It took way too long for Notre Dame to get on the board against Ohio State. With the Buckeyes in front, 10-0, in the third quarter, the Irish needed to make something in order to stay in the game. They finally did so on a drive that took up more than half the quarter and went 75 yards. As good a response as this was to the Buckeyes’ touchdown on the previous possession, the Irish still are playing from behind. At the time this is being written, the third quarter is over, giving the Irish 15 minutes to flip the script. We’ll see if one exists when the Irish travel to NC State for their first true road game of the season. Notre Dame’s game against Tennessee State has become a showcase for players getting firsts in their collegiate careers. First, we saw [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] score his first touchdown. Next, [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag] got his first touchdown pass. Then, Angeli threw his second touchdown pass to a running back, who scored his first touchdown on the play. Like many other second-half contributors for the Irish, Payne’s opportunity was made possible because the Irish went into the half with such a big lead. When Payne scored, the Tigers still had been kept off the scoreboard in the second half. They had been held to a mere field goal just like Navy had against the Irish the week before.

Notre Dame looked like a team that was ready for the season against Navy. Hardly any weaknesses were on display. Now, we get to see if the Irish can repeat that performance or at least mimic it in their home opener against Tennessee State. With that comes the Irish releasing their depth chart against [autotag]Navy[/autotag] in Dublin, Ireland. There aren’t too many surprises, but having four true freshman in the two-deep is interesting.

Linebacker [autotag]Drayk Bowen[/autotag] and cornerback [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] have impressed the coaches enough to warrant early playing time on defense. As for the offense, two receivers, [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] and [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag], have also made early marks and will see the field in their first year.

Another true freshman, running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] was included, but he’s bracketed with two other teammates and behind starter [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] and backup [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag].

Get ready for the season with some familiar names.

The first buildup to a Notre Dame football game for 2023 finally has arrived. You all have been very patient in waiting for this week, but that patience has paid off. Waiting for this long deserves a pat on the back, so give yourself one as you’re reading this. And even if you have heard this preseason spiel before, give yourself a pat on the back anyway.

With that schmaltz out of the way, let’s talk about the players on the 2023 Irish roster who performed the best in 2022. We should see some of that on display in the season opener against Navy. Although the Midshipmen are not exactly the best opponent to use as a measuring stick, we at least can get an idea of what’s to come. After all, they don’t call it Week 0 for nothing.

That was a memorable game yesterday, wasn’t it? The Irish absolutely dominated the visiting Eagles, snow and shine. The most impressive win of the year left a very positive taste in everyone’s mouth and it’s going to show here as well. These are my lasting thoughts about Notre Dame’s 44-0 trouncing of Boston College.

Notre Dame running back out for the year

How do you feel about Notre Dame’s running backs entering the 2022 season now?

Notre Dame freshman running back [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] was supposed to make an impact this fall but now his season is already over before it even began.  Notre Dame announced that Price suffered a ruptured achilles tendon recently and underwent surgery this week.  The injury will keep him out for the entire 2022 season.

Price was a four-star running back out of Denison, Texas and enrolled early at Notre Dame this spring.  Price was one of the stars of the annual Blue-Gold Game as he totaled 116 yards on 17 touches.

The injury puts a further dent in what should be a talented running back room for Notre Dame.  Sophomore [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] suffered a torn labrum in the spring game and his status for the opener at Ohio State remains unknown.

Junior [autotag]Chris Tyree[/autotag], sophomore [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag], and freshman [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag] are the only three scholarship backs currently healthy on the Notre Dame roster.
