Texas A&M officially signs two of its top 2024 basketball recruits

Texas A&M has officially signed its 2024 four-star recruits in point guard Andre Mills and forward George Turkson earlier this week.

Texas A&M’s flourishing basketball program under the watchful eye of fifth-year head coach Buzz Williams is off to a solid start during the 2023-2024 season, opening the year with a convincing 78-46 win over Texas A&M Commerce on Monday night.

While the roster is as deep as it has been under Williams this season, preparing for future departures, including senior guard Tyrece “Boots” Radford and senior forwards Henry Coleman and Julius Marble.

The good news? The program has officially signed its two 2024 recruits, as four-star guard Andre Mills and four-star forward George Turkson are sure to make an immediate impact as soon as they step on campus. After the pen hit the paper, Texas A&M Assistant coach Lyle Wolf had this to say about both players, who are unequivocally high-character young men with the talent to star in the SEC for years to come, starting with Andre Mills out of the Brimmer and May School in Chesnut (MA).

“Andre Mills is a home run addition to our roster. He’s a pass, dribble, and shoot SEC guard that brings a level of toughness that matches the personality of our program. Guided by his Brimmer and May School Coach, Tom Nelson, Andre knows the right way to play and competes at the highest level. From day one, Andre will add attributes to our organization that will keep Texas A&M at the top of the league. We are very thankful Andre will be joining us, and we’re excited to compete with him on our team.”

Turkson, hailing from the Bradford Christian Academy in Lowell (MA), committed the Aggies early last May. He has continued to ascend up the ranks due to his defensive prowess and dominance in rebounding.

“Our entire program is excited to add George Turkson to the family. Having learned the game under Coach Vin Pastore at Bradford Christian Academy, George knows how to impact winning on both sides of the basketball. Every single possession, George will bring an unmatched level of energy, toughness and physicality. In addition to his on-court contributions, George will be a great representation of the 12th Man. His high character and integrity, coupled with his competitive spirit, will bring a lot of success to College Station.”

Congratulations to both young men on taking steps towards their bright basketball future!

Texas A&M will take on Ohio State in Columbus (OH) on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on Peacock.

Texas A&M basketball boasts three top 150 commits in latest 247Sports rankings update

With 247Sports releasing a massive player rankings update, the Aggies boast three commits in the top 150 in Andre Mills, George Turkson, and Rob Dockery.

As the summer winds down and college basketball season draws near, it’s worth a pulse check on how Texas A&M basketball’s 2024 recruiting class is sizing up in the latest rankings.

On Wednesday morning, the 247Sports team released a significant update to their player rankings. Not only was the 2024 class given an update, but so were the 2025 and 2026 classes. Given that the Aggies currently do not have commits in the 2025 and 2026 cycles, this breakdown will focus solely on Texas A&M’s trio of commits in the 2024 class.

The great news is that all three A&M commitments in the 2024 class remain in the top 150 of the latest rankings update. As a refresher, guard Andre Mills, forward George Turkson, and forward Rob Dockery have all verbally committed to the Maroon and White.

Mills, who hails from Brimmer and May, holds the title of A&M’s highest-rated commit with a rating of 90, and he now sits as the No. 96 player nationally, according to 247Sports. Not far behind is his fellow AAU teammate in Turkson. The power forward out of Bradford Christian Academy has an 89 rating and is positioned as the No. 104 player nationally.

Dockery clocks in as the No. 110 prospect in the Top247 rankings. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward marks Texas A&M’s longest-tenured commit, having verbally committed to the Aggies since December 2022.

Head coach Buzz Williams and his staff are far from finished on the recruiting trail, but as always, it’s worth seeing how the Aggies fare against the competition. A&M currently boasts the No. 2 class in the SEC, trailing only Missouri.

Report: OKC Thunder scouts in attendance for several 2024/2025 high school recruits

The Thunder were in attendance for the Adidas All-American Camp, which featured several of the top 2024 and 2025 recruits.

While it’s the slowest month of the year in the NBA calendar, that hasn’t stopped teams from continuing to work — especially collecting data on potential draft prospects.

That was the case for the Oklahoma City Thunder and several other NBA teams who attended an Adidas All-American camp, per Yahoo Sports draft expert Krysteen Peek.

The Thunder were in attendance to watch a handful of high school juniors and seniors that will likely populate the 2026 and 2027 NBA draft classes. The list of participants included:

  • Five-star guard Ian Jackson, who is in the class of 2024 and committed to North Carolina
  • Four-star forward Khani Rooths, who is in the class of 2024
  • Four-star guard Kur Teng, who is in the class of 2024 and committed to Michigan State
  • Three-star forward George Turksan, who is in the class of 2024 and committed to Texas A&M
  • Four-star guard Mikel Brown Jr., who is the class of 2025
  • Four-star guard JJ Mandaquit, who is in the class of 2025

Here is a list of first-round picks the Thunder own during the 2026 and 2027 NBA drafts:

  • 2026 Thunder first-round pick
  • 2026 Clippers first-round pick
  • 2026 Rockets top-4 protected first-round pick
  • 2027 Thunder first-round pick
  • 2027 Nuggets top-5 protected first-round pick

It’s never too early to collect a profile for potential draft prospects — even if they’re three years out. The Thunder — along with most of the league — is using the summer camp to start building profiles of potential NBA players.

Texas A&M basketball’s 2024 commits take major leap in top-150 rankings

Texas A&M basketball’s 2024 recruiting class took a major leap in 247Sports’ latest rankings update, with two commits now within the top 100.

The future of Texas A&M basketball was already promising, and Buzz Williams’ program just received a jolt of promising news regarding their recruiting endeavors.

The 2024 class received its latest update on Thursday, with a trio of Aggies commits making moves in the 247Sports rankings. As it currently stands, Buzz Williams and Texas A&M hold three commitments in the 2024 class from Andre MillsGeorge Turkson, and Rob Dockery.

The Maroon and White can now claim two commits within 247Sports’ top 100 rankings, thanks to a significant rise from Andre Mills. The Brimmer and May guard jumped 30 spots from No. 125 up to No. 93, which shouldn’t be surprising given the noise he’s been making through the AAU circuit.

In late April, Mills shined at the Adidas 3SSB Circuit Invitational, pouring in 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor while going 4-5 from deep.

His current AAU teammate and fellow future Aggie George Turkson also rose 10 spots in the latest 247 rankings and now sits at No. 103 overall. At 6-7 with a 205-pound frame, Turkson represents the future of A&M in the frontcourt as he’ll learn under the wing of Julius Marble and Henry Coleman III, who will be rising seniors by the time Turkson arrives in College Station.

Dockery dropped four spots to No. 85 in 247Sports’ latest rankings; however, he remains the Aggies’ highest-rated commit for the 2024 cycle.

Although the Aggies continue to get much-deserved respect in college basketball’s early top 25 rankings for the 2023-24 season, it hasn’t diverted attention from Buzz Williams’ tenacity on the recruiting trail. The best programs in the country are built on long-term, sustainable success, which means keeping an eye on the future.

A pair of Texas A&M 2024 commits leaping the rankings illustrates that the future of Aggies hoops is as bright as ever.

2024 4-Star PF commit George Turkson can be the future of Texas A&M basketball’s frontcourt

With a track record of guarding multiple positions and a passion for attacking the glass, 2024 4-star commit George Turkson is the future of Texas A&M’s frontcourt.

Texas A&M basketball’s future continues to look bright after the Aggies landed a verbal commitment from 2024 four-star power forward George Turkson, whose skillset and relentless motor make him an ideal fit to thrive in Buzz Williams’ program.

At 6-7 with a 205-pound frame, Turkson’s addition fills a vital need in the frontcourt as the Aggies keep an eye toward the future. By the 2024 season, both Henry Coleman III and Julius Marble will be rising seniors, and adding Turkson gives both Coleman and Marble the opportunity to mentor him in year one.

While teams need to put the ball in the basket, the elite programs never overlook the impact on the defensive end, and that is where Turkson is primed to shine in the future.

The four-star forward’s size and length make him the ideal type to guard nearly all five positions on the floor, and that type of utility should garner impactful minutes from Buzz Williams. Speaking of the latter, everyone understands that playing with a relentless drive on both ends of the floor and on the glass is imperative when playing for the Aggies’ head coach.

Thankfully, Turkson has that experience in spades and has flashed that dedication in playing for Mass Rivals this spring. He’s logged performances of 12 and 14 rebounds already and has held his own against bigger matchups in his class, including five-star big man Flory Bidunga.

The Aggies ranked 17th in the country last season in offensive rebounds per game (10.9) and it was sparked by Coleman (2.3 per game) and Marble (1.5 per game) being tenacious for second chance opportunities. That’s an advantage the Maroon and White can’t afford to lose in the future, and Turkson’s presence will be critical in that area.

A&M basketball’s newest commit has an impact beyond the hardwood, as Turkson joins the likes of Rob Dockery and Andre Mills to form a strong foundation for the 2024 cycle. As of May 12, the Aggies Hoops’ 2024 recruiting class is ranked 11th in the country. Fans should be excited to see what’s shaping up to be the Maroon and White’s most talented class in recent memory.

Aggie Hoops’ 2024 recruiting class is now ranked 11th in the country

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class has risen to 11th in 247Sports Composite rankings after 4-star Forward George Turkson’s recent commitment

Ever since Texas A&M head basketball coach Buzz Williams returned to Aggieland for the first time in nearly a decade as a coach, his vision of turning around a program that had seen better days under every previous regime, but slowly dropped off the map in the final two seasons under previous head coach Billy Kennedy, would take some time, but get to its destination soon enough.

In four seasons with the program, Williams has accumulated a 76-47 record, and 36-28 in SEC play, while guiding the 2022-2023 squad to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2017-2018 season last. One area of weakness that has kept the Aggies from truly reaching their full potential under Williams’ tutelage is recruiting, as multiple players from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 cycles have transferred from the program, while only signing one five-star recruit in guard Manny Obaseki.

However, All-SEC point guard Wade Taylor IV from the 2021 recruiting class has already cemented himself as one of the program’s greatest players. His excellent play on the court has led to one of the Texas A&M and Buzz Williams’s best classes to date, as the 2024 class is currently ranked 11th in the country by 247Sports Composite rankings.

After four-star power forward George Turkson out of Lowell, Massachusetts announced his commitment on Wednesday, he quickly joined fellow four-star forward Rob Dockery, and high-three-star guard Andre Mills (also from Massachusetts), who will likely receive a four-star designation by this time next year. All in all, this is by far the most talented class since the 2021 cycle, as all three prospects will have a chance to contribute as soon as the 2024 season, all possessing the skill sets and mental fortitude needed to excel with the Maroon and White.

2024 4-Star Forward George Turkson commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M and head coach Buzz Williams have officially landed a verbal commitment from 2024 4-star forward George Turkson!

BOOM! Texas A&M has just received a verbal commitment from 2024 four-star forward, George Turkson out of Lowell, Massachusetts, who took a visit to College Station late last month due to a local AAU Tournament.

From a ranking standpoint, Turkson is currently positioned as the 87th-ranked player in the class and the 15th-ranked power forward in the cycle, according to 247Sports.

Announcing his decision during a 247Sports broadcast, Turkson’s relationship with Aggies’ head coach Buzz Williams loomed large on Wednesday evening, choosing the Maroon and White over his other two finalists, UMass and Northwestern.

Turkson is now the second Massachusetts-based prospect to join the Aggies’ 2024 recruiting cycle, as electric point guard Andre Mills announced his intentions on April 10, creating what should be a very exciting tandem for the future.

Turkson’s versatility as a defender in both the paint and the perimeter paired with his consistent rebounding ability makes him tailor-made to excel in William’s system. Why all the Massachusetts players you ask? A&M assistant coach Wabissa Bede, a native of Massachusetts, is a huge part of both Turkson and Mill’s commitments.

Congratulations, George! Gig ‘Em!
