Mount St. Mary’s star transfer names top four schools

The Bulldogs are in need of incoming guard production in light of the exit of Noah Thomasson and the uncertainty surrounding freshman Silas Demary Jr.

A highly coveted basketball transfer target has named Georgia to his top four. De’Shayne Montgomery, a guard who played his freshman year at Mount St. Mary’s, named the Dawgs alongside Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern California.

Montgomery is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds and is coming off of a breakout season for the Mountaineers. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, while coming on strong toward the end of the year where he scored over 24 points in four of the final five games. He was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rookie of the year for his performance.

The Bulldogs and head coach Mike White are in dire need of incoming guard production in light of the exit of Noah Thomasson and the uncertainty surrounding freshman Silas Demary Jr. Montgomery would bring immediate experience and production as the Dawgs look to become contenders in the SEC, where they finished 11th this year.

Georgia routed by Seton Hall, ending NIT run

The Georgia Bulldogs run to the NIT semifinals ended Tuesday night with a defeat to the Seton Hall Pirates.

The Georgia Bulldogs run to the National Invitational Tournament semifinals ended Tuesday night in Indianapolis in an 84-67 loss to the Seton Hall Pirates. This loss ends head coach Mike White’s second season with a final record of 20-17, a slight improvement on last season’s 16-16 finish.

The Pirates got off to a hot start, while the Bulldogs struggled to find any rhythm offensively, leading to a halftime score of 42-25 in favor of Seton Hall. The two teams would score an even 42 in the second half, but Georgia never cut the lead to fewer than 11 points.

Silas Demary Jr. was the Bulldogs leading scorer, with 19 points in addition to four assists and three rebounds. The Dawgs as a team shot only 38.5% from the field and 19.2% from three, while the Pirates managed to shoot 47.1% and 40% respectively and also outrebounded the Dawgs 45 to 32.

Seton Hall will advance to the NIT final against the Indiana State Sycamores, while Georgia will begin to prepare for the 2024-2025 season.

Prediction: Georgia 76, Seton Hall 74

At this point, we are buying into Georgia’s NIT tournament run. The Bulldogs defeated two Power Five teams on the road in back-to-back games and should have what it takes to beat the Pirates.

Former Georgia basketball guard, four-star recruit enters the transfer portal after spending one season at Texas Tech

Former Georgia basketball guard KyeRon Lindsay is entering the NCAA transfer portal again. Lindsay played a portion of the 2022-2023 season with Georgia before transferring to Texas Tech.

Lindsay joins former Georgia guard KD Johnson in the transfer portal for a second time this offseason.

Prediction: Ohio State 80, Georgia 72

Georgia will put up a fight, but Ohio State is a tough team to beat at home. We think Georgia’s NIT run comes to an end against the Buckeyes.

Georgia basketball falls to Florida in SEC Tournament

UGA basketball falls to Florida for third time this season in the SEC Tournament, finishes year 17-16

The Georgia Bulldogs lost to the Florida Gators, 85-80, in the SEC Tournament. Georgia fought hard against the Gators, but fell to 0-3 versus their hated rivals this season.

Georgia held a lead for much of the late first and early second half. The Dawgs, who were coming off a win over Missouri, kept things interesting, but were unable to breakthrough. Florida outrebounded Georgia, 53-36, and scored 51 points in the second half.

Georgia falls to 17-16 on the season. The Bulldogs, who went 6-12 in SEC action, won’t make the NCAA Tournament. Georgia has a shot to make the National Invitational Tournament, but that even may be a stretch. Senior Noah Thomasson scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs against Florida.

Second year head coach Mike White and Georgia finish the year with a winning record for the first time since 2020-2021. However, the Bulldogs struggled against SEC opponents after winning 10-straight games from November to January.

Georgia is currently the No. 100 team in the NET rankings. The Bulldogs did well against a solid nonconfernece schedule, but were unable to win some critical close games in SEC play.

The NCAA transfer portal opens on March 18. Georgia is certain to see a significant amount of roster turnover following the season.

Georgia basketball’s SEC Tournament path revealed

The SEC Tournament bracket has been revealed! UGA basketball opens against Missouri

The Georgia Bulldogs (16-15, 6-12) begin SEC Tournament play on Wednesday, March 13 against the Missouri Tigers (8-23, 0-18) at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs would have to win five games in five days to win the SEC Tournament.

Georgia basketball finished the year as the No. 11 seed in the conference. The Bulldogs defeated Missouri, 75-68, in January. Missouri has not won a game since defeating Central Arkansas on Dec. 30, 2023.

Georgia should defeat Missouri. If the Bulldogs win, Georgia would face No. 6 seed Florida on Thursday, March 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The winner of that game would face Alabama in the quarterfinals.

Head coach Mike White and Georgia basketball can secure a better season in 2023-2024 than last season with a win over Missouri. Georgia, which would clinch a winning season with a win against Missouri, has not finished with a winning season since 2020-2021.

Georgia basketball lost its season finale against Auburn, but has played a little bit better in recent weeks.

Auburn at Georgia basketball: TV, preview and prediction

Georgia basketball looks to add a ranked win over No. 14 Auburn at home on Saturday

The Georgia Bulldogs (15-11, 5-8) basketball team finally snapped a six game losing streak earlier this week at Vanderbilt. Georgia has a massive home game against the No. 14 Auburn Tigers (20-6, 9-4) in an SEC battle on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The Georgia-Auburn game will be televised on the SEC Network.

Head coach Mike White and the Bulldogs must win against Auburn to maintain any sort of realistic NCAA Tournament hopes. Georgia is currently the No. 95 team in the country according to the NET rankings. Auburn is No. 7 in the NET rankings.

Georgia faces Auburn twice over its final five games of the regular season. The Bulldogs have to go 4-1 or 5-0 over the next five games to have a decent chance at sneaking in the NCAA Tournament. Otherwise, Georgia will have to settle for a National Invitational Tournament appearance, unless the Bulldogs can put together a magical run in the SEC Tournament.

Georgia’s leading scorer is Jabri Abdur-Rahim at 12.7 points per game.  Auburn forward Johni Broom is the Tigers’ leading scorer at 16.1 points per game. ESPN gives Auburn a 81.4% chance to defeat Georgia.

Prediction: Auburn 81, Georgia 73

Georgia will keep it interesting against Auburn since the Bulldogs are at home, but we just can’t trust this Georgia team in the second half. The Bulldogs average just 11.9 assists per game, which is No. 281 (tied) in the country. Auburn’s superior offense will be too much for the Bulldogs.

SEC Tournament projections: Where does Georgia basketball stand?

SEC Tournament outlook using current conference standings.

After starting out hot, Georgia basketball is in a slump as the SEC Tournament grows closer. UGA has until March 13 to get back on track and secure a better seed.

The Bulldogs were 12-3 headed into a matchup with No. 5 Tennessee on Jan. 13, riding 10-game win streak. Since that six-point loss to the Vols, Georgia has gone 3-7 in its last 10 games, including a stretch of six-straight losses.

UGA is likely out of NCAA Tournament contention, but that doesn’t mean an SEC Tournament run is out of the cards. All 14 SEC teams will participate in the event.

The Bulldogs need to build off a 76-64 win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday to get a better slot in the conference tournament. Georgia currently sits 11th in the SEC, which projects UGA as an 11th seed. That would pit the Bulldogs against No. 14-seed Missouri (8-18, 0-13 SEC) in the first round.

The first four seeds of the tournament are given a bye through the first two rounds, while the top 10 seeds will get a first-round bye. If the Bulldogs’ win their matchup, they’ll take on the No. 6 seed in the second round. That’s only the beginning of a tough route against some of the best teams in the country.
