It wasn’t the first half Georgia fans were hoping for, but it is still very manageable for Kirby’s Dawgs.
Georgia started the game with a disaster play when center Trey Hill had a wild snap, resulting in a Tennessee defensive touchdown.
The Dawgs fired back in the first quarter on a good drive, capping it off with a Zamir White 1-yard touchdown run. The first quarter finished with a score of 7-7.
After a Georgia defensive stop, Stetson Bennett led a long drive for the Dawgs. Bennett ran for a 10-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper, diving for the pylon and giving Georgia a 14-7 lead.
Tennessee senior quarterback Jarrett Guarantano made the Bulldogs pay for going for it on 4th down in UGA territory. Following a turnover on downs, Guarantano hooked up with senior wide receiver Josh Palmer for a 36-yard touchdown.
Georgia freshman wide receiver Jermaine Burton broke free for a 43-yard run, setting up kicker Jack Podlesny to drill home a 47-yard field goal, giving Georgia a 17-14 lead.
The next drive Guarantano found his man again, throwing a 27-yard strike to Palmer for his second touchdown on the day.
Georgia got to the one-yard-line on its last drive but Zamir White was stuffed by the Volunteers defense multiple times, resulting in the end of the half.
Tennessee leads Georgia 21-17 and will receive the ball to start the half.
