LSU outfielder announces transfer destination

The redshirt junior entered the transfer portal after the 2022 season, and he announced his next step on Monday.

[autotag]Giovanni DiGiacomo[/autotag] is a redshirt junior outfielder from Naples, Florida, that has played at LSU for four seasons. Over those four seasons, he amassed a career .275 batting average with 12 doubles, three triples, six homers and 48 RBI.

Last season was statistically his worst season as a Tiger, as he only hit .206 in 36 games played. After LSU fell to Southern Miss in the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional, DiGiacomo announced he was going to enter the famed transfer portal to see what opportunities were possible outside of returning to Baton Rouge.

On Monday, DiGiacomo made the decision of where he would spend his next year playing college ball. He’s taking his talents to Durham, North Carolina, to be a Duke Blue Devil. Duke finished last season 22-32 and 10-20 in conference play. Its season ended in a three-game sweep by Virginia Tech.

LSU Baseball Transfer Portal Tracker: Keeping up with the incoming and outgoing players

Here’s how roster turnover is shaping up for the Tigers this offseason.

It is officially silly season in college baseball as the transfer portal seems to obtain more talent every day. So far, LSU has had nine players enter the transfer portal.

Full disclosure, although these players have entered the portal, they can still return to Baton Rouge. This is their way of testing the waters and seeing what kind of interest they can garner from other schools. We’re going to take a look at the players the Tigers have in the portal so far and the players LSU has landed so far as well.

This post will be updated as news breaks every day, so come back to see if  any new names have entered the portal.

LSU blows out Florida again, wins first SEC series of the year

The Tigers’ bats came alive once again in the rubber match against the Gators.

Today was the rubber match between the Tigers and the Florida Gators. UF won Friday while LSU won Saturday. The Gators were looking for their second SEC series win in a row and LSU was looking for their first conference series win.

[autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] got his first collegiate start, and he was magnificent. He pitched 3.2 innings allowing zero runs on one hit, three walks, and a strikeout. In what has been a very chippy series for both teams, LSU has been able to capitalize on their emotions in an 11-2, series-clinching win.

In the top of the fourth inning, LSU got the scoring started with a two-run [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] bomb to make it 2-0.

[autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] followed that with a massive two-run homer of his own to make it 4-0.

In the top of the sixth, LSU added to their lead when “Captain” [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit an RBI single to make it 5-0.

[autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] followed that with a sacrifice fly for an RBI, [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit an RBI single, and Jobert hit another bomb, this one a three-run homer to make it 10-0.

[autotag]Giovanni DiGiacomo[/autotag] then hit an RBI double to make it 11-0 Tigers heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. Florida finally got on the board in that frame with a couple of runs to cut the lead to 11-2. Taylor stayed in for the rest of the game and secured the 11-2 LSU win giving them the series win over the Gators.

With the win, LSU moves to 17-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Tigers play again Tuesday night against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks before starting a series against Auburn at home on Friday.
