Georgia’s most recent decommitment projected to commit to Georgia Tech

Former Georgia football four-star commit projected to commit to Georgia Tech

Four-star defensive lineman Christian Garrrett is projected to commit to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Garrett recently decommitted from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Garrett is ranked as the No. 138 player in the 2025 recruiting cycle and plays high school football for Prince Avenue Christian in Bogart, Georgia. Christian Garrett ranks as the No. 17 defensive lineman and No. 17 prospect in Georgia, per 247Sports.

He was Georgia’s top defensive line commitment in the class of 2025. Georgia is still projected to land two five-star recruits along the defensive line in the 2025 cycle, but Garrett’s potential flip to Georgia Tech hurts the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive line recruit would be one of Georgia Tech’s top commitments in recent memory. The Yellow Jackets are hot on the recruiting trail right now. Georgia Tech just landed a commitment from five-star Peach State offensive lineman Josh Petty and are now looking to solidify the other side of the trenches.

Georgia Tech still has a long way to catch up to Georgia in terms of talent. Georgia has the No. 4 recruiting class in the country while Georgia Tech has the nation’s No. 20 class of 2025.

Four-star DL decommits from Georgia football

Georgia football falls in the recruiting rankings after latest decommitment

Four-star defensive line recruit Christian Garrett decommitted from the Georgia Bulldogs. Garrett had been committed to Georgia for just over two months. He originally committed to the Bulldogs on June 9.

Garrett’s decommitment is a blow for Georgia. Garrett was Georgia’s highest-ranked defensive line commitment. Georgia’s other two defensive line commitments are both rated as three-star recruits.

The four-star’s decommitment drops Georgia to the No. 4 recruiting class in the country. LSU passed Georgia as a result of Garrett’s decommitment.

Garrett is ranked as 138th player in the 2025 recruiting cycle and plays high school football for Prince Avenue Christian in Bogart, Georgia. Christian Garrett ranks as the No. 17 defensive lineman and No. 17 prospect in Georgia, per 247Sports.

Garrett is also considering Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Alabama. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive line recruit is a good student with a 3.9 GPA, per his X account. Garrett competes in track and field in addition to football.

Garrett went on official visits to Clemson, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee over the summer. However, Georgia Tech is considered the top contender to land Garrett.

4-star DB Jontae Gilbert commits to Georgia football

Four-star Peach State cornerback recruit Jontae Gilbert has made his college decision

Four-star defensive back recruit Jontae Gilbert has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and NC State Wolfpack. Gilbert is a member of the class of 2025 and plays high school football for Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback announced his commitment to Georgia at his high school. Gilbert is ranked as the No. 19 cornerback in the country, according to 247Sports. Gilbert is the No. 138 prospect in the nation and the No. 19 recruit in Georgia.

The Frederick Douglass standout is Georgia’s fifth defensive back commitment in the class of 2025 (includes safety/running back prospect Todd Robinson). Fourteen of Georgia’s 23 commitments in the 2025 cycle are in-state prospects. The Dawgs signed just 10 in-state recruits in the class of 2024.

Now, the Bulldogs have the second-best recruiting class in the SEC behind Alabama and the No. 3 recruiting class in the country.

In his film, the four-star shows versatility. Gilbert lines up both in the slot and on the outside. The Peach State standout plays wide receiver in addition to cornerback and shows impressive body control when the ball is in the air.

Georgia Tech projected to land its first 5-star since 2004

Georgia Tech football may be becoming more competitive with Georgia for the best in-state recruits

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are projected to land a commitment from its first five-star recruit since 2004. 247Sports projects the Yellow Jackets will add a commitment from five-star offensive tackle recruit Josh Petty.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle is the 14th best player in the country. Petty is the fourth-ranked recruit in Georgia and the top offensive tackle in the Peach State. The Georgia Tech recruiting target is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation.

If Petty signs with Georgia Tech and maintains his five-star ranking as a recruit, he would be the second five-star signee in Georgia Tech school history (according to 247Sports). Georgia Tech signed five-star wide receiver Calvin Johnson in the class of 2004.

One of the Georgia Bulldogs’ top advantages over other college football programs is their lack of in-state recruiting competition. There’s no other state with as many elite recruits and so little in-state recruiting competition. However, Georgia Tech’s potential emergence on the recruiting trail would represent a significant change for Georgia.

Georgia Tech has not finished with a top 40 recruiting class since the 2020 cycle, so the Yellow Jackets may not be an imminent threat to Georgia’s consistent haul of top-three recruiting classes. However, the Yellow Jackets are making progress under head coach Brent Key and are a thorn in the side of the Bulldogs with much greater frequency these days.

For now, head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia run the Peach State. The Bulldogs have earned commitments from eight of the state’s top 30 recruits in the 2025 cycle and are projected to land several more top in-state recruits. No other program has more than two commitments from top 30 recruits in Georgia.
