Colorado starting LT Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan hitting the transfer portal

After four year at Colorado, “Tank” is hitting the portal

Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan, one of the few remaining players from Colorado football’s 2022 roster, announced Friday he’ll be entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Known as “Tank,” the 6-foot-10, 310-pound left tackle redshirted with the Buffs in 2020 before receiving his first college snaps the following year. Christian-Lichtenhan then started eight games in 2022 and 11 this past season.

Following Colorado’s Week 2 win over Nebraska, he was named the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week.

According to his announcement on X (formerly known as Twitter), Christian-Lichtenhan plans on remaining at CU for the upcoming spring semester before graduating in May.

He enters the portal with one year of college eligibility remaining.

Other Buffs who plan on entering the transfer portal when it opens Monday include linebacker Marvin Ham II and tight end Caleb Fauria.

Colorado spring football: Five Buffs turning heads early

With the first week of spring practice complete, here are five Buffs who’ve been turning heads early on

The first week of spring practice is in the books for Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders.

So far, we’ve been hearing mostly positive returns from the new-look Buffs. There’s still plenty of work to be done regarding learning new playbooks and figuring out who fits best where, but I’d chalk March up as a productive month, and the hope is that April follows suit.

Additionally, a few players, including a pair of returning Buffs, have shined especially bright early in camp. Four spring practices into the Coach Prime era, below are five Buffs who’ve been turning heads in a variety of ways:

Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan noticing improvement in key areas for O-line

With some first-team reps now under his belt, there’s a good chance we could see Tank rolled out more often this season

When the 6-foot-10, 325-pound Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan joins the huddle,  it’s noticeable. His presence brings a size advantage to nearly any matchup.

Although Christian-Lichtenhan is a projected third tackle, I’m still confident we’ll see “Tank” rolled out more often in 2022. Due to a few minor injuries to expected starters, Christian-Lichtenhan has already been getting some first-team reps, only furthering his development.

The O-line in its entirety has also taken a step forward under new position coach Kyle DeVan, according to Tank.

“We trust a lot more of our pass pro (protection), our hands, our vision of where we’re going,” said the sophomore Christian-Lichtenhan. “We kind of have a better idea of what’s going on. (There’s) a lot more communication within the line group, so it’s really nice. We’re all on the same page now.”
