Huskers miss out on wide receiver prospect

One of Nebraska’s top remaining targets in the class of 2024 has finally announced his commitment.

One of Nebraska’s top remaining targets in the class of 2024 has finally announced his commitment. Wide receiver Gatlin Bair has committed to the Boise State Broncos on Saturday evening.

Bair is the No. 1 recruit in the state of Idaho and the highest-ranked recruit in that state’s history. Last season as a Junior, Bair caught 73 passes for 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns for Burley High School.

He has been clocked at 10.15 in the 100-meter dash, good for the second-fastest high school time in the country. It’ll be a couple of years before he takes the field.

Instead, he will take a two-year mission trip following his high school graduation. Bair chose Boise State over Nebraska, Michigan, TCU and Oregon.

Michigan football loses out on top WR target

Not ideal.

Michigan football was on a torrid pace in 2024 recruiting until it wasn’t.

The months of June and July saw many Wolverine leans choose to go elsewhere, and now the month of August isn’t treating the maize and blue any better.

The top target for the brass in Ann Arbor at the wide receiver position, aside from five-star Ryan Wingo who is still on the board, has been 2024 Burley (Idaho) Senior four-star Gatlin Bair. Billed as the fastest man in the 2024 class, Bair was also a considered a Michigan lean after his official visit in late June. However, in the days leading up to his Aug. 5 commitment, the buzz surrounding Bair and Michigan started cooling.

The maize and blue’s worst fears were realized on Saturday when Bair decided to stay home and play for local Boise State.

The good news for Michigan football is if it does intend to continue recruiting Bair, he won’t be reporting to campus until 2026, as he’ll be going on a two-year mission trip with the LDS church before arriving at his next school.

4-star WR Gatlin Bair sets commitment date; Oregon Ducks among finalists

4-star WR Gatlin Bair sets commitment date; Oregon Ducks among finalists

The Oregon Ducks wide receiver room in the 2024 class is already looking pretty solid with a trio of commitments, but there is a chance that it could get a lot better going forward.

4-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair announced on Thursday that he has set his commitment date, which will come on August 5. Bair, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 9 WR and No. 35 overall player in the 2024 class, is down to a final group of schools that includes the Ducks, Michigan, Nebraska, Boise State, and TCU.

Bair is also rated as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Idaho.

While there are currently no Crystal Ball Predictions on 247Sports, it is the Wolverines who hold a significant lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Michigan currently has a 71.9% chance to land Bair, according to On3, while the Ducks are in second place at 9.2%.

Bair took an official visit to Oregon earlier in the year, and he has been to Eugene a number of times to run track at Hayward Field, where he has had a standout career as a sprinter.

We will see on August 5 if the Ducks can add the 4-star recruit or not. Once Bair commits to whichever school he chooses, there is an expectation that he goes on his mission, so it is unlikely that he will return to play football in 2024.

Could Michigan football be getting good news in a few weeks?

Fingers crossed! #GoBlue

Michigan football has lost out on some of its top targets in recruiting over the course of the past month or so, after getting off to a torrid start on the trail. But good news may be coming in the near future if everything holds.

The maize and blue are in good position for 2024 Burley (Idaho) Senior four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair, the No. 35 player in the country according to 247Sports. The Wolverines appear to be the leader for Bair, who is deemed the fastest player in the country in 2024. While he doesn’t have any 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, there are predictions elsewhere on other sites for Michigan.

Bair announced on Thursday that he’ll be making his college choice on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. EDT. He is presumed to be between Michigan, Oregon, Boise State, TCU, and Nebraska.

The winner for Bair’s services will have to wait two years, however, as the member of the Latter Day Saints church will be going on a two-year mission before arriving at his school of choice in 2026. Michigan currently has two wide receivers committed in 2024 in Channing Goodwin and I’Marion Stewart, but missed out on Goodwin’s high school classmate, Jordan Shipp, who committed to North Carolina.

Michigan trending for top WR target after official visit

Got to love seeing this! #GoBlue

Michigan wrapped up its big June official visit month. The Wolverines had plenty of big names and top targets in Ann Arbor this past month and Michigan landed several commitments from those visits.

One big name the Wolverines, and several other schools, have been recruiting is Burley (Idaho) Burley Senior wide receiver, Gatlin Bair.

Bair was in Ann Arbor this past weekend for an official visit. The four-star receiver had a top five of Michigan, Oregon, TCU, Nebraska, and Boise State. But it now appears the maize and blue have made a big impact on his recruitment and the Wolverines now lead for him entering the dead period of recruiting.

Josh Henschke with The Mazie & Blue Review, put in a Future Cast for Bair to head to Michigan. And when you look at the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wolverines now have a 71.9% chance to land the speedy wide receiver. Oregon is in second with a 9.2% chance.

Here is On3’s scouting report on the 6-foot-2, 40th-ranked recruit in the 2024 class:

One of the top overall athletes in the 2024 cycle who is the nation’s fastest football prospect on the track. Has unverified size, listed at around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Looks like the nation’s fastest football prospect during his junior track season. Consistently ran scintillating times. Won the state title in the 100 and 200 meters with remarkable 10.15 second and 20.56 second marks. Transfers that top end speed to the grid iron. Shows the ability to blow by corners as a deep threat on vertical routes. Also flashes speed after the catch with the ball in his hands. Eliminates angles and beats defenders to the edge. Also a dangerous return man. Works on the outside and over the middle of the field. Can track the ball over his shoulder. Finished his junior season with 73 catches for 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns. Shows the considerable twitch and bounce on the basketball court where his above-the-rim athleticism shows on alley oops and dunks in transition. Can improve his fluidity and polish as a route-runner as well as his comfort as a pass catcher. Averaged 14.7 yards per catch, which is on the low end among blue-chip receivers and top draft picks, especially considering his weaker than average competition. Reportedly plans to take an LDS mission following high school, postponing his college enrollment for two years.

Bair also holds offers from teams like Georgia, Florida, UCLA, Texas, Miami, and plenty of others.

Elite receiver gets pair of predictions he’ll play for Michigan football

Looking like his official visit was a success! #GoBlue

Michigan football is wrapping up its final big recruiting weekend of the spring and early summer: Another dead period begins this week. Of the prospects that made it to campus, one stands above the rest as a priority target.

Though many are watching Florida four-star safety Zaquan Patterson, all eyes are on Idaho-based wide receiver Gatlin Bair. Bair is technically in the 2024 class, though he will not arrive on his campus of choice for a few years. First, he plans to go on a mission trip. Noted as the fastest man in the class after running a reported 10.18 100-meter dash, the Burley (Idaho) Senior High School prospect is a high four-star who is rated No. 36 overall according to 247Sports.

On the heels of his visit to Ann Arbor, he received two predictions from different sites indicating he’ll eventually choose the Wolverines On3’s Sean Callahan and Maize and Blue Review (Rivals) publisher Josh Henschke.

In April, Bair named a top five of Michigan, Oregon, Boise State, Nebraska and TCU. He has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas and many other top schools.

Michigan has another Idahoan on campus. Standout sophomore tight end Colston Loveland hails from Gooding (Idaho). Reportedly, Loveland pitched Bair on the benefits of heading to Ann Arbor after cutting his teeth in Idaho.

Speed has become a priority for Oregon, displayed in recent recruiting signees and targets

Bringing track speed to the gridiron is something that Dan Lanning is aiming to do in excess, highlighted by recent recruiting success.

It was the Oregon Ducks that brought the speed game to mainstream college football over a decade ago, so it’s a bit strange to see them having to refocus their efforts on that facet.

With the hiring of Dan Lanning, the Ducks have obviously focused on defense and defensive recruiting, bringing more of an SEC mentality to the pacific northwest. That means big lines on both sides of the ball and very skilled players on the outside.

What might be a bit underrated in the SEC brand of play is the speed factor. Those in the skilled positions are not only big, but they have world-class speed, something the Ducks are looking to add as much as possible.

Having a world-class track facility such as the new Hayward Field has to help also. If nothing else, it’s helped in securing two commitments and another recruiting target for the Ducks.

First is cornerback Rodrick Pleasant out of Gardena, Calif. At 5-11 and 180 pounds, Pleasant was ranked as a Top 10 corner from California and a Top 10 player overall from that state. Also a renowned sprinter, Pleasant just broke the state’s high school mark for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.14 seconds.

Check out Pleasant practically running away from the competition.

For reference, that time would have landed Pleasant in 5th place at the 2022 NCAA Track and Field Championships.

One thing that was noticeable in the spring game is that Oregon’s new offensive coordinator Will Stein likes to roll out the quarterback. A speedy quarterback that rolls out and possibly gives himself time to either throw or tuck and run can be a huge benefit. Recruiting and getting a commitment from a single caller such as Luke Moga fits into those plans perfectly.

The Phoenix, Ariz. native just broke that state’s prep record in the 100-meter dash. Duck track coach Jerry Schumacher has to be jumping up and down with these two.

The final speed demon that Oregon is targeting is 4-star WR Gatlin Bair out of Burley, Idaho. Bair is a 6-foot-2, 180-pounder who is being recruited by Boise State, Michigan, TCU and Nebraska as well as the Ducks.

Bair just had a good showing at the Texas Relays. In a preliminary race, Bair had a 100m time of 10.13 seconds, the second-best time ever in the state. He’s the type of receiver that will be fun to watch in the open field once Bair plays on the college level. Oregon hopes it will be at Autzen Stadium.

Under Chip Kelly, the Ducks became known for speed, with guys like LaMichael James and DeAnthony Thomas bringing the lightning to Oregon’s thunder.

It appears that Dan Lanning is looking to do the same.

Alabama offers Idaho’s top recruiting prospect, 2024 WR Gatlin Bair

It is not every day that you see the Alabama coaching staff offering high school recruits from Idaho. However, the Tide recently did just that after extending an official offer to 2024 wide receiver Gatlin Bair.

It’s not out of the ordinary for the Alabama coaching staff to recruit high school prospects from west coast states such as California, Washington, and Arizona. One state that the Tide do not often recruit is Idaho. However, it was too much for the Tide to pass up on an opportunity to offer the state’s top prospect in 2024 wide receiver Gatlin Bair.

Bair plays for Burley Senior High School in Burley, Idaho. As a junior, Bair hauled in 73 receptions for 1,073 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. Almost 25% of Bair’s receptions went for touchdowns last season.

Recently, Bair released his top-five schools which were Oregon, Michigan, Boise State, TCU, and Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are currently the favorite to land Bair at 90.9% likelihood, according to On3’s RPM.

Alabama had had plenty of success at the wide receiver position in the past. Wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins lands elite receiving options in every recruiting cycle. Bair fits the profile, so I would not be surprised to see the Tide put a full-court press on the Idaho native.
