Loyola Chicago vs. Georgia Tech odds: Loyola slight favorites in Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Loyola Chicago Ramblers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 9-seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (17-8) meet the 8-seed Loyola Chicago Ramblers (24-4) Friday, March 19 in the first round of the Midwest Regional Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for a 4 p.m. ET tip-off.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Georgia Tech-Loyola Chicago odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Georgia Tech pulled off the mild upset over Florida State in the ACC Championship Game in Greensboro, N.C. as 4.5-point underdogs, winning the league title for the first time in 27 years. They hadn’t even appeared in the Final since 2010.

The Yellow Jackets had an assist from COVID, as Virginia was forced out of Saturday’s game due to a positive test within the program. But the Jackets beat Miami in the opener, and FSU in the title game, so take nothing away from the accomplishment of head coach Josh Pastner’s bunch.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets have won eight in a row, so they might be the hottest thing going from the ACC right now. They’re also 8-1 ATS across the past nine games overall while hitting the Over in four of the past five.

We all remember Loyola’s run to the Final Four as an 11-seed back in 2018, and who could forget Sister Jean? She is now 101 years old and hopeful of attending despite the COVID-19 global pandemic and restrictions.

Loyola owns an 8-seed this season, higher than their improbable 2018, but will the sequel be as good as the original run?

This team rambled through the Missouri Valley Conference tournament with wins over Southern Illinois, Indiana State and Drake by 10 or more points, covering all three games.

They’re also on a six-game win streak since a 51-50 overtime setback at Drake on Feb. 14. Their last loss in regulation came Jan. 10 at Indiana State.

The Ramblers were cover kings in-season, going 10-1-1 ATS during a 12-game stretch from Dec. 27-Feb. 1. Books adjusted, and the Ramblers hit the rocks, going 1-6 ATS in the final seven games to close out the regular season.

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (11-8 overall, 7-6 ACC) visit the Virginia Tech Hokies (14-4, 8-3) in a Tuesday night (7 p.m. ET) contest at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. Below, we analyze the Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech is No. 17 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Georgia Tech +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Virginia Tech -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Georgia Tech +1.5 (-105) | Virginia Tech -1.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 136.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech: Three things to know

  1. The Yellow Jackets logged strong defensive efforts in winning each of their last two games. GTU downed Pitt Feb. 14 and Miami (Fla.) Saturday. Those games represent a bounce-back from a stretch that saw the Jackets go just 2-5 from Jan. 23-Feb. 12.
  2. Virginia Tech hasn’t played since Feb. 6. The Hokies’ last home game was an impressive win over Virginia Jan. 30. VTU held UVA to just 51 points in that battle. The Hokies lead the ACC in scoring defense at 65.6 points per game. At home, Virginia Tech is 9-1 and has won seven in a row.
  3. Georgia Tech is a solid shooting team on the season and especially of late. Over their last five games, the Yellow Jackets have connected on 50.7% of their looks from the field. Their Achilles’ heel has been rebounding: GTU has been out-rebounded in eight of its last 10 games, often by commanding margins.

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Georgia Tech 69, Virginia Tech 67

Money line (ML)

PASS. The Jackets are a likable play to come through against a perhaps rusty and probably overrated VTU five. There is too much risk and too little reward, though, in the +110 tag.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Yellow Jackets are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against over-.500  foes. The underdog is 5-2 in the last seven games of this series.

A youthful Hokies’ backcourt is dealing with some injury and team-discipline issues. Georgia Tech’s 2-5 stretch a few weeks ago could have gone the other way; GTU had a couple close losses and solid performances against very good opponents.

A GTU shooting edge and a plus margin in turnovers figure as difference makers in this one: BACK GEORGIA TECH +1.5 (-105).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS on a well-made total and without much support data to peg more or less offense from that starting point.

Virginia at Georgia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Virginia Cavaliers at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Virginia Cavaliers (13-3 overall, 9-1 ACC) visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-6, 5-4) for a Wednesday evening ACC tilt at Hank McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Ga. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Virginia-Georgia Tech college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia is No. 9 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Virginia at Georgia Tech: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Georgia Tech +170 (bet $100 to win $170)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia -4.5 (-110) | Georgia Tech +4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 128.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia at Georgia Tech: Three things to know

  1. UVA squeaked by Tech 64-62 Jan. 23. The taut contest in Charlottesville, Va., included just 15 turnovers (only six for the Yellow Jackets) and 13 total free throws. Georgia Tech went a robust 9-for-15 (60%) from 3-point range.
  2. GTU has gone 2-2 since that first meeting. Both wins were at McCamish Pavilion, where the Yellow Jackets are 8-2 this season (8-0 since Dec. 6). Georgia Tech has averaged 80.3 points per game over its last three at home.
  3. Virginia is coming off a 73-66 home win over Pitt Saturday. The Cavaliers went 12-for-24 from distance in that game and since Jan. 13 are shooting 45.6 % on an average of 24.1 3-point attempts per contest.

Prediction

Virginia 66, Georgia Tech 63

Money line (ML)

PASS on prices that well-bracket advantage plays for the bettor.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against teams with winning records.

Parts of the market (inexplicably?) opened this line at UVA -2.5. The Wahoos’ last two road games were an ATS loss at Virginia Tech and a push at North Carolina State.

The Jackets chances in this game figure to be greatly influenced by their performance from distance and their ability to log some turnover-transition buckets. GTU is trending the right way in the former, and the two-possession cushion is just enough.

BACK THE YELLOW JACKETS +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS on a well-made total for what figures as a low-tempo game.

Georgia Tech at Louisville odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Louisville Cardinals odds and lines, with college basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-5 overall, 4-3 ACC) visit the Louisville Cardinals (10-4, 5-3) for a  Monday matinee at KFC Yum! Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Georgia Tech-Louisville college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Louisville was No. 23 in last week’s Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The new poll will be released Monday.

Georgia Tech at Louisville: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Georgia Tech +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Louisville -210 (bet $210 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Georgia Tech +4.5 (-110) | Louisville -4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 135.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Georgia Tech at Louisville: Three things to know

  1. Louisville returns to action after having a Saturday home game against Boston College postponed. The Cardinals are looking to gain some traction after losing three of four over the last two weeks of January. The reasoning behind the skid is twofold: A couple of tough ACC road games were in that mix, and a UL defense which held foes to a 38.8% field-goal mark through Jan. 13 has since allowed a 45.6% mark.
  2. Georgia Tech scored a 76-65 upset of No. 16 Florida State Saturday. Three players — F Moses Wright (23 points), G Jose Alvarado (21) and G Michael Devoe (19) combined to score 63 of the Yellow Jackets’ 76 points. Alvarado has scored 20-plus in six of GTU’s last seven games.
  3. The Jackets and Cards split two games last season with each side winning at home. The Under hit in both of those games (average game total of 126 points) and has prevailed in six straight series affairs.

Georgia Tech at Louisville: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Georgia Tech 68, Louisville 65

Money line (ML)

A UL rebounding edge is the only major factor keeping this game out of pick ’em territory. Leverage the fine price of the Yellow Jackets and BACK GEORGIA TECH (+170) for the upset win.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Jackets’ two losses as road dogs were games that were close late in the second half only to spike the wrong way late. GTU was impressive on the road at No. 8 Virginia Jan. 23. In most measures, save for offensive rebounding, Georgia Tech is playing its best basketball over the last couple of weeks.

Louisville is a fade candidate, a team perhaps getting too much attention because of a ranking number. Offensive and defensive efficiency numbers don’t support the ranking.

TAKE GEORGIA TECH +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

A game-flow getting this contest into the mid-130s seems all too likely. STEER CLEAR.

Georgia Tech at Duke odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Duke Blue Devils sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-4 overall, 3-2 ACC) visit the Duke Blue Devils (5-5, 3-3) in a Tuesday night contest at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Georgia Tech-Duke college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Georgia Tech at Duke: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Georgia Tech +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Duke -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Georgia Tech +6.5 (-120) | Duke -6.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 140.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Georgia Tech at Duke: Three things to know

  1. The Yellow Jackets gave a good effort but fell to the Virginia Cavaliers 64-62 Saturday. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for a Georgia Tech five which has yielded just 63.8 points per game over six games since Dec. 18.
  2. Duke is 5-0 when scoring at least 75 points and 0-5 when scoring less than 75. The Devils’ last three games fit into the latter group, and that’s a program first since 2016. On its current skid, Duke has shot just 41.3% from the floor and 29.3% from beyond the 3-point arc.
  3. Georgia Tech has found a groove from 3-point-land, and that’s made the Yellow Jackets much more dangerous offensively. GTU connected on just 29.5% of its distance looks in its first five games; the Jackets have shot 46.3% since. Georgia Tech’s 38.3% mark for the season ranks fourth in the ACC.

Georgia Tech at Duke: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Duke 73, Georgia Tech 68

Money line (ML)

Georgia Tech hasn’t beaten Duke since 2010. Peg the Jackets as having a better-than-1-in-3 chance here, so there is a bit of value in a GEORGIA TECH +200 play.

Against the spread (ATS)

Duke is 0-6 ATS in its last six games as a home favorite. GTU is 10-3 ATS over its last 13 games after a loss.

The Devils are 1-9 ATS overall. Usually, a mark like that against an ATS winner in a conference game is a decent angle but the Yellow Jackets’ recent play makes them an intriguing lean. That’s if they get enough of a cushion.

Back GEORGIA TECH +6.5 (-120).

Over/Under (O/U)

A middling pace is expected, and this total is draped all over the probable game-flow outcomes. PASS.

North Carolina at Georgia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s North Carolina Tar Heels at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The North Carolina Tar Heels (5-3, 0-1 ACC) visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4-3, 0-1) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tip at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. Below, we analyze the North Carolina-Georgia Tech college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

North Carolina at Georgia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: North Carolina -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Georgia Tech +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: North Carolina -3.5 (-110) | Georgia Tech +3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 142.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

North Carolina at Georgia Tech: Three things to know

  1. The Tar Heels headed east on I-40 last time out Dec. 22 and were upset by rival NC State, 79-76. The Tar Heels are just 2-3 SU/1-4 ATS after opening 3-0 SU/2-0-1 ATS in the first three games. The Under has cashed in six of eight games so far for Roy’s boys.
  2. After a conference opener loss at Florida State, the Yellow Jackets have built back some confidence smacking around a pair of MEAC teams in Florida A&M and Delaware State. While they failed to cover in each, the win over Del State was particularly impressive, as they scored 97 points in the 28-point win, hitting the Over for the second-straight outing.
  3. The Under is 5-2 in UNC’s past seven road games, while the Over is 4-1-1 in Ga. Tech’s past six at McCamish. The favorite has connected in seven of the past 10 meetings in this series, too.

North Carolina at Georgia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

North Carolina 77, Georgia Tech 70

Money line (ML)

NORTH CAROLINA (-175) is right about at my personal limit to lay on a money line favorite. In this particular instance it’s a safe play, as I am not feeling the Heels very strongly to win by two buckets after their most recent showing in Raleigh against State.

Against the spread (ATS)

NORTH CAROLINA -3.5 (-110) is the lean, but only very, very slightly. As mentioned, the favorite is 7-3 ATS in the past 10 in this series. But UNC is 1-4-1 ATS across the past 10, and 0-4-1 ATS in the past five against teams with an overall winning record, so you’re going against the trends. Sometimes trends are made to be broken, however.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 142.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit wager, too. The Under is 6-2 for UNC this season, but it cashed last time out. While the 74.4 PPG average of the Heels is rather ordinary, they have gone for 78 or more points in four of their outings. And while Ga. Tech has faced a bunch of tomato cans at home so far, the Over is 4-1 in its five games at McCamish so far.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Panthers (5-5, 4-5 ACC) visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-6, 3-5) Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Pittsburgh-Georgia Tech college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pittsburgh -250 (bet $250 to win $100) | Georgia Tech +200 (bet $100 to win $200)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pittsburgh -6.5 (-120) | Georgia Tech +6.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 53.5 (O: -125 | U: +105)

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Three things to know

  1. Pitt was worked over 52-17 at Clemson last time out, splashing a little cold water on a modest two-game win streak. The Panthers have lost to the good teams, and taken care of the poor ones on their schedule. They averaged 44.0 points per game in two wins at Florida State and against Virginia Tech, covering the spread in both outings.
  2. The good news for Georgia Tech is it allowed just 23 points last week at NC State, their best defensive showing since a 16-13 win at Florida State in its season opener. The bad news is it lost by 10, failing to cover as a touchdown underdog.
  3. Pitt has been a little erratic on the line, going 3-6-1 ATS in 10 games to date. Total bettors have found the Panthers to be plenty consistent, hitting the Over in seven straight. The Panthers are averaging 28.5 PPG while allowing 25.0 PPG.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pittsburgh 37, Georgia Tech 26

Money line (ML)

Pittsburgh (-250) has been good when playing the dregs of the ACC while being outclassed against the contenders. Still, the Panthers have been so erratic that risking two and a half times your potential return is just not a good decision. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

PITTSBURGH -6.5 (-120) will cost you a little extra juice on this side, but it’s a good play. Georgia Tech is just 4-10 ATS in its past 14 at home, including 3-8 ATS in its past 11 as a home dog.

The Yellow Jackets are also 0-6 ATS in their past six games following a cover. The road team has connected in five of the past seven in this series, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 53.5 (-125) is the play here, cashing in seven straight conference tilts for the Panthers. The Over is 4-0 in their past four appearances on Thursday while going 5-0 in their past five on the road. The Over is also 6-1 in the past seven at home for the Ramblin’ Wreck, while going 8-1 in their past nine following a non-cover. This is the best play on the board for Thursday.
