Alabama lands commitment from former Big Ten offensive lineman in transfer portal

Former Michigan State offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark committed to Alabama via the transfer portal.

New coach Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are putting the finishing touches on their fall roster, hoping to stay in the hunt for a national championship in the post Nick Saban era.

The latest addition comes from the Big Ten, as former Michigan State guard Geno VandDeMark announced his intention to join the Crimson Tide on Saturday, a little over a week after he entered the transfer portal.

VanDeMark becomes Alabama’s second offensive line addition since the end of spring practices, joining Kadyn Proctor who returned to Tuscaloosa after a stint at Iowa.

The 6’5 New Jersey native has experience at guard and center, and had an offer from Oklahoma and interest from Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Ole Miss and South Carolina before choosing the Crimson Tide.

VanDeMark appeared in eight games for the Spartans last season, starting six, and was in line to start in East Lansing next season. Instead he’ll follow his former offensive line coach, Chris Kapilovic, who was at MSU during the Mel Tucker era and is familiar with VanDeMark’s game.

What adding Geno VanDeMark means to the Alabama offensive line

Alabama has solidified the interior of its offensive line with the addition of Geno VanDeMark

On Saturday afternoon, former Michigan State offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark announced his commitment to Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

With the addition of VanDeMark, Coach DeBoer and the Tide have made one of the more impressive overall hauls from this cycle of the transfer portal. VanDeMark is the second offensive lineman to join the Tide in the spring portal window alongside Kadyn Proctor who briefly spent time with the Iowa Hawkeyes before deciding to return to Alabama.

So where exactly does VanDeMark fit along the Crimson Tide offensive line? As an interior guy, I wouldn’t expect him to surpass what Alabama has returned there with [autotag]Tyler Booker[/autotag] and Jaeden Roberts holding down each guard spot and Washington transfer [autotag]Parker Brailsford[/autotag] anchoring the line at center. But he will provide some much-needed depth and experience, something the Crimson Tide is sorely lacking especially with the sudden departure of James Brockermeyer.

The most likely scenario is that VanDeMark will play the backup role for all three interior spots along the offensive line and serve as the Tide’s sixth man upfront.

With VanDeMark now in the mix, Alabama’s question marks along the offensive line are quickly disappearing.

Alabama lands Michigan State transfer OL Geno VanDeMark

The Alabama football team added some much-needed help along the offensive line as Michigan State transfer Geno VanDeMark announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

The Alabama Crimson Tide football program picked up a big-time commitment from Michigan State transfer offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark. VanDeMark became the second offensive lineman to transfer to the Crimson Tide during the spring. The first was former Iowa offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor.

VanDeMark chose to commit to Alabama over other programs like Arkansas, Duke, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss.

The New Jersey native spent three seasons in East Lansing. After redshirting his true freshman season, VanDeMark played in 10 games and made two starts as a redshirt-freshman. During his redshirt-sophomore season, VanDeMark played in eight games while making six starts at right guard.

VanDeMark would add depth and experience to Alabama’s offensive line room. In all likelihood, the Crimson Tide will start redshirt-junior Jaeden Roberts at right guard and junior Tyler Booker at left guard. The addition of VanDeMark will certainly boost the guard rotation heading into the 2024-2025 season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Michigan State football OL Geno VanDeMark enters NCAA transfer portal

As the spring transfer portal window closes, we were expecting to see some transfers come out of Michigan State football as Jonathan Smith and his staff evaluate the roster, what could be incoming with transfers and recruits, and what they want their team to look like. With that being said, a second MSU offensive lineman entered the portal on Tuesday, when Geno VanDeMark entered the portal, officially.

VanDeMark joins tackle Ethan Boyd in the portal.

Michigan State offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark withdraws from transfer portal

In some great news for Michigan State football fans, MSU offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark withdrew from the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, bringing back a starter who will be a redshirt junior next season.

This was a little unexpected, as I had heard a specific destination VanDeMark was eyeing through the portal, so Jonathan Smith and his staff must have done great work to bring the talented guard back to East Lansing.

Oklahoma Sooners receive three predictions for transfer offensive lineman

Oklahoma Sooners could be getting some more good news, this time in the transfer portal.

It’s no secret, the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of work to do along the offensive line before next season. The Sooners must replace all five starters from this season, although [autotag]Jacob Sexton[/autotag] and [autotag]Troy Everett[/autotag] started a few games in 2023.

[autotag]Walter Rouse[/autotag], [autotag]McKade Mettauer[/autotag], [autotag]Andrew Raym[/autotag], [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag] are gone. Sexton replaced Guyton at the end of the season due to an injury. Everett played some guard earlier in the year when they were trying to solidify that position before Green took over.

The Sooners brought in [autotag]Eddy Pierre-Louis[/autotag], who is the top interior offensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class, according to Rivals. While [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] showed he will play freshmen, we know that’s not what he wants to do.

So, the Sooners have hit the portal hard. They’ve received one commitment, former Michigan State Spartans offensive tackle [autotag]Spencer Brown[/autotag]. Now, they’ve received three predictions from SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuiston, Michigan State insider Justin Thind and national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn for his running mate at guard, [autotag]Geno VanDeMark[/autotag].

VanDeMark and Brown started on the right side of the line, so they have chemistry playing together. Given Sexton played right tackle, those two could be moved to the left side or they could move Sexton to the left side if VanDeMark were to sign.

Michigan State had an up-and-down season, and so did VanDeMark, although his best games came against his best competition. According to Pro Football Focus, he had pass-blocking grades of 71.7, 76.6, and 86.4 against the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

He definitely is better at pass blocking than run blocking, although he’s solid at that as well. Ultimately, he would bring experience and depth to a depleted offensive line.

MSU Football offers 2021 top 5 punter Sebastien Tasko, teammate of two Spartan commits

Michigan State has offered a top 5 punter in Sebastien Tasko. Tasko currently plays with two other MSU commits at St. Joseph Regional.

Mel Tucker and his staff don’t take days off for the holidays apparently. On a Thanksgiving morning, 5-star punter Sebastien Tasko announced that he has received an offer from Michigan State Football.

Tasko, who would be in the 2021 recruiting class, is the No. 4 ranked punter in the country. He’s also currently committed to Harvard. However, Tasko is the teammate of two commits in Michigan State Football’s 2021 recruiting class, Geno VanDeMark and Audric Estime. Estime and VanDeMark, who are the No. 2 and 3 highest ranked players in MSU’s 2021 class, both play with Tasko at St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey.
