Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll updated the status of several injured players, including linebacker Brian Burns, who he said would not practice for the second straight day but could suit up come Sunday.

“Should be ready to go for the game,” he said of Burns.

Daboll was also optimistic that quarterback Tommy DeVito, who remains in concussion protocol, would serve as QB2 against the Falcons.

“I think he’ll be available,” he said.

Meanwhile, quarterback Drew Lock, who is dealing with heel and elbow issues, made it through Wednesday’s practice okay and remains the projected starter on Sunday.

Giants list an astonishing 21 players on injury report

The New York Giants listed an astonishing 21 players on their Wednesday injury report, including linebackers Brian Burns and Bobby Okereke.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for a Week 16 game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Before taking the field, head coach Brian Daboll stepped up to the podium and spoke with reporters.

Two days after lacking clarity on the quarterback situation, Daboll revealed that Drew Lock is expected to start on Sunday barring a setback. He also expects Tommy DeVito to clear concussion protocol and serve as QB3.

“Drew should be okay,” Daboll told reporters. “(DeVito) moving through the protocol. He’ll do something today. I envision him being — I mean, who knows with concussions, but he’ll have a chance. If he is, he’ll be number two.”

Tim Boyle, who took over in Week 15, will fill the role of emergency third quarterback.

Giants place Tre Hawkins on IR, sign four to practice squad

The New York Giants have placed CB Tre Hawkins on injured reserve, signed four to the practice squad, and made several other transactions.

As anticipated, the New York Giants made a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday after suffering a glut of injuries in Sunday’s 14-11 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Cornerback Tre Hawkins, who had a breakout performance in Week 14, was placed on injured reserve (IR) with a fractured lumbar spine. Although the injury will end his season, it does not require surgery.

The Giants also placed center Jimmy Morrissey on practice squad IR.

With Hawkins on IR, cornerback Greg Stroman, who was elevated against the Saints, was signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Finally, to fill out the reserve unit, the Giants added four players to the practice squad—two veteran signings and two standard signings.

Quarterback Tim Boyle, as expected, was re-signed. Also added were defensive lineman Ross Blacklock, and cornerbacks Ekow Boye-Doe and Azizi Hearn.

Blacklock was originally a second-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2020 NFL draft. However, he quickly became a journeyman, making stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans.

In 44 career games, the 26-year-old Blacklock has recorded 40 tackles (27 solo, five for a loss), one forced fumble, two passes defensed, nine QB hits, and 3.0 sacks.

Boye-Doe and Hearn have little to no regular season experience.

Giants place D.J. Davidson on IR in flurry of roster moves

The New York Giants made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday, including to placement of DL D.J. Davidson on injured reserve (IR).

The New York Giants made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday afternoon before a Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium.

Defensive tackle D.J. Davidson (shoulder) being placed on injured reserve (IR) was the most notable. He had been listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game.

In 12 games this season, Davidson has recorded 23 tackles (12 solo, one for a loss), two fumble recoveries, two QB hits, and 2.0 sacks.

The Giants also waived quarterback Tim Boyle, leaving them with just Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito this week. He is likely to sign back to their practice squad.

In corresponding roster moves, New York signed defensive linemen Elijah Garcia and Casey Rogers from their practice squad to the active roster.

Finally, the team elevated offensive lineman Tyre Phillips and cornerback Greg Stroman from the reserve unit. It’s the first elevation for Phillips and the third for Stroman, who has none remaining.

If the Giants want to use Stroman again, he’ll have to be signed to the 53-man roster.

Giants sign Tomon Fox to active roster, place Armon Watts on IR

The New York Giants have made several roster moves, including the addition of LB Tomon Fox to their active roster.

The New York Giants made several roster moves ahead of their Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, including the addition of linebacker Tomon Fox to their 53-man roster.

Fox was waived last Saturday, re-signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, and then added to the active roster on Wednesday. He had no elevations remaining, so the Giants could only use him by returning him to the main roster.

In five games this season, Fox has recorded seven tackles (four solo, one for a loss), two QB hits, and one sack.

In a corresponding roster move, the Giants placed defensive tackle Armon Watts on injured reserve (IR) with a shoulder issue. He is likely done for the season.

Finally, the Giants elevated offensive tackle Joshua Miles and cornerback Greg Stroman from their practice squad.

For both Miles and Stroman, this is their first standard elevation. They each have two remaining.

Giants sign CB Greg Stroman to practice squad, release three

The New York Giants signed two players to their practice squad on Tuesday and released three, one with an injury settlement.

The New York Giants made several changes to their practice squad on Tuesday, including the signing of return specialist Kearis Jackson — a move that had been reported a day earlier.

In addition to Jackson, the Giants also signed cornerback Greg Stroman to their reserve unit.

The 28-year-old Stroman was originally a seventh-round pick of the Washington Commanders in the 2018 NFL draft. After three years in D.C., Stroman split time between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams in 2021 before joining the Chicago Bears, where he’s spent the past two seasons.

In 29 career games (five starts), the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Stroman has recorded 65 tackles (47 solo, three for a loss), two QB hits, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, six passes defensed, and three interceptions.

Stroman also has limited special teams experience, returning 10 punts for 25 yards and six kickoffs for 110 yards.

In order to clear room for Jackson and Stroman, the Giants terminated the practice squad contracts of safety Alex Johnson and tight end Joel Wilson.

The team also announced that tight end Lawrence Cager was terminated from the practice squad with an injury settlement.

Giants worked out veteran QB C.J. Beathard, seven others

The New York Giants worked out several free agents on Monday, including veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard.

The New York Giants held private workouts in East Rutherford on Monday which will lead to the signing of return specialist Kearis Jackson.

However, Jackson was not the only free agent in town.

The Giants also hosted quarterback C.J. Beathard, defensive backs Lamar Jackson and Greg Stroman, and wide receivers Joseph Ngata, Joseph Scates, Bryan Thompson and Seth Williams.

Of the group, Beathard’s name looms largest simply because he’s a quarterback. However, it’s unnecessary to read much into that because the Giants hold weekly workouts featuring a number of positions in order to gather data and prepare for potential free agent needs down the line.

The 30-year-old Beathard was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2017 NFL draft. He remained in the Bay Area through the 2020 season before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played the past three years.

In 32 career games (13 starts), Beathard has completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 3,886 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He’s compiled a 3-10 record.

With Daniel Jones and Drew Lock on the active roster and Tommy DeVito on the practice squad, there’s no room for or reason to sign Beathard now. But should there be an injury later in the season, head coach Brian Daboll & Co. now have the information they need on Beathard.

Do not be surprised if the Giants work out more quarterbacks in the coming weeks.

10 takeaways from the Bears’ exciting win over the Commanders

From DJ Moore’s killer mentality to Greg Stroman’s big plays, here are our takeaways from the Bears win over Washington.

Our long national nightmare has finally come to an end. The Chicago Bears have won a football game for the first time in 346 days, beating the Washington Commanders 40-20 in prime time to kick off Week 5. Chicago sprinted out of the gates by demanding the ball to start the game and going down to score with ease. They were led by quarterback Justin Fields and DJ Moore, who had himself a career day, to drop 40 points on Washington, the most they scored in nearly three years.

The Commanders offense struggled early and didn’t find their groove until the second half. Though it got too close for comfort at times, they never overtook the lead from the Bears, and Chicago finally got the monkey off their back. A mini-bye week is up next to recover as they look ahead to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6 to potentially start a winning streak, their first one in two years.

But before we look ahead, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ win over Washington.

3 takeaways from the Bears’ Week 18 loss to the Vikings

The Bears lost their 624th game of all time and it might be the biggest one in team history. Here are our takeaways from Bears vs. Vikings.

The 2022 regular season has mercifully come to an end for the Chicago Bears, and it featured one more loss that had significant ramifications. The Bears fell 29-13 to the Minnesota Vikings, losing their 10th game in a row. But this loss, coupled with a win by the Houston Texans, gave the Bears the top selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

As far as the actual game goes, the Bears pulled out all the stops to ensure they wouldn’t win. Justin Fields was out due to a hip injury, so head coach Matt Eberflus rolled with two quarterbacks. Nathan Peterman got the start and Tim Boyle shuffled in throughout the day. Neither was particularly effective, but it didn’t matter as the defense was carved up by the Vikings starters before they exited the game to rest up for the postseason.

With the final loss of the season, the Bears finish 3-14 but have numerous possibilities that await this offseason. Here are our takeaways from Sunday’s game.

Report: Bills fill practice squad with CB Greg Stroman

Report: #Bills fill practice squad with CB Greg Stroman:

The Buffalo Bills only briefly had a vacant spot on their practice squad. The team took only one day to reportedly fill it.

According to ESPN in Washington, former Football Team cornerback Greg Stroman was signed to Buffalo’s practice squad on Wednesday.

One day prior, the Bills (7-4) had a spot opened up on their practice squad by the New York Giants.

Due to a neck injury to quarterback Daniel Jones, the Giants needed some depth. They dubbed now-former Buffalo QB Jake Fromm as the ticket to that as he was signed by New York.

Stroman’s addition also comes following cornerback Tre’Davious White’s season-ending knee injury last week. Buffalo added another corner, Tim Harris, to their practice squad for depth as well earlier this week.

Stroman was a seventh-round pick out of the University of Virginia in 2018. He was teammates with current Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds there.

As a rookie, Stroman played in 15 games but injuries derailed him the ensuing two seasons. During training camp, Stroman was cut by Washington.

Stroman also has experience as a returner.
