10 defensive coordinator candidates the Eagles could target if Sean Desai-Matt Patricia depart

With exit interviews set to begin, we’re looking at ten candidates who could replace Sean Desai and Matt Patricia if they depart.

Nick Sirianni officially has his coaching tree after the Cardinals hired Jonathan Gannon and the Colts hired Shane Steichen in the 2023 coaching carousel.

Sirianni rightfully gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ success.

Still, after a late-season meltdown that saw the Eagles go 1-6 in their final seven games, including the playoffs, the head coach and his assistant coaches could be on the hot seat.

Philadelphia’s third-year head coach has far exceeded expectations, but it’s clear that Gannon and Steichen played far more prominent roles than we thought.

With exit interviews set to begin, we’re looking at ten candidates who could replace Sean Desai and Matt Patricia if they depart.

UGA assistant named as Washington head coach candidate

Key Georgia football defensive assistant named as candidate to become the head coach at Washington

Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann has been named a potential candidate to fill the vacant head coaching role for the Washington Huskies. Schumann, who also serves as the inside linebackers coach at Georgia, is a young coach that surprisingly did not receive much interest for a head coach job this offseason. That suits Kirby Smart and Georgia just fine.

Schumann is a great recruiter and would help Washington compete as the Huskies move to the Big Ten. Washington’s previous head coach, Kalen DeBoer, is now the head coach at Alabama after leading the Huskies to the national championship in 2023. DeBoer takes over after Nick Saban announced his retirement.

College Sports Wire named Schumann a candidate to be the head coach at Washington.

Glenn Schumann is an up-and-coming star in the coaching ranks. For the last decade-plus, he has coached under both Nick Saban and Kirby Smart. He began as a student assistant with the Crimson Tide in 2008 and became a graduate assistant in 2011. Schumman followed Smart to Georgia where he coached inside linebackers and was elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2019. He has been part of a coaching staff that has won six national championships. Perhaps the Huskies should take a chance on a young coach ready to run his own program.

Georgia certainly does not want Schumann to leave. The Bulldogs could live with Schumann becoming the head coach for another top Power Five school. However, Georgia’s nightmare scenario would be if Alabama lured Schumann to be their defensive coordinator.

Washington would be following in the footsteps of Oregon, which hired former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, if they hired UGA’s Schumann.

Here are five Texas A&M head coach candidates to replace Jimbo Fisher

Here are the five head coach candidates to take over at Texas A&M after Jimbo Fisher was officially let go on Sunday, Nov. 12.

As of Sunday, Nov. 12, Texas A&M has officially fired head coach Jimbo Fisher after six seasons at the helm, finishing with a 45-25 record, including a dismal 27-21 SEC record. As a shock to many, TexAgs’ Billy Liucci announced the move on Sunday morning, just three days after the Board of Regents met last Thursday.

Taking over in the interim role, long-time associate head coach Elijah Robinson will fill said role, and honestly, there couldn’t have been a better short-term option. So, with the news hitting us in the face less than 24 hours after the Aggie’s 51-10 win over Mississippi State, it’s time to look toward the future.

With plenty of coaching options paired with the fact that Texas A&M is willing to pay Fisher’s over $76.8 million buyout to move on, money is no issue during the head coaching search.

While every fan and media member on the planet has their list, the Aggies likely have their man in mind, but nevertheless, I have my realistic options. Here are five Texas A&M head coach candidates to replace Jimbo Fisher.

What can Eagles’ DC Sean Desai incorporate from Kirby Smart’s defensive scheme at Georgia?

Philadelphia defensive coordinator Sean Desai wants a tough, physical defensive scheme and we’re looking at what the Eagles can incorporate from Kirby Smart’s defensive scheme at Georgia?

Philadelphia has a new defensive coordinator in Sean Desai, and he’ll debut with five former Georgia Bulldogs defenders along for the ride.

The defense belongs to Kirby Smart in Athens, Georgia, but Glenn Schumann has come aboard and taken the Bulldogs’ program to another level.

Since following Smart from Alabama to Georgia following the 2015 season at 25, Schumann has built himself up from an off-the-field administrative role for the Crimson Tide to one of the hottest coaching candidates in America.

During his first seven seasons on staff, Schumann has helped develop two Butkus Award-winners and one of the most excellent defenses in college football history, that’s on a current two-year run of dominance.

Schumann helped develop 2017 Butkus Award winner Roquan Smith, 2020 Butkus Award finalist Monty Rice and 2021 Butkus Award winner Nakobe Dean.

The Bulldogs’ defense has finished second, second, and third nationally in total defense over the past three seasons while leading the nation in rushing defense in 2019 and 2020 before finishing second in 2021.

Howie Roseman has added five National Champion defenders to the roster over the past two drafts.

We’re looking for ways new defensive coordinator Sean Desai can incorporate some of what Schumann had success with into the Eagles’ defensive scheme.

Georgia DCs Will Muschamp, Glenn Schumann ranked No. 4 among top CFB coordinators

Muschamp & Schumann are listed among the top DCs in CFB

Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top defensive coordinators in college football with Georgia’s duo of Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann coming in at No. 4 on the list.

“Eight players from Georgia’s historic 2021 defense were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, five of whom went in the first round. Not only that but the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator that year, Dan Lanning, was hired as the head coach at Oregon. Despite that massive turnover, Georgia’s defense was still sixth in the Power Five in terms of EPA per play. Schumann and Muschamp may share the title of defensive coordinator, but it was Schumann who called the plays in 2022, according to ESPN’s Chris Low.”

Head coach Kirby Smart brought then 25-year-old Schumann to Athens as an assistant shortly after taking the job in 2016. Schumann had yet to serve as a on-the-field coach prior to the move to Georgia.

Schumann went from inside linebackers coach to co-defensive coordinator paired with former Bulldog Will Muschamp after the departure of Dan Lanning to Oregon ahead of the 2022 season.

Muschamp joined the staff shortly after the 2020 season as a defensive analyst and eventually transitioned to special teams coordinator that year after Scott Cochran took time away from the team for personal reasons.

With Muschamp and Schumann at the helm in the 2022 national championship season, Georgia finished 10th in total defense, first in rush defense and and fifth in scoring defense.

The Bulldogs rewarded Schumann with a salary boost this offseason of over $805,000 to raise his number to $1.9 million annually. Muschamp is still drawing funds from his prior contract as South Carolina’s head coach.

Georgia’s Glenn Schumann staying with Bulldogs after NFL interview

UGA Co-DC to remain in Athens…

Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann will remain with Georgia football after interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant defensive coordinator last week, according to a report from ESPN.

Schumann, who also coaches inside linebackers, will return along side co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp for the pair’s second season calling the Georgia defense.

The NFL has taken notice of the Bulldogs recent success after back-to-back national titles.

The Baltimore Ravens recently hired former offensive coordinator Todd Monken in the same capacity after three seasons in Athens.

It seems that it will be only a matter of time before Schumann takes the next step. The former Alabama assistant is one of two remaining original assistant coaches who were hired by head coach Kirby Smart when he began his tenure at Georgia in 2016. The other is running backs coach Dell McGee.

Glenn Schumann returning to Georgia after interviewing for Eagles’ defensive coordinator job

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator vacancy will come down to Sean Desai-Dennard Wilson after Glenn Schumann decided to stay at the University of Georgia

The Eagles’ search for a new defensive coordinator appears to have two final candidates after Glenn Schumann decided to return to the University of Georgia according to ESPN’s Chris Low.

Schumann was co-defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs and called plays last year for two-time defending champs.

Georgia can breathe a sigh of relief after having already lost offensive coordinator Todd Monken to the Baltimore Ravens.

Head coach Nick Sirianni went the college route on several interviews, having conversations with Michigan’s Jesse Minter and former Wisconsin interim coach Jim Leonhard.

The Eagles have yet to make a hire to replace Jonathan Gannon, who never left Arizona after the Super Bowl, accepting the Cardinals head coaching job.

Seahawks assistant head coach Sean Desai was in Philadelphia on Monday for his second interview as the organization works for a final decision.

Report: Georgia co-DC speaking with Philadelphia Eagles

Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator coach Glenn Schumann is speaking with the Philadelphia Eagles about their open DC role

Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is speaking with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding their open defensive coordinator role.

Schumann is a key reason why Georgia has won back-to-back national championships. He is a young and talented coach. Schumann has coached with Kirby Smart for the majority of his coaching career. He has been a piece of six national championship winning teams.

Glenn Schumann has been Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator since when Mel Tucker left Georgia in 2019. He assumed a larger role last season after Dan Lanning accepted the head coaching job at the University of Georgia.

Online Athens/Joshua L. Jones

Jonathon Gannon, who is now the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, was previously the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles under head coach Nick Sirianni.

If Glenn Schumann takes a job with another team, then Georgia will likely promote within and have Will Muschamp be the defensive coordinator. Muschamp is already Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator.

Eagles Wire has a list of potential candidates that Schumann is expected be competing against.

Why are college coaches darting for the NFL these days? The complications of name, image and likeness along with the packed recruiting calendar makes it a yearlong grind for coaches.

If Glenn Schumann joins the Eagles, then he would be reunited with Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis.

Dan Matthews, of 680 The Fan in Atlanta, reported the news of Schumann’s talk with the Eagles.

Coaching continuity major factor in Georgia’s back-to-back championships

Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and offensive coordinator Todd Monken have been key in UGA’s back-to-back titles

The Alabama Crimson Tide hired Miami’s defensive coordinator, Kevin Steele, for the same role under Nick Saban. Alabama was probably interested in Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, but the Crimson Tide ended up going in another direction.

Nick Saban and Alabama had to replace both coordinators this offseason. Saban is quite familiar with replacing his coordinators, but recently the Crimson Tide have not had much continuity at either coordinator slot.

Part of Georgia’s success is due to the Bulldogs’ ability to maintain continuity on the coaching staff. That could change this offseason. Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken has had several interviews with NFL teams. Additionally, co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann is a candidate to become Miami’s defensive coordinator. Schumann would certainly be qualified for the role.

Saban and Alabama likely reached out to Schumann given his background and success. Schumann coached at Alabama from 2008-2014 as a student and graduate assistant. It is hard to imagine the Miami defensive coordinator position looking more enticing than the Alabama role.

Monken’s timeline with the NFL may be delayed until after the Super Bowl. NFL teams want to interview key staff members from the well-respected coaching staffs in the Super Bowl.

Kirby Smart had both Schumann and Monken as coordinators for Georgia’s back-to-back national championships. Yes, Georgia lost Dan Lanning to Oregon last offseason, but Georgia has maintained an elite coaching staff despite winning consecutive national championships. Major roster turnover is definite in college football, but significant coaching turnover does not always happen year-to-year.

ESPN’s Chris Low reported the news of Alabama hiring Kevin Steele:
