Georgia fails to score from the inch line to end first half

Georgia vs Tennessee is at halftime after UGA football failed to score from the goal line.

Oh man, this one hurt.

From the one-inch line with one second to go in the first half of Georgia vs Tennessee, the Bulldogs failed to convert on fourth down.

The Dawgs could not get an inch. An inch.

Georgia goes to the locker room trailing 21-17. Tennessee gets the ball to open the second half.

Jack Podlesny caps off the drive with a 47-yard field goal

Freshman WR Jermaine Burton sets up a 47-yard field goal on a big run, Georgia football up 17-14.

Freshman wide receiver Jermaine Burton goes off for a huge 43-yard run to set up the Bulldogs’ kicker Jack Podlesny for a 47-yard field goal.

Burton showed off his speed on the drive, racing past a number of Tennessee defenders.

Podlesny has been perfect so far this season, filling in some big shoes that Georgia’s all-time leading kicker Rodrigo “Hot Rod” Blankenship left behind.  With Blankenship leading the NFL in all points scored, it is officially Hot Pod season in Athens!

What an awful start for Georgia against Tennessee.

On the second play from scrimmage, center Trey Hill’s snapping troubles continued, as he sent one 30 yards over Stetson Bennett’s head and into the end zone.

Georgia tried to fall on it but was unable to. The Vols recovered in the end zone for an early touchdown.

Georgia finds itself down 7-0 early.

What Tennessee media is saying about Georgia

No. 3 Georgia faces No. 14 Tennessee today in Athens at 3:30 p.m. Here is what the Vols media is saying about the Bulldogs.

It’s Saturday in Athens DawgNation!

The No. 3 Bulldogs are set to take on No. 14 Tennessee this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. on CBS Network if weather permits.

It’s been raining since last night and the forecast is calling for more precipitation with some scattered thunderstorms during gametime, according to weather.com.

That said, both these teams feature run-focused offenses that are prepared for a classic SEC battle and the rain makes it even more of a physical matchup.

Here is what Tennessee’s media is saying about Georgia ahead of the game.

Tennessee-Georgia ‘a chess match’ between undefeated teams – by Dan Harrelson – Vols Wire

“Not having Daniels or Newman playing has paved a way for 5-foot-11, 190-pound Stetson Bennett to become Georgia’s signal-caller. In wins against Arkansas and Auburn, Bennett is 37-of-57 for 451 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He has been sacked twice. Through the first two games, Monken has been able to run Air Raid concepts with Bennett, while maintaining a physical ground game.”

Here’s the 4-step formula for Tennessee football to beat Georgia – by Blake ToppmeyerKnoxville News Sentinel

“Turnover margin is one of the biggest factors in any game, but it’s proven to be especially telling against Georgia. In the Bulldogs’ seven losses since 2017, they’ve tallied 15 turnovers compared to three takeaways.”

The Cheat Sheet – by Brent Hubbs – Vol Quest

“Georgia has converted 13 of 25 third down tries in the two match ups against Jeremy Pruitt. Two years ago in Athens, Georgia dominated the Vols’ tired and undermanned defensive front by dominating time of possession.”

Georgia – Tennessee: Nasty weather forecasted for 3:30 p.m. kickoff

No. 3 Georgia takes on No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET and the weather forecast does not look good. Details and analysis here.

No. 3 Georgia is set to meet No. 14 Tennessee at Sanford Stadium in Athens on Saturday.

The game is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET and unfortunately for Bulldog fans and especially the quarterbacks, the weather forecast does not look great.

There is currently an 80% chance of rain, with most of the precipitation coming in the morning and followed by scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon, according to weather.com.

We flashback to the monsoon that was UGA versus Kentucky in 2019,  one of the most ugly games in Sanford Stadium history.

It rained the entire game – I know because I stood in it – and Georgia didn’t break the scoreless tie until the third quarter.

I’m not saying the Bulldogs matchup with Tennessee on Saturday will be as horrible, but the weather will definitely play a huge factor.

Georgia has the advantage here. Even though the Bulldogs’ offensive front had to replace four starters from a year ago, they completely manhandled a stout Auburn front-seven last week.

Plus, the Bulldogs had five running backs with carries versus the Tigers, which is the kind of depth that Georgia will need if the weather forces the two teams into a one-dimensional offenses.

Tennessee’s offensive line is respectable with four former 5-star recruits up front and senior quarterback Jarret Garantano has protected the football so far this season.

However, this Georgia defense is the best in the country. The Bulldogs’ front featuring guys like Jordan Davis and Malik Herring have been unstoppable.

Plus, add the outside rush factor from Azeez Ojulari and Nolan Smith with the lockdown secondary led by preseason All-American safety Richard LeCounte and this Tennessee offense is in for a long game Saturday.
