COVID vaccine can get you free Notre Dame tickets

Free ticket opportunity.

In 1977 Eddie Money sang about having “Two Tickets to Paradise” with a hit single that reached as high as number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.

I don’t know if tickets to see Notre Dame host Navy or Georgia Tech later this fall would qualify as paradise but in an effort to get people vaccinated, Notre Dame and the St. Joseph County Department of Health (SJCDH) are giving county residents two free tickets to either of those home contests if they get their first COVID-19 vaccine shot in the SJCDH.

In a release, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick stated:

“Notre Dame continues to look for ways to encourage members of our community — including our local fans — to get vaccinated against COVID-19,” said University Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick. “We hope that the opportunity to secure complimentary tickets to a Notre Dame football game will provide an additional reason for residents of our broader community to become vaccinated.”

If someone hasn’t gotten the vaccine yet I’m not sure college football tickets to rather non-marquee games will do the trick but I certainly appreciate the effort on both Notre Dame and St. Joseph County’s parts.

If interested in participating in this opportunity, individuals must receive their vaccine at the St. Joseph County Department of Health supported clinic in the main lobby of the County-City Building (227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601). Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:20 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30-11:20 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Individuals can also schedule a time at www.ourshot.in.gov.

How Notre Dame’s 2021 opponents fared in week six

Besides Cincinnati, which 2021 Notre Dame opponent is the most impressive?

No. 14 Notre Dame took an unconventional route to 5-1 over the weekend as quarterbacks were shuffled like deck chairs in what wound up being an improbable 32-29 victory at Virginia Tech.

Notre Dame now takes a break for their bye week before starting the second half of their season on October 23 when they play host to a struggling USC squad.

Here is how those USC Trojans and every other 2021 Notre Dame opponent fared in week six:

ESPN FPI’s latest Notre Dame season projections

You buying these projections at all?

No. 14 Notre Dame has been a difficult team to figure out through the first five games of 2021.  At times the offense has looked strong, defense has looked elite, and special teams have made some spectacular plays.

At other times the offense has looked dreadful, the defense has stumbled, and the special teams have given away possessions or missed chip shot kicks.

So what does the rest of the 2021 season have in store for this Fighting Irish team that has so many questions?

If things play out how ESPN’s latest FPI projections say, it could still mean big thing for the Irish.  Here are the chances the latest FPI gives Notre Dame in all seven of their remaining games:

Georgia Tech vs Duke Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Georgia Tech is having a rough time moving the chains and converting on third downs.

That’s okay – Duke’s defense can’t stop anyone on third downs.

Woefully inconsistent so far, the Yellow Jackets are able to throw better than they have in years, but the ground game has been completely hit-or-miss partly because the offensive front is allowing way too many plays behind the line. Playing Pitt and Clemson will do that, but in a perfect world it’s able to be 200 rushing/200 passing on a regular basis.

That’s okay – Duke doesn’t do too much to get behind the line.

On the positive side, no, Georgia Tech isn’t getting the balance, but it’s versatile enough to go with the flow of the game and keep the offense moving. That hasn’t been a part of the puzzle for the program for years.

Why Duke Will Win

The loss to North Carolina got away from the Blue Devils last week, but the running game has been good enough to take over most games.

It’s been inconsistent with its ability to tear off big runs, but Mateo Durant is a 100-yard machine averaging over six yards per pop. He’ll get the ball early and often against a Georgia Tech defense that’s been fine against the run, but struggles when it’s not a brick wall.

The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 when allowing fewer than 155 rushing yards and 0-3 when allowing more. Duke has rushed for 150 or more in four of its five games, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Turnovers continue to be an issue for Duke.

It’s not quite as bad as last year, but the program is on a heater with two or more giveaways in eight straight games and in 13 of the last 15.against FBS teams.

Georgia Tech is 2-0 when forcing multiple takeaways and 0-3 when it doesn’t. So …

Predicting the outcome of every game remaining on Georgia’s schedule

Score predictions for every remaining game on UGA’s schedule

The Georgia Bulldogs are currently sitting at 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in the nation after the first five weeks of the season.

Georgia has seven games remaining on its schedule and the month of October features games against four ranked opponents. The Dawgs knocked one out of the way already, beating then-ranked No. 8 Arkansas 37-0 last weekend. But a tough stretch of games in October include Auburn, Kentucky and Florida. Come out of the month undefeated and the Dawgs can coast the rest of the way with games against Missouri, Tennessee, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech.

Below I predict the outcome of every remaining game on UGA’s schedule.

ESPN FPI’s projects Notre Dame’s final eight games

What does Notre Dame do over the next eight weeks?

Notre Dame survived the first two weeks by the skin of their teeth as they snuck by both Florida State and Toledo before looking a little better against Purdue and dominating the fourth quarter against Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin game was the first of a stretch of five-straight games for Notre Dame that is the toughest part of the schedule.  After No. 7 Cincinnati this week it’ll be a trip to Virginia Tech before a bye week and then home contests against both USC and North Carolina.

We like to keep an eye on how ESPN’s Football Power Index projects things as the year goes on.  Headed into the Cincinnati game here is how FPI sees Notre Dame’s chances in their eight remaining games of 2021:
