Familiar face on the call for Bengals vs. Ravens Week 2

An old friend will help call the Bengals game this weekend.

The Cincinnati Bengals‘ Week 2 matchup will be at home against another AFC North opponent, the Baltimore Ravens. The broadcast crew has been announced for the game, and there’s a name included that Bengals fans are very familiar with.

Former Bengals RB Giovani Bernard will be the highlight of the Sports USA national radio call as the analyst for the game against the Ravens, according to Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network.

The last time he was in Paycor Stadium was a game against the Ravens in January 2021.

Bernard officially retired over the offseason, spending eight seasons with the Bengals, amassing 6,564 yards from scrimmage in his time with them. He released multiple messages thanking Cincinnati fans for the support he received over his career.

The CBS TV broadcast crew will feature Andrew Catalon, Tiki Barber, Matt Ryan and AJ Ross.

Giovani Bernard comments again after announcing retirement

Former Bengals RB Gio Bernard says his goodbyes.

Former Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard announced his retirement April 28 through his Twitter.

He left a message for the fans in a thread that day, but he had more to say, reported by Geoff Hobson on the Bengals’ official website.

Here’s some of what Bernard had to say:

“I wasn’t that vocal person, but every time I got put in that vocal moment I would hope the guys would listen, but I was just a scrappy guy. I would flip the switch. Maybe not as much as the Vontaze Burfict switch, but I would flip the switch and become a different person on the field. The energy and passion would come out and people would say after the game, ‘Wow, I never saw that side of you pushing and shoving another person.’ … I hope everyone knows I was a scrappy kind of guy.”

Bernard also said he met a lot of good people and seemed to truly appreciate his time in Cincinnati.

Former Bengals RB Giovani Bernard announces retirement

A modern great Bengals player says goodbye.

Long-time Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard announced his retirement on his Twitter Friday.

Bernard played eight years with the Bengals and picked up 6,564 yards from scrimmage and 33 touchdowns during his time in Cincinnati.

He was drafted by the Bengals in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft with the 37th overall pick.

After leaving Cincinnati, Bernard signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent and spent two years with the team.

Here’s what Bernard said in his retirement announcement:

10 years ago, I came into this league grateful. Grateful for what God has done for me to get to that moment and to celebrate all the obstacles that were overcome. And now fast forward 10 years, I leave humbled. Humbled by the experiences, relationships, and memories that have shaped me during this time. I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with exceptional men and women, including my brothers on the field, coaches who’ve taught me so much, and front office/staff who worked behind the scenes to make it all seamless. I offer my deepest thanks to you all. You’ve allowed me and my family to be a part of something truly special. We are forever grateful and feel truly blessed that this was part of our journey. As I look forward, I’m excited for the newness ahead. New challenges to face and new adventures to take. What a ride it’s been, but what a ride is to come. Thankful for you all. Much love!

Former UNC RB Giovani Bernard retires from NFL

Former UNC football running back Giovani Bernard has retired from the NFL, he announced on Friday.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels running back Giovani Bernard is officially calling it a career in the NFL. Bernard took to Twitter just hours before the start of day 2 of the 2023 NFL draft, posting a special message to call it a career.

After spending two seasons at North Carolina, Bernard entered the NFL draft and was a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent eight seasons with the Bengals before being released ahead of the 2021 season.

Bernard spent the final two years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here is what Bernard posted in his Twitter message:

10 years ago, I came into this league grateful. Grateful for what God has done for me to get to that moment and to celebrate all the obstacles that were overcome. And now fast forward 10 years, I leave humbled. Humbled by the experiences, relationships, and memories that have shaped me during this time. Bucs RB Gio Bernard retires

Bernard played for Tampa Bay for two years.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back [autotag]Giovani Bernard[/autotag] announced his retirement today after 10 years in the NFL. Bernard spent the last two seasons with the Bucs after spending nearly a decade with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bernard signed with Tampa in 2021 following their Super Bowl LV win. Playing in 20 games during his Bucs run, Bernard only had 16 carries for 86 yards, but he was a valuable receiving weapon in 2021, catching 23 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

At 31 years old, he was unlikely to re-sign with the Bucs this offseason. He finished both of the last two seasons on injured reserve and was well beyond his prime, as nearly all running backs are over the age of 30.

Despite being undersized at 5’9″ and 205 pounds, Bernard carved out a long and productive career in the NFL. The Bengals drafted Bernard in the second round of the 2013 draft. A talented dual threat, Bernard had over 1000 yards from scrimmage in each of his first three seasons.

WATCH: Giovani Bernard’s awkward exchange with media after botched fake punt

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Giovani Bernard had an odd postgame exchange with the media after Sunday’s game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave up a 17-point lead Sunday in a 34-23 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, aided by a deluge of turnovers in the third quarter.

One of them, a botched fake punt that was mishandled by reserve running back Giovani Bernard, sparked an odd postgame interaction in the locker room.

Tampa Bay called the fake on a 4th-and-1 in their own territory, and appeared to have blocked it well enough to convert, but the snap bounced off of Bernard and was recovered by the Bengals. Bernard appeared to be surprised by the snap.

As media tried to speak with Bernard about the play, the veteran special-teamer evidently wanted to avoid the conversation, according to multiple outlets:

After finally agreeing to answer questions, Bernard admitted that the turnover was his fault, but declined to get into the specifics when asked whether or not he knew that the fake had been called:

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told the media that Bernard was aware of the play call, and simply didn’t catch the ball when it was snapped to him.

Whatever the reason for what transpired, it was a critical error that helped spark Tampa Bay’s epic collapse Sunday, in yet another embarrassing loss.

Bucs RB Giovani Bernard designated for return from injured reserve

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Giovani Bernard has been designated for return from injured reserve

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were hoping to use their bye week to get healthier, and one veteran on offense appears to be doing just that.

Running back Giovani Bernard has been designated for return from injured reserve, the team announced Monday.

This move opens up a 21-day window during which Bernard can return to practice, and be moved to the active roster at any point.

Bernard suffered an ankle injury during Tampa Bay’s Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints, after which he was placed on injured reserve, and has been out ever since.

Rookie Rachaad White enjoyed a breakout performance in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks, but with Leonard Fournette nursing a hip injury, Bernard’s return would give the Bucs some experienced depth in the backfield as they hit the homestretch of the regular season.

Bucs RB Giovani Bernard (ankle) won’t return vs. Saints

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to finish Sunday’s game without one of their veteran running backs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to finish Sunday’s game without one of their veteran running backs.

Giovani Bernard left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury, and has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Leonard Fournette is still getting the lion’s share of the snaps in Tampa Bay’s backfield, with rookie third-round draft pick Rachaad White backing him up. Looks like they’ll have to keep splitting the touches for the rest of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running backs: What to expect in fantasy football

Here’s how the Tampa backfield should shake out in 2022.

The running back room for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have a different look this season after the team allowed Ronald Jones to leave via free agency.

While the exodus of Jones wasn’t unexpected, it does create a void, since he had been the team’s leading rusher in 2019 and 2020 and was No. 2 to Leonard Fournette last season.

New Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles inherits a veteran, playoff-tested team that won’t have a lot of positional uncertainty. However, the running back battle behind Fournette will have to clear itself out during training camp and the preseason.
