UGA basketball loses to Texas A&M on last second shot

The Georgia Bulldogs fought hard, but lost a heartbreaker in their SEC opener against the Texas A&M Aggies. Georgia took their first lead of the game after Kario Oquendo made a free throw with five seconds left.

Then, Texas A&M guard Marcus Williams dribbled up the court and hit a three-pointer with under one second remaining. Additional time was added to the clock, but Georgia was unable to respond to Williams’ last second shot.

The win moves Texas A&M to 12-2. Georgia basketball falls to 5-9 on the season. Head coach Tom Crean and Georgia showed resilience to battle back after trailing by 12 at halftime. The Dawgs outscored the Aggies 45-35 in the second half, but it was not enough.

Kario Oquendo scored 21 points to lead UGA in scoring. Noah Baumann, a USC transfer, added 19 points for the Dawgs. Texas A&M guard Henry Coleman III shot efficiently on his way to a team-high 23 points.

Next, Georgia will travel to Rupp Arena to face the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats on Jan. 8.

P.J. Horne transferred to Georgia to be closer to home. The Virginia Tech transfer made Georgia basketball history with his shot to defeat Kentucky.

Georgia basketball is now 9-4 on the season, but is only 2-4 in SEC play. John Calipari and Kentucky are 4-9 in their worst start to a season in quite some time. The Wildcats are 3-3 in conference action.
