Lady Vols win series opener at Alabama

Tennessee shuts out Alabama softball to open SEC series.

No. 3 Tennessee (36-8, 15-4 SEC) defeated Alabama (31-13, 8-11), 5-0, Friday at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Tennessee won its third consecutive game. The Lady Vols recorded 10 hits in the contest against Alabama.

Kiki Milloy went 2-for-3. She recoded three runs, one double and one stolen base for Tennessee. Zaida Puni went 3-for-4. She recoded one home run, two RBIs and one run.

Payton Gottshall (17-3) pitched seven innings for the Lady Vols. She allowed three hits and two walks, while recording four strikeouts. Gottshall totaled 99 pitches, including 61 strikes.

Game No. 2 between the Lady Vols and Crimson Tide on Saturday is slated for 7 p.m. EDT and will be televised by ESPN2.

Lady Vols shut out LSU to win series

Tennessee softball scores three runs in the sixth inning to clinch a series win against LSU.

No. 4 Tennessee (34-8, 14-4 SEC) defeated No. 7 LSU (35-10, 11-10 SEC), 3-0, Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Lady Vols clinched a series win against LSU.

Sunday’s series finale was scoreless until Tennessee scored three run in the sixth inning. Giulia Koutsoyanopulos and Rylie West hit doubles in the inning, which was Tennessee’s first extra-base hit during the series.

Koutsoyanopulos went 1-for-3. She recorded one double and two RBIs, while Gabby Leach went 1-for-1. Leach recorded a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth inning.

Karlyn Pickens (16-6) pitched six innings and earned a win for the Lady Vols. She recorded seven strikeouts and totaled 119 pitches (74 strikes).

Payton Gottshall earned her second save of the season. She pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Lady Vols win series at Auburn

Tennessee softball wins 20th consecutive game.

No. 4 Tennessee (28-4, 8-0 SEC) defeated Auburn (15-11-1, 2-9 SEC), 8-4, on Saturday at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Alabama.

Tennessee won its 20th consecutive game and clinched a third straight series win.

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos went 2-for-4 and recorded one home run, two RBIs and one run for the Lady Vols.

McKenna Gibson went 2-for-4 and recorded one home run, two RBIs and one run, while Zaida Puni went 2-for-4 and totaled one home run, two runs and one RBI for Tennessee.

Taylor Pannell also hit a home run for Tennessee.

Tenessee will conclude its three-game series at Auburn on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. EDT (SEC Network+).

Lady Vols run-rule Missouri in SEC opener

No. 8 Tennessee (20-4, 1-0 SEC) defeated No. 11 Missouri (22-4, 2-2 SEC), 9-0 in five innings, Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Lady Vols scored seven runs in the first inning en route to earning its 11th consecutive win.

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos went 1-for-2 and hit a grand slam, while Bella Faw hit a home run for Tennessee in its SEC opener.

Kiki Milloy went 2-for-3 and recorded two doubles and one run, while Taylor Pannell went 2-for-3 and totaled one RBI and one run for the Lady Vols.

Karlyn Pickens pitched a five-inning complete game for the Lady Vols. She allowed two hits and one walk, while recording five strikeouts.

Lady Vols defeat Howard for 11th consecutive win

Tennessee softball defeats Howard for 11th consecutive win.

No. 8 Tennessee (19-4) defeated Howard (16-6), 11-4, Monday at Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C.

Monday’s win is Tennessee’s 11th consecutive. The Lady Vols scored nine runs in the second inning.

Sophia Nugent went 4-for-5, recording two runs, one RBI and one stolen base for the Lady Vols.

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos went 2-for-5 and recorded one double, one triple, two runs and three RBIs for Tennessee.

Laura Mealer went 2-for-3, recording two RBIs, one run and one stolen base, while McKenna Gibson totaled two hits, one run and one RBI.

Payton Gottshall (8-2) pitched six innings of scoreless relief en route to earning a win. She allowed three hits and one walk, while recording seven strikeouts.

Chali Orsini started for the Lady Vols and pitched one inning. She allowed four runs, four hits and two walks.

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos signs with Tennessee

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos signs with Tennessee.

The Lady Vols have added Arizona transfer Giulia Koutsoyanopulos.

Koutsoyanopulos competed for Italy in the 2020 Olympics.

She played at Arizona for two seasons and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Koutsoyanopulos has appeared in 102 games, starting 27 contests, as a sophomore in the outfield for Arizona. She has recorded a career .280 batting average, totaling 21 hits and 35 runs.

Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly said Koutsoyanopulos brings a passion for the game to the Lady Vols.

“Giulia has an intensity and competitive fire that bring the term ‘old school’ to mind,” Weekly said. “She just loves to play softball. Her drive to compete and get better is off the charts. I look forward to coaching her.”
