Browns place Ethan Pocic on Injured Reserve, sign another center

The Cleveland Browns have placed center Ethan Pocic on Injured Reserve and signed another center to take his spot on the active roster.

The Cleveland Browns have made a couple of moves in their center room following the injury to their starter. Placing Ethan Pocic on Injured Reserve after he left on the first drive of the game with a knee injury, the Browns have filled his roster spot with the signing of Greg Mancz.

By being placed on IR, Pocic must miss a minimum of four games before he is eligible to be designated for return to the active roster. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has already stated that Hjalte Froholdt will continue to start in his absence at the center position.

Mancz is an eight-year pro out of the University of Toledo who has started 32 games in his career. He has made appearances with the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills in that span.

Injury update: Greg Mancz left Bills practice on cart

Injury update: Greg Mancz leaves #Bills practice on cart:

Update (11:26 a.m.): Mancz has avoided serious injury. Per Bills general manager Brandon Beane on Tuesday, he has not been ruled out of the team’s preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers.

Previous coverage:

The Buffalo Bills suffered an injury along their offensive line on Tuesday. The player spotlighted is Greg Mancz.

According to multiple reports including The Athletic from Bills practice on Monday, Mancz left the workout early. He required assistance leaving the field as he was spotted on a cart with a trainer potentially nursing a foot injury:

Reading between the lines, Mancz being in the passenger seat of the cart instead of on the back is a good sign.

The team has yet to provide updates on Mancz. Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott spoke via press conference prior to the workout and the Bills did not provide further updates following the workout.

Mancz has lined up as a top backup option for Buffalo on the interior of their offensive line throughout training camp and the preseason. With his position versatility to play at center and guard, Mancz has a strong chance to make the team’s final 53-man roster.

That also increased when the Bills decided to trade lineman Cody Ford to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. Ford, like Mancz, was a depth option at guard prior to being dealt.

Early in training camp Buffalo had a rash of injuries along their offensive line. In recent weeks players such as Rodger Saffold and Spencer Brown have since returned to the field.

Bills Wire will provide Mancz updates as they are made available.

Buffalo Bills sign OL Greg Mancz

#Bills sign OL Greg Mancz:

The Buffalo Bills offensive line has had a depth addition made.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Bills have signed lineman Greg Mancz to a one-year deal. The team has yet to officially announce the transaction.

Most recently, Mancz suited up for the Miami Dolphins in 2021 after the Baltimore Ravens traded him there in August.

In 2015, the 29-year-old went undrafted out of the University of Toledo. He signed with the Houston Texans and played there through the 2020 season before first latching on with the Ravens.

In only one season, 2016, did Mancz see starting snaps and played in all 16 games.

Mancz profiles as a potential depth piece on Buffalo’s offensive line.

The Bills are in danger of losing restricted free agent Ryan Bates currently. Buffalo tendered the RFA, however, he has taken visits with at least two teams (Vikings, Patriots) over the past week.

If one of those teams signs Bates, the Bills can match that offer.

Last year in Miami, Mancz made five starts. Pro Football Focus graded Mancz an average mark of 61.9 overall.

Former Dolphins C Greg Mancz signs with Bills

Miami will need to find another center now.

It’s been an active week for the Miami Dolphins, as they’ve brought in and retained a number of free agents to get their roster ready for 2022 and beyond.

On Tuesday, however, Miami lost their second free agent this offseason, as center Greg Mancz agreed to a deal with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN’ Dan Graziano. The other free agent the Dolphins lost was Mack Hollins, who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mancz, 29, was traded to the Dolphins from the Baltimore Ravens, along with a seventh-round pick, for a sixth-round pick. He served as the backup center until Michael Dieter went down, forcing Mancz to step up.

The former Toledo Rocket started four games but suffered an injury of his own, that pushed Austin Reiter into the starting job.

At this point, the Dolphins only have Dieter for center options, so they’ll likely need to add another through free agency or the draft.

Dolphins expect 5 players back from COVID list on Wednesday

The COVID list would stand at eight players.

The Miami Dolphins have had their fair share of COVID-19 issues in the last few weeks, but they got some good news on Wednesday.

During his media availability, head coach Brian Flores announced that cornerback Justin Coleman, linebacker Duker Riley, center Greg Mancz, guard Robert Jones, and tight end Cethan Carter would all return from the reserve/COVID list.

All five guys missed last week’s game against the Saints. Miami was able to make it through, but it would be nice to have as many guys available as possible.

If no one goes on the COVID list later today, the Dolphins will have eight players on the list including safety Brandon Jones, wide receiver Albert Wilson, wide receiver Preston Williams, defensive tackle John Jenkins, guard Solomon Kindley, practice squad guard Durval Queiroz Neto, wide receiver Allen Hurns (IR), and wide receiver Lynn Bowden Jr. (IR).

Dolphins place three players on the COVID list Thursday

The Dolphins are up to 11 players placed on the COVID list in the last two weeks.

COVID-19 has continued to work its way around the Miami Dolphins locker room.

On Thursday, the team announced that center Greg Mancz, tight end Cethan Carter, and linebacker Duke Riley have all been placed on the reserve/COVID list.

Mancz has been a backup center for most of the season, but he spent a few weeks on injured reserve. The team waived center Austin Reiter just over a week ago, so they’re stuck with just practice squad center Cameron Tom as a backup.

Riley has been a rotational linebacker and special teams guy this season. This may mean more opportunities for a guy like Sam Eguavoen if Riley can’t go.

Carter has played just 47 snaps on offense this year, bringing in two receptions for 16 yards, so the only thing they will have to worry about is his role on special teams.

These three join cornerback Justin Coleman, guard Robert Jones, and practice squad running back Gerrid Doaks on the reserve/COVID list. Since the first player tested positive just under two weeks ago, Miami has placed 11 players on the list in total.

Dolphins activate S Jevon Holland from COVID list and C Greg Mancz from IR

The safety is listed as questionable.

The Dolphins are getting back a starter and a backup before Sunday’s game against the Jets. The team has activated safety Jevon Holland off the reserve/COVID-19 list and center Greg Mancz from injured reserve, allowing them to play in Week 15.

Holland has become an integral part of the defense in such a short time, recording 51 tackles, six quarterback hits, and two interceptions in 13 games. He’s also forced two fumbles and recovered three, sacking the quarterback twice as a rookie this season.

The team has noted that he’ll be listed as questionable this week with an illness, but he’s cleared the COVID-19 protocol.

Mancz has been on injured reserve since early November when he went down with an ankle injury in the first half of Miami’s game against Houston. Starting center Michael Deiter is back now, so Mancz will go back to his backup duties until he’s called upon. It’s just nice to know that there’s depth at the position again.

Jaylen Waddle and Phillip Lindsay did not clear the league’s COVID-19 protocol before the Saturday deadline, so they will both miss this game and should be able to return before the team’s Week 16 matchup with the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

Report: Dolphins are waiving backup center Austin Reiter

This seems like good news about Greg Mancz.

While the Dolphins haven’t had a lot of good news in recent days, it does seem they’re starting to get healthy at the center spot, as Michael Deiter has already returned and Greg Mancz is just about ready to come back.

With this, Miami doesn’t have a ton of need for another center on the active roster, so the Dolphins are releasing Austin Reiter, according to Aaron Wilson. Ari Meirov of PFF was the first to report it.

Reiter originally signed with the Dolphins back in October after Deiter went down with his injury. He was supposed to back up Mancz, but then Mancz went down, and Reiter was thrust into the starting role.

With everyone getting back and healthy, the Dolphins will give Reiter a chance to sign with another team, and if he isn’t grabbed right away, he could find his way back on their practice squad.

Brian Flores says DeVante Parker and Greg Mancz will return to practice

Will Fuller will not be at practice Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins got some good news Wednesday morning before they went out to practice.

At his media availability, head coach Brian Flores announced that wide receiver DeVante Parker and center Greg Mancz would be participating in practice. Parker and Mancz have been on injured reserve, so this will begin their 21-day activation clock, meaning that the Dolphins have 21 days to activate them, or they will be forced to miss the remainder of the season.

Adding Parker back to this offense should take some of the pressure off of Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki, giving Tua Tagovailoa more options to throw to.

With Michael Deiter returning to practice last week, Greg Mancz could come back in and fill in that backup role again. This would make Cameron Tom a candidate to be moved back to the practice squad if he can pass through waivers.

Flores did also say that Will Fuller would not be returning to practice just yet as he recovers from this finger injury.

Dolphins place Greg Mancz on IR, sign Cameron Tom to active roster

The Dolphins are down to their third center.

After nine weeks, the Miami Dolphins are officially down to their third center as the team announced Wednesday that they were placing Greg Mancz on injured reserve.

Mancz went down in the first half of the game against Houston with an ankle injury and never returned. He will now need to miss at least three weeks with the designation.

Austin Reiter has stepped in for Mancz and has looked serviceable. In his 208 snaps, he’s earned a PFF grade of 58 but a 66.1 in pass blocking. He’s an experienced center who should be able to hold his own in most matchups.

In the same announcement, the Dolphins stated that they would be signing center Cameron Tom to their active roster from the practice squad. In his fifth season, Tom has played in just 12 career games and has started only one.

His last game action came in Week 12 of 2020 when he played just three snaps for the Saints in a win over the Broncos. However, he’s been with the Dolphins since February, so he should be familiar with their system.
