Garrison Brooks signs deal overseas

Former UNC basketball standout Garrison Brooks is signing a new deal to continue his professional carer.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels forward, Garrison Brooks, has inked another professional contract in the basketball world.

Brooks spent four years with the Tar Heels before transferring to Mississippi State for the final year of his collegiate career. While at North Carolina, Brooks saw the 2019-2020 season as his best performance averaging 16.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

After college, Brooks made his way to the NBA G-League roster with the Westchester Knicks during the 2022-2023 season. During that season, he was averaging double-digit points and rebounds in 37 total games. After that stint in New York, he made his way to Korea signing a deal with the Wonju DB Promy of the Korean Basketball League.

He was there for just one appearance before making his way to his current home in Lithuania signing a deal in 2023 with the Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius.

In the 2023-24 EuroCup season with the Wolves, Brooks averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 70.7% from the field. Earlier this year, Brooks’ G-League rights were transferred from the Knicks to the Suns organization after the Valley Suns drafted him in their expansion draft if he were to decide to return to the NBA G-League. Brooks was also able to spend the 2024 NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls.

However, Brooks has doubled down and despite that news, he has re-signed with the Wolves for the 2024-2025 season upcoming. Hopefully, for the Lithuanian organization, he can get back to the player he was with Westchester averaging 13.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game.

Will Summer League be a path back into the NBA for this former UNC basketball standout?

A former UNC basketball player is getting a chance to make an NBA roster with the Summer League.

Plenty of former North Carolina Tar Heel basketball stars haven’t enjoyed that same success in the professional ranks, particularly when trying to join an NBA roster.

Garrison Brooks is the perfect example of this. Despite improving his game each succeeding year at UNC (2017-2021), highlighted by a career-best 16.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game during the COVID-shortend 2019-2020 season, he has yet to make an NBA roster.

Brooks went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, later joining the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks’ G-League Affiliate) for the season. Despite averaging 13.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game during the 2022-2023 campaign, he was never called up to the Big Apple.

Brooks attempted to break into the NBA last summer, playing Summer League ball for the New Orleans Pelicans, but ended up signing with the BC Wolves in Lithuania instead.

This summer could present Brooks his best opportunity to make an NBA roster, though, as he was named to the Chicago Bulls’ Summer League team.

If Brooks ended up making Chicago’s regular-season roster, he’d team up with former North Carolina and currently-budding NBA star Coby White.

Brooks made a name for himself in college, mainly due to his thunderous dunks and solid rebounding ability. He helped UNC to three NCAA Tournaments appearances, with UNC’s deepest during Brooks’ time in Chapel Hill (2018) a date in the Sweet 16.

When the NBA season kicks off in October, will Brooks find himself on a final roster?

Wonju DB Promy announced on Wednesday night that they have agreed to a deal with Brooks. The forward is set to play for his new team in the Korean Basketball League starting this year.

After four seasons at North Carolina, Brooks transferred to Mississippi State for his final year. He then spent a year with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA’s G-League, playing 22 games.

Brooks will look to help get DB Promy back to the playoffs after they missed out last season.

Despite not getting his chance in the NBA, Brooks is now looking to find his way overseas. The hope is that he can find success there and continue to get better.
