earth anyone would want to make that their mascot?

Great Halloween costume, of course. And Gritty is also an icon in Philly at this point.  But y’all. If we’re calling a spade a spade here, Gritty is horrifying. Straight up.

Clearly, this is a Philly mascot thing. Because as horrifying as the Philly Phanatic and Gritty are, the city’s USFL team is trying to double down on the terror with a shaved, Dollar Tree version of Gritty with horns.

The Philadelphia Stars of the USFL just debuted their new mascot called “Blob.” Yes, that’s right. Blob. Which was apparently the winner in the Stars’ contest for a mascot name. Well done, Philly. Well done.

Here’s what Blob looks like.

Yes, that’s right. This is Blob. Basically, a chilled-out version of Gritty. He still looks very horrifying, sure. But it’s like this is what it’d look like if Gritty shaved and took some melatonin.

This is definitely the Gritty vibe, though. Again, a Dollar Tree version? Sure. But the vibe is the vibe. And it’s still pretty horrifying.

To the rest of us, anyway. Philly sports fans? They love this dude already and the Stars haven’t played a down yet.

A hockey fan created an incredible anime-style opening for everyone’s favorite mascot Gritty

Gritty would make a great anime protagonist.

Who knew Gritty and anime would go so well together?

That premise is what one hockey fan put to the test by creating an entire anime intro for the beloved Philadelphia Flyers mascot. On Monday, Twitter user, designer, and animator Jed-Angelo Q. Segovia posted a two minute anime intro for Gritty in the style of One Punch Man‘s first opening “The Hero!!”.

Not only did Segovia animate the entire video, he had help from Flyers fans and general hockey fandom in creating the music and the vocals used as well!

Of course, as Gritty famously spends a lot of time on the internet, the video drew the attention of the Flyers mascot on Twitter mere hours after it was posted

The amount of work put into this fan animation is astounding. The animation itself is awesome, looking equal parts fierce and silly, as Gritty keeps his trademark humor. I also love the shoutouts to other Pennsylvania and Philadelphia sports teams as well, with the Philly Phanatic, the Nittany Lion, Iceburgh, Swoop, Franklin, and even Phang have prominent moments alongside other NHL mascots.

Oh, and of course, the reference to the Flyers’ short-lived mascot Slapshot didn’t go unnoticed here either.

Just a phenomenal job all around by Segovia and the rest of the folks that worked on this. What a wonderful celebration of anime and Gritty!!

Watch the Fab Five try to give Gritty a makeover on a very silly ‘Queer Eye’ special

Fab Five + Gritty = GOLD.

Gritty is perfect the way he is, with his wild eyes, long orange hair and permanent crazed expression that we see when he’s dumping popcorn on fans, celebrating his birthday or breaking stuff.

That didn’t stop the Fab Five from Netflix’s Queer Eye from trying to give him a makeover — with a little help from his pal, the Philly Phanatic — complete with him trying new threads, getting a renovated locker, and of course, scarfing cheesesteaks.

And in the end, the lesson is: Gritty is awesome just the way he is.

Watch this very silly but sweet video Netflix dropped on Tuesday:

WATCH: Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot Gritty cleared of assault allegations

Gritty, the googly-eyed mascot for the Philadelphia Flyers, has been cleared of an assault allegation levied against him (err, it?) by a season-ticket holder.

Gritty, the googly-eyed mascot for the Philadelphia Flyers, has been cleared of an assault allegation levied against him (err, it?) by a season-ticket holder.

The Philadelphia Police Department shared on Monday that its investigation into the mascot has closed and that “the actions of the individual portraying the Flyers’ mascot did not constitute physical assault as alleged.”

Chris Greenwell, a Flyers season-ticket holder, filed a police report in December claiming that his son’s interaction with Gritty at a meet-and-greet-event in November left him with a bruise on his back.

Greenwell said that his 13-year-old son “playfully patted” Gritty on the head and that the mascot responded by punching the boy “as hard as he could.”

The Flyers released a brief statement on Monday:

‘Only Gritty is above the law’ becomes Philadelphia rallying cry for Trump impeachment

Flyers mascot Gritty has become a symbol for the Philadelphia left.

President Donald Trump will most likely be impeached by the United States House of Representatives today, following an investigation that found he pressured the Ukrainian government to investigate the son of one of his political rivals, Joe Biden.

From there the impeachment case will go to the Senate, where the Republican majority will most likely vote to acquit. On and on we go.

HOWEVER, there have still been rallies around the country in support of impeachment, including one this week in Philadelphia. There, we saw signs for what has become a rallying cry for the Philadelphia left: “Only Gritty is above the law.”

Gritty, the Flyers mascots, has become an instant folk hero in the city of Philadelphia, and somehow also become a symbol of the anti-fascist movement? (Read the Daily Beast story, because I can’t summarize how this all happened.)

This isn’t exactly a new thing. “Only Gritty is above the law” has been a rallying cry for a while now, with t-shirts being printed already, and the sign showing up at more than a few protests over the last few months.
