Steelers snag RB Godwin Igwebuike off Falcons practice squad

The Steelers signed running back Godwin Igwebuike off of the Falcons practice squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed running back Godwin Igwebuike off of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad on Wednesday afternoon.

Igwebuike was elevated for the Falcons’ Week 2 win over the Packers, but since he was still on the practice squad, the Steelers were allowed to sign him to their active roster.

With a practice squad spot available, Atlanta brought back running back Carlos Washington Jr. to fill the final vacancy.

The Falcons signed linebacker Milo Eifler to their practice squad and released wide receiver Mathew Sexton on Tuesday.

Have a look at the team’s updated 53-man roster, practice squad and depth chart heading into Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Former Seahawks RB Godwin Igwebuike signing w/ Falcons

Godwin Igwebuike is leaving the Emerald City for the Big Peach

A former Seattle Seahawk has found a new NFL home. Journeyman running back Godwin Igwebuike is leaving the Emerald City for the Big Peach to play for the Falcons, as reported by Jordan Schultz.

Igwebuike has been around the NFL plenty. In his short career, he has been in the organizations of Tampa Bay, San Francisco, Philadelphia, the New York Jets, Detroit, Seattle, and the XFL SeaDragons.

In 2022, he spent most of the season on the Seahawks’ practice team, but was called up later in the season when injuries started to take a toll on Seattle’s running back stable. Igwebuike made his mark in Week 14 during a 30-24 home loss to the Panthers, where he had 104 return yards, including one for 50 yards which set up a Seahawks touchdown drive.

Igwebuike gave Seattle’s lackluster return game a much-needed jolt of life, and was a highlight in the last portion of the season. Here’s hoping to his success with the Falcons.

8 more free agents the Seahawks should re-sign after Geno Smith

Here are the eight next most important players for Seattle to keep this year.

The Seahawks checked the most important box on their offseason to-do list yesterday, re-signing Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith to a bargain of a three-year, $105 million deal. They have also previously taken care of their outstanding kicker Jason Myers, their underrated swing guard Phil Haynes and their super-popular fullback, linebacker, special teams stud and premier entertainer Nick Bellore.

Aside from those four, who else is worth keeping that is set to hit the market on March 15 when the new league year begins? Let’s break it down. Here are the eight next most important players for Seattle to keep this year.

Seahawks RBs Godwin Igwebuike, Wayne Gallman elevated from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks elevated running backs Godwin Igwebuike and Wayne Gallman from the practice squad ahead of Week 16 against the Chiefs.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of moves on Friday afternoon that will hopefully add a little depth to the run game. Running backs Godwin Igwebuike and Wayne Gallman have been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 16 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With running backs Kenneth Walker III and DeeJay Dallas both listed as questionable to play with ankle injuries, providing more support at the position is the best way to play it safe.

Igwebuike, who has now been promoted for the third week in a row, has been handling the team’s kick-return duties as well.  If Gallman makes an appearance on Saturday, it would be his Seahawks debut.

The Seahawks and Chiefs are set to kick off Saturday morning –  Christmas Eve –  at 10 a.m. PT.

Seahawks: Updated 53-man roster going into Week 15

Here’s the updated 53-man roster by jersey number going into Week 15.

Working on a short week, the Seahawks didn’t have the time to add any new faces to the roster. Instead, they have elevated RB/KR Godwin Igwebuike from the practice squad for the second straight game. Meanwhile, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker Vi Jones will remain on the practice squad for now as they are both out of elevations.

Seahawks elevate RB/KR Godwin Igwebuike from practice squad again

For the second straight week, running back Godwin Igwebuike has been elevated from the practice squad.

The Seahawks have announced one roster move ahead of tonight’s crucial matchup with the 49ers.

For the second straight week, running back Godwin Igwebuike has been elevated from the practice squad.

Igwebuike made his Seattle debut last week against the Panthers and was one of only a handful of bright spots. He gave a shot in the arm to a return game that’s made very few splash plays this season. Igwebuike returned three kickoffs against Carolina, beginning with a 50-yarder. He totaled 104 yards in all, averaging 34.7 per attempt.

That’s the best the Seahawks’ return game has looked in a long time, so he’ll be given another championship opportunity tonight. By comparison, Deejay Dallas has averaged 22.5 yards per attempt this year.

Igwebuike will be out of practice squad elevations after this, so Seattle will need to cut somebody from the 53-man roster next week if they want to give him the KRO job long-term.

Pete Carroll: Godwin Igwebuike was a ‘real surprise for us’

If veteran RB Godwin Igwebuike can give the Seahawks a more defined return man, perhaps he will find a permanent home in Seattle.

The Seahawks suffered yet another brutal home loss, this time to the Carolina Panthers. It was a day where hardly anything went right for Seattle, and it cost the Seahawks dearly.

However, there seemed to be an unexpected discovery on Sunday that ended up being one of the lone bright spots.

With Kenneth Walker and DeeJay Dallas both inactive, the Seahawks had to make some roster moves to bolster their ailing running back stable. One move was elevating journeyman running back Godwin Igwebuike from the practice squad to make his Seattle debut.

Igwebuike rewarded his new team as he made an immediate impact in the return game. He had three returns for 104 yards, including one for 50 yards. Igwebuike’s big return set Seattle up at Carolina’s 46-yard line and helped set up a touchdown drive to make the score 20-14 right before the half.

When asked if Igwebuike will be featured more in this position moving forward, coach Pete Carroll was quick to affirm.

“Yes,” exclaimed Carroll. “Yeah, he did great. I thought he was a real surprise for us today to pop up like that, and he did great at it. Tough, fast, explosive.”

Igwebuike has bounced around the league his entire career, having short stints with the Buccaneers, 49ers, Eagles, Jets, Lions, and even Seattle’s XFL team, the Dragons. If Igwebuike can keep this up and give Seattle a more defined return man, perhaps he will find a more permanent NFL home.
