Georgia named as leader for nation’s No. 1 transfer

The Georgia Bulldogs are the favorites to land the nation’s top ranked player in the transfer portal

The Georgia Bulldogs have been named as the most likely landing spot for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets transfer wide receiver Eric Singleton. Singleton, who was Georgia Tech’s leading receiver in 2024, is 247Sports’ No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal.

“Eric Singleton is the No. 1 player in the portal right now. That is the Georgia Tech wide receiver. And he is looking strongly at Georgia. I would call Georgia the leader in the clubhouse for his services right now,” said 247Sports college football expert Josh Pate. “He is a legit deep threat explosive pass catcher.”

Why is Georgia the leader for Eric Singleton? Well, Georgia has three of the top 20 leading receivers in the NFL right now. And Georgia has Singleton’s former wide receivers coach, Josh Crawford on its coaching staff (Crawford is now UGA’s running backs coach). Those pitches combined with Georgia’s robust Name, Image and Likeness budget give Georgia a strong chance to land Singleton.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound sophomore from Douglasville, Georgia, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Singleton is the top receiver in the transfer portal. He recorded eight catches for 86 yards and one touchdown in Georgia Tech’s eight-overtime loss to Georgia, so the Bulldogs have seen what he is capable of firsthand.

Singleton has 56 receptions for 754 receiving yards (Georgia Tech team-high) and three touchdowns. The sophomore is also a threat as a rusher. He has 21 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Singleton is excellent after the catch and is a very versatile athlete.

Singleton also has visits set up to the Ole Miss Rebels and Auburn Tigers.

Georgia is looking to address the wide receiver position in the portal this offseason because Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith and Colbie Young are potentially departing to the NFL. UGA has already lost two wide receivers to the transfer portal in Michael Jackson.

The transfer portal is open from Dec. 9 to Dec. 28. Georgia’s College Football Playoff quarterfinal game is in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET.

Georgia Tech’s leading receiver visiting Georgia

Georgia Tech’s leading receiver, who is in the transfer portal, is planning a visit with UGA

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets transfer wide receiver Eric Singleton is reportedly going to visit the Georgia Bulldogs. Singleton, who is Georgia Tech’s leading receiver, is an explosive pass catcher that would immediately contribute for Georgia.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound sophomore from Douglasville, Georgia, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Singleton is one of the top receivers in the transfer portal. He recorded eight catches for 86 yards and one touchdown in Georgia Tech’s eight-overtime loss to Georgia, so the Bulldogs have seen what he is capable of firsthand.

Singleton has 56 receptions for 754 receiving yards (team-high) and three touchdowns. The sophomore is also a threat as a rusher. He has 21 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Singleton is excellent after the catch.

Singleton also has visits set up with the Ole Miss Rebels and Auburn Tigers.

We don’t know what Georgia coach Kirby Smart said to Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key after the Bulldogs’ 44-42 victory. However, if Smart said that he’s going to take Key’s best receiver now that UGA beat Tech in eight overtimes, then that would’ve not been very nice of him. Todd Kirkland/Getty Images

Georgia is looking to address the wide receiver position in the portal this offseason because Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith and Colbie Young are potentially departing. UGA has already lost two wide receivers to the transfer portal: Michael Jackson and Nitro Tuggle.

Kirby Smart justifies CFB’s new overtime rules

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart talks the new college football overtime rules that end the game with alternating two-point conversions

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart spoke with the media following Georgia’s epic 44-42 victory in eight overtimes against Georgia Tech.

College football overtime rules recently changed to force teams to do continuous two-point conversions following the second overtime period. In the old days, teams would start from the 25 yardline and be forced to do two-point attempts after touchdowns starting in the third overtime.

Essentially, the new rules turn the game into a battle of two-point conversions where any play is do-or-die. Each conversion could win, lose, or extend the game.

Smart had not experienced the new overtime rules as Georgia’s head coach until the Georgia Tech game.

“Well, if they played it out like it used to be, we might still be out there. That’s why they changed it,” Smart said after the game.

Georgia looked pretty exhausted after facing a grueling SEC schedule and 10 total Power Four opponents.

“And that was a long… when I look at it, we played 84 plays. We played 84 plays on our defense, and then our offense had 69, which that’s partly our own fault. But when you go to overtime, man, it could be really… I was part of that game. And the reason they changed that was because of that,” said Smart.

At a certain point, players do get worn down, but overtime games are rare and there has to be a better way for the game to be decided. Nonstop two-point conversions just don’t have the flow of a normal football game. Perhaps having offense start from a further distance would help shorten overtimes.

“I mean, we’ve got to play another game next week, so somebody’s sitting out there like, keep playing. Keep more snaps you play. We’re a beat-up football team, guys. We are a beat up,” Smart continued. Georgia won’t have long to lick its wounds. The Bulldogs play in the SEC championship game on Saturday.

“We need to get well, and it’s not going to happen this week. So we’ve got to keep getting better,” added Smart.

Georgia desperately needs to win the SEC championship so the Dawgs can get a bye in the first-round of the College Football Playoff.

What Kirby Smart, Brent Key said during lengthy hug

What did Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Tech’s Brent Key say during their long hug with each other?

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key and Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart had a lengthy embrace following Georgia’s epic 44-42 win over Georgia Tech in eight overtimes.

The loss was heartbreaking for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in regulation and held a 17-0 lead at halftime. Georgia Tech had multiple chances to win in overtime, but were unable to finish their upset bid.

So what did Kirby Smart and Brent Key say to each other during their hug?

“I’ll just keep it between he and I,” Smart said on their embrace. “We’re both competitors. We have respect for each other. We played here in the same area, we played against each other, we recruited against each other. We don’t get to share thoughts and ideas and have break bread and have tea very often.”

Smart played college football at Georgia and Key played college football at Georgia Tech, so the rivalry is in their blood.

“So when we get a chance to talk and show respect to each other, I think being competitors, it’s a hard game, and nobody knows what it’s like to sit on that sideline and go through that pain and the highs, the lows, we’re going to win, we’re going to lose, we’re going to win, we’re going to lose. I mean, he was emotionally spent, and so was I,” said Smart.

There’s no doubt that both Georgia and Georgia Tech had a ton of plays where they could’ve won the game in overtime. Ultimately, Georgia running back Nate Frazier had a game-winning two-point conversion to the jubilation of UGA fans.

“We probably know what each other goes through for our fan bases better than anybody. Nobody else has been in those shoes and had to deal with that and do that,” continued Smart. “He’s done a tremendous job turning that program around.”

Smart has a lot of respect for Brent Key and Georgia Tech. The Georgia-Georgia Tech rivalry used to be a cakewalk for Georgia, but the times have changed under Key.

Smart clearly has empathy for Key. “What do you think? Yeah. Probably in my career, my life,” said Key on if the Georgia loss is the toughest one he’s ever experienced.

[lawrence-auto-related count=2]

“It’s tough. I love that team in there. They fought their asses off. There’s no moral victories,” said Key. “But I’m proud of those guys. And we’ll use this to continue to fuel us, to continue to improve in all areas of the program. Georgia Tech’s special, these kids are special.”

Georgia Tech has a lot to be proud of, but they’ll be having nightmares about this loss to Georgia for a long time.

Social media reacts to Georgia’s 8OT win vs. Georgia Tech

UGA football fans can’t believe Georgia’s miracle win over Georgia Tech

Georgia Bulldogs fans enjoyed one of the most memorable games in Sanford Stadium history in Georgia’s 44-42 overtime win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Georgia Tech. It only took Georgia eight overtimes to beat Georgia Tech, which made Georgia’s win the second longest game in college football history.

Georgia’s win was not pretty. The Yellow Jackets came to play and gave the Georgia defense fits all night. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King finished the day with 413 total yards and five total touchdowns.

Georgia never held a lead in regulation and went just two of seven on two-point attempts. The Bulldogs never gave up. UGA’s offense mounted several clutch drives in the fourth quarter to stay in the game. Carson Beck threw for 297 passing yards and five touchdowns.

How did Georgia football fans and media react to UGA’s stunning win over Georgia Tech?

“Georgia had six points through three quarters and won 44-42. I’ll never understand it,” said Benjamin Wolk.

“The best in Georgia play at Georgia!!,” said Georgia staffer James Ellis.

“It was fun when we were all Georgia Tech fans for a couple of hours,” said one fan on social media.

“The Georgia senior class will leave Athens without ever having lost to Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Auburn,” said Radi Nabulsi via social media.

Georgia wins instant-classic in 8OT vs. Georgia Tech

Georgia football wins the second-longest game in college football history against Georgia Tech

The Georgia Bulldogs overcame a 17-0 halftime deficit against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to win 44-42 in eight overtimes. Georgia did not hold a lead during regulation and faced deficits of 20-6 and 27-13 in the second half.

Georgia won its 31st straight home game in what finished as the second-longest game in college football history. Georgia has now won seven straight games over Georgia Tech, but it is clear that the Yellow Jackets are closing the gap on Georgia.

Georgia won after stopping five of Georgia Tech’s six two-point attempts in overtime. The Bulldogs only converted a pair of two-point conversions in overtime, but it proved to be enough. UGA running back Nate Frazier had the winning two-point conversion in the eighth overtime to mercifully send fans home.

Georgia Tech outplayed Georgia for much of the game. The Yellow Jackets outgained Georgia 563-405. However, Georgia’s defense got key red zone stops throughout the game.

The game changed in the fourth quarter. Georgia outscored Georgia Tech 21-6 in the fourth quarter and forced a Georgia Tech turnover to set up quarterback Carson Beck and UGA for a game-tying touchdown.

Beck finished the game 28 of 43 for 297 passing yards and five touchdowns. He and the Georgia offense stepped up after a scoreless first half, but struggled with two point conversions.

Georgia’s next game will be against the winner of the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns game in the 2024 SEC championship.

Georgia-Georgia Tech injury report

Georgia Bulldogs football injury report ahead of UGA’s game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without several starters against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Georgia-Georgia Tech game is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 29.

Georgia has a significant amount of injuries at running back. Running backs Branson Robinson (knee) and Roderick Robinson (toe) are nearing a return and may be able to give it a go against Georgia Tech. True freshman Nate Frazier is expected to continue to carry the load for the UGA backfield. Starting running back Trevor Etienne missed the UMass game with a ribs injury.

“Rod (Robinson II) has done practice, contact. Has done taking reps. He’s looked good out there,” said Smart. “Branson (Robinson) has too. Branson is taking some. I didn’t get to see the last part of practice to know how much Branson and Rod did early in practice. They did take some reps in with the twos.”

Georgia offensive linemen Micah Morris and Earnest Greene are both banged up. “He’s done more this week. He’s actually worked at right and left (tackle),” said Smart on Earnest Greene.

“(Defensive tackle) Christen Miller not much. He’s been banged up. Recovering, running, doing some treatment stuff,” said Kirby Smart. Miller left the UMass game with a shoulder injury.

“(Wide receiver) Dillon Bell, a little bit. He’s done some walkthroughs with us and taking some reps. We’re just trying to get those guys healthy and ready.” Smart continued on Miller and Bell. Bell is dealing with an ankle injury.

On the Georgia Tech side of the things, the Yellow Jackets’ normal starting quarterback, Haynes King, is very limited as a passer. Fans should expect for Georgia Tech to play quarterback Aaron Philo in passing situations.

Georgia defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, who is a former five-star recruit, is out for the season.

Clemson loses 2025 4-star Tae Harris to a commitment flip to Georgia Tech

Harris makes it official.

Clemson football’s 2025 recruiting class took another major blow with 4-star safety Tae Harris flipping to Georgia Tech.

Harris, ranked among the top 50 overall prospects by Rivals and ESPN, announced his decision after attending Georgia Tech’s win over NC State. Originally committed to Clemson in July, Harris becomes the Tigers’ sixth decommitment for the 2025 class and their fifth since August.

Harris previously decommitted from Georgia earlier this year after a staff change. A standout in football and track, he plans to compete in college athletics across both sports. His departure leaves Clemson’s 2025 class without any cornerback commitments, as Graceson Littleton also flipped earlier this month.

The Tigers, now ranked 29th in the 247Sports Team Composite, are navigating an increasingly competitive recruiting environment shaped by NIL opportunities and evolving priorities. This marks a growing challenge for Clemson as traditional recruiting strategies face greater disruption in the modern landscape.

NC State ran 1 of the worst trick plays in college football history against Georgia Tech

Oh NO.

NC State ran one of the worst trick plays of all time in college football against hosting Georgia Tech on Thursday night.

In a terrible play design that should be banished from the face of the Earth, the Wolfpack shifted its formation to send most of its offensive line out wide and just put the center and quarterback out for a long snap.

Well, Georgia Tech linebacker E.J. Lightsey positioned himself to make the play of the night when a quick toss from NC State quarterback CJ Bailey bounced off wide receiver KC Concepcion’s hands and hopped right into Lightsey’s possession for a fumble recovered for a touchdown.

You have to feel awful for the NC State players because why in the world would you run a play like this? The whole formation looked doomed from the start, so the ugly finish wasn’t a huge surprise.

Let’s never do this again, NC State. Please.
