Georgia-Georgia Tech: The second biggest football game in the state Saturday

Why Georgia-Georgia Tech isn’t even the biggest game in the state on Saturday

Saturday, toe meets leather when the Georgia Bulldogs square off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Though the two longtime rivals have a storied history on both sides of the contest, we’re here to tell you why it’s the second biggest game in the Peach State Saturday.

(Yes, this post is supposed to be sarcastic, just like this tweet)

(Funny, huh?)

Georgia (10-1), heads into Atlanta as a 28.5-point favorite over a rebuilding Yellow Jacket squad that only has three victories on the season. Georgia Tech (3-9), will likely just be playing for pride on Saturday with a bowl far out of the equation and only the ability to play spoiler at stake.

Here’s why this game isn’t even the biggest in Georgia tomorrow. Take the following information as you will.

Georgia State (7-4) and Georgia Southern (6-5) are playing in a battle of bowl-eligible Sun Belt teams in Statesboro. Of course, this game has no implications on the College Football Playoff, but neither does the one in Atlanta if you convince yourself Georgia cannot possibly lose.

(Yes, South Carolina did beat Georgia this year, but have you seen Tech play?)

The North Avenue Trade School’s only wins are over USF, Miami and NC State. Don’t pull the bowl eligible card on me with Miami, the ‘Canes are terrible right now.

As you know, anything can happen in a rivalry game, until you realize you’re playing a junior varsity high school team. The contest in Statesboro is even more heated than Clean Old-Fashioned Hate this season, once you come to terms with the current factors of the game.

The two in-state Sun Belt foes have comparable teams in just about every sport and even play in the same division. Georgia State and Georgia Southern fans have been battling it out on the inter webs all year, debating who’s better.

As for Georgia-Georgia Tech, it’s one team’s Super Bowl and the other team’s annual cupcake before the SEC Championship.

Overall, of course Georgia-Georgia Tech carries more weight than a Sun Belt rivalry for college football, but this season, the biggest Peach State football game on 11/30 is in Statesboro.

Why am I writing this post in the middle of the night before heading to Bobby Dodd in a few hours? Because if the Tech game actually mattered this year, I’d already be out there tailgating.

Sure, Georgia Tech could technically win the game, but there’s a better chance the Braves win a playoff series or the Falcons’ offensive line lets Matt Ryan get a pass off in the 4th Quarter. As for that other game, it’s anyone’s guess who comes out on top, which makes it actually interesting.

I can almost guarantee you that 15 minutes into the Georgia game Saturday, you’ll start looking at your remote and consider flipping to Ohio State-Michigan for a play or two. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 67-41-5 and the contest hasn’t been close since 2017.

This season, with the talent gap still growing, Geoff Collins took over an option-centered Yellow Jacket offense and tried to run a pro-style scheme. Sure, this might win Tech an ACC Coastal division title in a few years, but it’s not going to give them a chance this weekend.

Georgia State leads the all-time series with Georgia Southern three games to two. The rivalry is so heated that the schools fought over who the real “GSU” was, until Georgia Southern finally agreed to be called “GS” on telecasts.

And did I mention each school has been to as many bowl games as Georgia Tech in the last two seasons? Ouch.

Of course I have a hatred for Tech that lies deep inside of me, but let’s face it, there’s really no need to show it that much. Why? Because Tech is irrelevant and only exists for the sole purpose of annoying Georgia. Ok, not really, but that’s what I like to believe.

Also, these so-called geniuses decided it would be a good idea to combine the two largest interstates in Georgia and merge them through downtown with I-20 in Atlanta. For that, I am forever bitter as I have to suffer the consequences five days a week and even this Saturday.

Seriously, who’s idea was that? Moron.

What’s my point here? Well, I’m glad you asked.

I’ll be in Bobby Dodd Stadium draped in red and black, watching the Bulldogs beat down on the bees in a little while.

But yes, I do believe the game in Statesboro will be much more entertaining, once those Georgia touchdowns begin to raise the electricity bill for the Grant Field scoreboard this month.

Go Dawgs! Wreck Tech!

And oh yeah, can we please drop Tech from the schedule for Georgia State next season? I think it might strengthen our resume a bit.

Just a thought.

Georgia football team pays visit to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Shepherd Center

Each time Georgia football has played Georgia Tech in Atlanta of late, the Dawgs have taken a trip to Children’s Healthcare and the Shepherd Center.

Friday, Coach Smart continued that recent tradition before Georgia enters Bobby Dodd Stadium looking to extend the win streak to three against the Jackets.

Take a look.

Could the Dawgs make a return trip next week before taking on LSU? Time will tell.

Regardless, this is pretty darn awesome!

Georgia Tech unveils uniform combination for Georgia football game

Georgia Tech unveils jerseys for Georgia football game on Saturday

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets unveiled their uniform combination for the Georgia game on Friday, opting to wear a colored top vs. the Bulldogs for the first time since 2007 on ‘The Flats’.

What does this mean? Well, it’s now almost a given the Bulldogs will be in white, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. Georgia hasn’t lost a football game in white since 2017 at Auburn and even then, it overcame defeat to win an SEC Championship and a Rose Bowl in those same exact jerseys.

As for the Yellow Jackets, it’s a gold jersey game, for the first time against Georgia since Megatron was at Tech in 2007.

Georgia at Georgia Tech odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Georgia Bulldogs at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets college football matchup, with NCAA football betting odds, picks and best bets

The Georgia Bulldogs (10-1) and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-8) renew their Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate rivalry which dates to 1893. The ‘Dogs and Jackets will meet Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta at noon ET. We analyze the Georgia-Georgia Tech odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Georgia enters the contest ranked No. 4 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA Today Sports. It’s also No. 4 in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

Georgia at Georgia Tech: Three things you need to know

1. The Georgia run defense has yielded three 100-yard games this season. Those aren’t individual player efforts allowed, mind you. They are single-game, team rushing yards … more than 100 just THREE times. And even then, on two of those occasions (Vanderbilt Aug. 31 and South Carolina Oct. 12), UGA held foes to under 4.0 YPC. Through 11 games, the Bulldogs have allowed one rushing touchdown.

2. In four road games this season, Georgia QB Jake Fromm has completed 66% of his passes (eight for TDs against no interceptions) for 208 YPG. He’s been a solid complement to a UGA run game, which has averaged 5.3 YOC away from Athens. It has all led to a 4-0 ATS mark on the road (the Bulldogs are 9-2 ATS over their last 11 road tilts.

3. All three of Georgia Tech’s victories this season have been by one score. That includes last week’s 28-26 win over North Carolina State in which the Yellow Jackets garnered many a hidden yard in special teams and turnover exchanges.

Prediction

Georgia 41, Georgia Tech 3

Moneyline (ML)

Will PASS on the lofty Georgia -5000 moneyline price.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Georgia returns a profit of $0.20 if the Bulldogs win.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Bulldogs were a -4 in turnover margin when they were upset by South Carolina Oct. 12. Since then, UGA hasn’t managed more than one takeaway in any game, nor have the Bulldogs had even a single giveway. Depending on the foe, that’s amounted to five straight boat races with cushions of one, two or three scores. Expect more of the same here, only in a contest with four-score differential. Plus a tad more as Georgia ices away an SEC East title and makes a recruiting pitch to some in-state prospects.

Taking GEORGIA -28.5, +100.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U is 46.5 (-110, -110), a fair price that draws no action here.

NC State-Georgia Tech odds: Yellow Jackets tabbed as narrow favorites

Previewing Thursday’s NC State Wolfpack at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sports betting odds and lines, with college football matchup analysis

The NC State Wolfpack (4-6) will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-8) at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. We analyze the NC State-Georgia Tech odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

NC State at Georgia Tech: Three things you need to know

  1. The Wolfpack have struggled on both sides of the ball of late. In four games since Oct. 19, NC State has been outscored 178-64. Yes, included in that stretch was a 55-10 loss to Clemson, but it also includes sluggish offensive performances against Boston College and Louisville, both of which sport second-division defenses.
  2. Georgia Tech has a number of injury question marks heading into Thursday’s night game. It enters Thursday off a short week and after a physical battle against Virginia Tech. In a game that features equal talent spread across the two rosters, these GT injuries loom large.
  3. The Yellow Jackets have been turnover unlucky this season. Not enough takeaways and little success in producing big plays have been a bad mix for first-year head coach Geoff Collins. But in some hidden areas of the game – bad-spot turnovers, field-position deficits, uneven possession numbers – Georgia Tech finds itself in a situation where some normal regression and a leveling of schedules makes for maybe a four-game winner instead of two.

NC State at Georgia Tech: Odds, betting lines and picks

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Georgia Tech 28, NC State 20

Moneyline (ML)

The contest features an NC State team 0-4 against the spread on the road against an 0-5 ATS Georgia Tech at home. GT has had the tougher overall schedule of the two, and that’s evidenced in the Yellow Jackets’ home schedule.

There is a lean toward the Jackets. Not enough for the ML price, though: STAND PAT on Georgia Tech -139.

Against the Spread (ATS)

We will go with a line watch here. If some pressure comes into the NCSU (+1.5) side and pushes Georgia Tech’s (-1.5) -125 price to -115, the play on the Jackets makes sense and brings some value.

Over/Under (O/U)

The under is 5-1 over the Yellow Jackets’ last six home games and 19-1-1 in the Wolfpack’s last 21 Thursday games. With the defenses ahead of the offenses here, and with a projected game flow allowing sophomore RB Jordan Mason to help Georgia Tech control the clock, the UNDER 49.5 (-125) is a decent play.

Georgia men’s basketball to wear special uniforms vs. Georgia Tech?

Is Georgia basketball rocking throwbacks vs. Georgia Tech Wednesday?

Georgia men’s basketball will host in-state rival Georgia Tech Wednesday in a battle of undefeated teams at Stegeman Coliseum.

While neither side is ranked, it is still a big-time game with bragging rights and the ability to gain momentum on the line.

We cannot confirm anything, but based off a couple factors, it looks like the Dawgs will be rocking their beloved throwback jerseys against the Yellow Jackets when they take the court Wednesday.

Our evidence?

  • The first 1,250 students through the doors receive a throwback Dominique Wilkins ‘shersey’ per GeorgiaDogs.com.

  • Georgia has also posted a throwback-style gameday graphic with the old-school jerseys, mentioning Clean Old-Fashioned Hate.

  • The Dawgs broke out the newly updated throwback threads a few times last season, while playing at home.

  • The jerseys look like they will be back, based off 2020 prospects taking recruiting visit pictures in them.

Of course, nothing here is official, but we have a good feeling Georgia comes out donning the Wilkins-era threads.

If we’re right, remember who called it from the beginning. If we’re wrong, well, we never said anything was official.

Regardless of the uniform, it’s always fun to Hate Tech and beat up on little brother. Make sure to come out to Stegeman Coliseum tonight and cheer on the Dawgs! If you cannot make the game, it will be televised on SEC Network + and broadcast on 680 The Fan.

Go Dawgs!

No rest for Aidan Kramer, a scholar, golfer and philanthropist

Georgia Tech men’s golf signee Aidan Kramer scored a 35 on the ACT and is a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship.

The amount of time college athletes spend on perfecting their craft throughout the year is comparable to that of a full-time job. That’s especially true in golf, which has a year-long season.

What’s constantly forgotten is the fact that they aren’t just athletes, they’re student athletes, and a rigorous academic schedule awaits when they leave the course.

Figuring out the school/sport balance can be tough for most, but don’t expect Georgia Tech 2020 signee Aidan Kramer to struggle when he arrives on campus next fall.

On the course, Kramer ranks No. 79 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Boys Junior Rankings, and No. 26 in the Class of 2020. Where he separates himself from the rest of the future stars of college golf who put pen to paper during Wednesday’s National Signing Day is off the course, specifically in the classroom.

The Hagerty High School (Oviedo, Florida) senior is top 10 in his class with a 4.59 weighted GPA, scored a 35 on the ACT and is a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, with the finalist announcement coming in February. Not bad for 17 years old.

The best of Signing Day

“One of the main draws for Georgia Tech was the balance it has academically and with golf,” said Kramer, who plans to major in industrial engineering. “The value of a degree from Georgia Tech was something I couldn’t pass up. I’ve spent a lot of time on my academics and in school, and I think it has helped me prepare for a place like Georgia Tech, where you need to do both and can’t get by with just golf.”

Kramer, who has his sights on the PGA Tour, called Georgia Tech the “perfect place” to achieve his goals, citing the legacy of great players who have come through the golf program and made it on Tour.

Despite his professional aspirations, Kramer isn’t getting ahead of himself. He’s focused on taking the process one day at a time, and while he may have school figured out, he knows he has plenty to improve on before his freshman season.

“Golf-wise, you have to have a mindset of getting better every day,” Kramer said of his game. “Nothing is as good as it can be and I need to be better in every area.”

In the little downtime Kramer has from hitting the books or golf balls, he enjoys watching football and movies or playing ping pong, like most teenagers. That said, he’s unlike most his age, especially when asked about his dream golf foursome. His answers? Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer (upon realizing he forgot himself, he would later bench Hogan).

For the last two years, his free time has also been spent working with Orlando’s local Fairways for Warriors organization, which is dedicated to decreasing the number of veterans who commit suicide and helping them readjust to civilian life when they return from combat.

“They use the game of golf to bring people together and form camaraderie between veterans,” explained Kramer. “It’s really been amazing to see the impact (Fairways for Warriors) has had on veterans in the area.”

Kramer not only volunteers. He also started an equipment drive for the veterans in need through donations from local golfers, equipment manufacturers and clubs in the area.

“The response has been really positive,” he said. “People really seem to want to help out and I’ve been overwhelmed with the support I’ve gotten.”

This year’s runner-up at the Florida High School 3A State Championship, Kramer committed to Bruce Heppler and the Yellow Jackets in the fall of 2018, picking Georgia Tech over the likes of Wisconsin, Virginia and Northwestern. The current 11-man roster will look different next year when senior leaders Luke Schniederjans, Tyler Strafaci and U.S. Amateur champion Andy Ogletree graduate, opening the door for Kramer to earn a spot in the lineup.

“The fields in junior golf are so deep and guys are coming into college with the belief they’re competing with the same guys they always have been,” Kramer said. “It’s encouraging to see the success the guys before us had at a young age and I’m looking forward to continuing that and stepping in.”
