Former Boston Celtics wing Terrence Williams pleads guilty in NBA fraud case

The case focused on several Celtics players such as Tony Allen and Glen Davis.

Former Boston Celtics reserve wing Terrence Williams has reportedly pled guilty to defrauding the NBA, according to a report by Reuters’ Jonathan Stempel.

Williams, who played for the Celtics for 24 games in the 2012-13 season, offered a guilty plea for conspiracy and identity theft in a New York City trial accusing the former Louisville star of being the ringleader of wide-ranging scam allegedly involving a number of other Celtics alumni.

The criminal venture was created to defraud an NBA health plan of millions of dollars for medical procedures that never happened. Participating doctors shared kickbacks to the players accused of taking part in the scam.

Williams also agreed to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the league plan and forfeit $653,673 to the court as part of his plea.

The case focused on several Celtics players such as Tony Allen and Glen Davis.

Examples of the fraudulent activity included Davis and Allen “receiving crowns on the same six teeth on the same day, and Davis receiving crowns on eight teeth in Beverly Hills although he was in Nevada.”

Every Boston Celtics player appearance on ‘Shaqtin’a Fool’ since 2011

Watch the clip to see the worst (or at least the funniest) of the Celtics over the last decade and a year.

While it might not be an honor to appear on former Boston Celtics big man Shaquille O’Neal‘s “Shaqtin a Fool” segment on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” a fair number of Boston players making a guest appearance over the years. The segment, for the uninitiated, is effectively the blooper reel of the dumbest, funniest or weirdest things Shaq and company caught on video that week.

Now, YouTuber and Celtics fan videographer Danielle Hobeika put together an all-time compilation of when Celtics players made the show. The list includes Rajon Rondo, Mikael Pietrus, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Kris Humphries, Vitor Faverani, Kelly Olynyk, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Al Horford, Gerald Green, Jayson Tatum, Daniel Theis, Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis.

Watch the clip embedded below to see the worst of Boston over the last decade and a year — and try not to drink anything while you watch it.

Former NBA player ‘Big Baby’ Glen Davis to compete on Jake Paul undercard

Glen Davis is the latest professional athlete to crossover into the world of boxing.

Jarrell Miller isn’t the only notable “Big Baby” in the world of boxing.

Former NBA player [autotag]Glen Davis[/autotag] enters as the latest crossover athlete to test the waters in professional boxing with a debut match set on the Jake Paul undercard Aug. 13 at a location and venue to be announced.

Davis confirmed the news on his social media after an initial report Thursday by The Athletic.

No opponent has been announced, though the initial report stated Most Valuable Promotions originally sought former NBA player Larry Sanders. However, Sanders was contractually tied to BIG3, a three-on-three basketball league featuring former NBA players, so the boxing promotion has redirected.  According to a follow-up report by ESPN, the Jake Paul-headed promotion is seeking for a former WWE superstar to fight Davis.

Davis, 36, played eight seasons in the NBA from 2007-2015 after a successful three-year stint for Louisiana State University. He was a member of the 2008 NBA champion Boston Celtics, for whom he frequently played a supporting role off the bench. He quickly became a fan favorite for his colorful personality and humor during his time in Boston.

While he has no prior combat sports competition to his name, Davis trained MMA at Wai Kru in Allston, Mass., during his time with the Celtics and appeared as a UFC guest at the UFC Fan Expo in 2010.

Since his NBA career ended, Davis made stops in Croatia and BIG3.

In recent years, Davis has encountered legal troubles. He was arrested in 2018 for drug possession and distribution. Davis paid a fine and the case was indefinitely suspended. Later that year, Davis pled no contest to an assault charge after he was arrested for an alleged fight outside of a Los Angeles nightclub. In October 2021, Davis was one of 18 former NBA players arrested in an alleged health care fraud scheme. The case is still ongoing.

Davis has made recent appearances at Celtics games, including Kevin Garnett’s retirement ceremony. He also embarked on a small comedy tour during his time back in Boston.

Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis may have violated probation to attend Kevin Garnett’s retirement ceremony

Getting caught in the wrong seats may have been the least trouble he got into that day.

Former Boston Celtics champion center Glen “Big Baby” Davis would not have missed Kevin Garnett’s jersey retirement ceremony (and the game against the Dallas Mavericks before it) for the world — and it very well may have landed him in some legal hot water.

On probation for his involvement in a scheme to defraud the NBA for dental work that never happened, the former Boston big man evidently violated the terms of his probation by attending the event according to sports law expert Darren Heitner, and the resulting court appearance it caused forced Davis to have to cancel a radio appearance with local sports broadcasters WEEI, per the “Toucher and Rich” show’s Twitter account.

During his time on the sidelines in the Mavs loss, Big Baby had gone viral by being nabbed sitting in someone else’s seats during the game — but it seems as if that was not the only headache the former Celtics center would have to sort out as a result of his attendance that day.

Celtics alum Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis pursuing career as stand-up comedian

He’ll be performing at several Boston-area venues over the next month.

There have been more than a few moments of unintentional comedy gold surrounding the NBA and NBA-adjacent life of former Boston Celtics big man and 2008 champion Glen “Big Baby” Davis, including his recent SNAFU that saw him get kicked out of the wrong seats at the Celtics’ recent home game against the Brooklyn Nets.

But not all of the comedic gold being put out into the universe by the onetime Celtics center is an accident — in fact, quite a bit of it is intentional. The Boston alumnus is actually pursuing a career as a stand-up comedian, and if you happen to live in the greater Boston area, you can check out Big Baby’s jokes live for yourself at any number of local venues.

Billed as “a night of nonstop laughter as he takes you on his journey from NBA big man to hilarious stand-up comedian,” Davis has upcoming gigs scheduled for March 25 and 26 at Worcester’s Comedy Attic, April 1 at Foxboros’ Comedy Scene, April 7 at Beverly’s Off Cabot Comedy, and April 15 at Laugh Boston.

ESPN hilariously showed ‘Big Baby’ Davis the moment he got booted from courtside seats

Caught in 4K.

The Boston Celtics really need to hook up Glen “Big Baby” Davis with some better seats. This could have all been avoided.

Davis was in attendance for Sunday’s game between the Celtics and Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden, and as a former Celtics players and NBA champion, it made plenty of sense for the ESPN on ABC broadcast to show Davis at his courtside seat. But the timing was absolutely impeccable.

The moment Davis was featured on the broadcast, some guy came up to Davis and booted him out of his seat. Basically, Davis saw a prime, empty courtside seat late in the third quarter and assumed it belonged to a no show. His gamble didn’t pay off, and everyone saw it.

18 ex-NBA players charged in sweeping insurance fraud case, including 7 former Celtics

Several Celtics alumni are part of the group so charged, including Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Tony Allen.

A total of 18 former NBA players have been charged in a sweeping insurance fraud case involving the league’s health and welfare benefit plan, with a number of former Boston Celtics among them according to NBC News’ Tom Winter.

A further report from the Associated Press today relates that the players “engaged in a widespread scheme to defraud the plan by submitting false and fraudulent claims to get reimbursed for medical and dental expenses that were never actually incurred” between 2017 and 2020, with the defendants allegedly charging $3.9 million in non-existent services that they received $2.5 million of themselves.

Among the defendants named by Winter with ties to the Celtics include Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Tony Allen, Sebastian Telfair, Will Bynum, Darius Miles, Terrence Williams, and Milt Palacio.

According to the Associated Press, it remains unclear whether all have been arrested on the above charges.

Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis deletes comments about karmic payback to Kyrie Irving after Celtics logo stomp

We’re still talking about this.

If the question is, “are we still talking about that time Kyrie Irving stomped on the Boston Celtics logo?” the answer is: yes.

After NBA legend Kevin Garnett called out the Brooklyn Nets star a couple of weeks ago, we now have Garnett’s former teammate Glen “Big Baby” Davis doing the same, and this time it was after Irving injured his ankle in Game 4 of the Nets’ Eastern semifinals loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Davis commented on Instagram — and then apparently deleted — “That’s the same ankle stomp on lucky with.”

Lucky, as you might not know, is the name of the Celtics mascot in the logo:

C’mon. Can we please stop with this logo stomp business? And let’s not make light of the injury, while we’re at it.

Former Celtic Glen Davis tweets – then deletes – apparent joy at Kyrie Irving injury

It was definitely not Big Baby’s finest moment.

Former Boston Celtics big man Glen “Big Baby” Davis turned the ire of NBA Twitter against himself on Sunday afternoon by making some comments about an injury sustained by fellow Celtics alumnus Kyrie Irving in a Brooklyn Nets playoff contest against the Milwaukee Bucks.

After Irving came down on Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s foot and appeared to sprain his ankle, Davis tweeted “That’s the same ankle [Irving] stomp on Lucky with … Lucky got his get back.” Davis was referring to an apparent snub the Nets star made after eliminating his former team in the first round that saw Irving step on the Celtics’ Lucky the Leprechaun logo at midcourt.

Twitter users were quick to pounce on the poorly chosen words, rightly taking Davis to task for appearing to revel in the injury to Irving.

At first, he tweeted “Y’all so mad,” seeming to revel in the ire he inspired. But soon afterward, Davis deleted the comments.

An apology would have been better, but it’s always a bad look to wish ill health on others in any walk of life — particularly over such petty things.

Kevin Garnett reacts to Kyrie Irving stepping on the Celtics logo

Kevin Garnett calls out Kyrie Irving’s actions for stepping on the Celtics logo and Glen Davis and Kevin Durant chime in on it all.

After Game 4 versus the Boston Celtics, a game in which Kyrie Irving went off for 39 points to help his Nets take a 3-1 lead in the series, Irving was accused of stomping on the Celtics logo.

Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens shared his thoughts on Irving stomping on the logo. He said, “If they can boo, he can step!” via Brandon Robinson:

Newly inducted Hall of Famer and Celtics legend Kevin Garnett responded to this on his Instagram. He said, “So nobody gonna say anything about Kyrie stomping Lucky? We just gonna act like we didn’t see that? Tf going on … You can’t do that. That’s not coo on no level. All of us need to be better frfr … I’m just saying.”

His former teammate, Glen Davis also chimed in on the drama and Kevin Durant responded.

Glen Davis said: “You step on lucky you step on everybody that played for that team. Keep the (expletive) basketball before somebody get hurt in real life.”

This is then when Durant replied: “(expletive) please” with multiple crying emojis to show he was not taking Big Baby Davis seriously.
