Georgia celebrates redemption over South Carolina by stealing hedges

Georgia football players celebrate their redemption over South Carolina by stealing parts of their hedges.

On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs easily took down the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia by a final score of 45 – 16.  This comes just one season after the Gamecocks upset the Dawgs in Sanford with a 20 -17 double overtime victory.

After that game, South Carolina players ripped out parts of Georgia’s historic hedges as a souvenir.  It was quite the opposite for the Gamecocks in 2020.

Georgia’s defense held Carolina to just 83 yards on the ground and 273 total yards.  Kirby Smart went with a run heavy approach, only throwing the ball 16 times in the game.  The Dawgs’ running backs showed up, combining for 351 yards on the ground.

Linebackers Monty Rice and Jermaine Johnson took home a souvenir of their own, grabbing some of South Carolina’s hedges to go back to Athens.

Georgia moves to 6-2 after their win, placing them second in the SEC East behind Florida with just two more games left in the season.

The Dawgs play the 0-8 Vanderbilt Commodores at home next week.

UGA football releases hype video for South Carolina game

Georgia football has released a hype video of the UGA vs South Carolina game.

The Georgia Bulldogs, which rank No. 9 in the country in the College Football Playoff rankings, are set to face South Carolina this Saturday in Columbia.

The Dawgs are looking for revenge against the Gamecocks, the team that gave UGA its only loss during the 2019 season.

Prior to the matchup, the Georgia video team released a 60-second video called “The Standard” that featured some of UGA’s greatest plays against the Gamecocks and highlights of last week’s win over Mississippi State.

Why Georgia Will Win

And now the Bulldogs have a quarterback.

Stetson Bennett wasn’t bad, and D’Wan Mathis had a few decent moments, but there’s a reason JT Daniels was JT Five-Star going to USC. He was also a high school senior when he started for the Trojans – it was always going to take some time for him to grow and mature into the job.

It’s not exactly time to assume Daniels is going to win a Heisman after just one game, but 28-of-38, 401 yards, four touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a downfield passing game against Mississippi State that’s been painfully missing from the Georgia offense for years.

You think that’s an overstatement? Daniels averaged 10.6 yards per attempt last week – the offense failed to hit ten yards per try all year, and went 17 straight games as a program without getting there.

Georgia only averaged over ten yards per pass twice last season – against Murray State and Arkansas State, not Mississippi State.

South Carolina is allowing nine yards per throw and gives up 278 passing yards per game.

Why South Carolina Will Win

Uhhhhh, Georgia running game?

Yeah, Daniels was fantastic, and there was no reason to go away from him and the passing game, but the running game went nowhere against Miss State with just eight yards on 23 carries.

Three MSU sacks and 11 tackles for loss had something to do with that.

South Carolina isn’t generating a whole lot of pass rush, but the run defense wasn’t bad against Missouri, Kevin Harris is a nice running back to work around, and Georgia’s defense doesn’t do a whole lot to get into the backfield.

The Gamecocks have to hold up on the lines, and they need a few breaks, and ….

What’s Going To Happen

Israel Mukuamu isn’t around anymore after opting out.

The former star defensive back single-handedly screwed up Georgia last year with three interceptions including a pick-six in South Carolina’s 20-17 win. This isn’t a Gamecock team, though, that’s catching – or forcing – a lot of positive breaks.

The Georgia defense will hold down a USC offense that scored ten points against Missouri last week and three a few weeks earlier against Texas A&M, and Daniels will have another strong day.

BetMGM has Georgia as a big favorite over South Carolina

Per BetMGM, Georgia football is a big favorite for the UGA vs South Carolina game.

This weekend, the Georgia Bulldogs will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia.

The Bulldogs, who were embarrassingly upset by the Gamecocks last year, will look to avenge that loss on Saturday.

Georgia should take care of business, seeing as how South Carolina is 2-6 and recently fired its head coach Will Muschamp.

According to BetMGM, Georgia is a 19.5-point favorite over South Carolina. The over/under is set at 50.5.

Last year, the Gamecocks came into Athens and gave UGA its only loss of the season.
