Gimme Him: Garrett Wilson would be playmaking target for Patriots

This would be a dream signing for Patriots fans

The New England Patriots are set to take on the New York Jets in a Thursday night matchup.

The Jets have an explosive offense, which is something the Patriots have been missing. In particular, they need production at the wide receiver position, and Jets star receiver Garrett Wilson makes the most sense for this week’s “Gimme Him” player.

Wilson burst onto the scene as a top-tier wideout after being drafted out of Ohio State in 2022. He has 188 career receptions for 2,262 yards and seven touchdowns. He is having a productive 2024 season so far, as he has recorded 10 catches for 117 yards.

The 24-year-old receiver would give the Patriots offense the ability to stretch the field and a dynamic playmaker who can make things happen after the catch. That dynamic playmaking ability, particularly on the outside, isn’t something the Patriots currently have on their roster.

Take last year for example, when Wilson averaged 10.97 yards per reception. That elite level of production came when the Jets were trying to find stability at the quarterback position, due to the injury of Aaron Rodgers. Wilson also averaged 6.20 yards per target, per statistics from Pro Football Reference.

New England is still struggling to get production from the wide receiver position, as the organization continues to rebuild the offense. The offense has proven successful as more of a run-first unit, but they are missing the balance and big-play ability a player like Wilson would give them. He’d be a true No. 1 target and a receiving weapon the quarterback room could rely on.

Wilson hasn’t even reached his prime, and he’s already teasing the potential to be one of the best receivers in the league. That mix of youth and high-end talent would be a key ingredient to help get the Patriots back on the right track.

Titans vs. Jets: 3 best player prop bets for Week 2

The Tennessee Titans take on the New York Jets in Week 2 and here’s a look at three of the best player prop bets.

The Tennessee Titans are looking to bounce back in Week 2 after losing a heartbreaker to the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Even with this game being the home opener, the Titans are 3.5-point underdogs against the New York Jets, per BetMGM. The Jets also lost in Week 1, so it may officially be panic time for the loser of this one.

Let’s look at the three best player prop bets you should consider if you plan on betting on this game.

Tyjae Spears OVER 23.5 rushing yards

After Week 1, head coach Brian Callahan expressed disappointment that Tyjae Spears wasn’t more involved.

“Tony [Pollard] ran the ball, and he was doing a nice job,” Callahan said, via team reporter Jim Wyatt. “But I’d like to get more for Tyjae [Spears]. I’d like him to get rolling a little bit more. We can make that division of labor probably a little closer to equal. … I regret that part of it.”

Well, expect Spears to be involved in Week 2. The Jets allowed 49ers backup running back Jordan Mason to gain 147 yards on the ground in Week 1, so there should be plenty of opportunities for Spears and Pollard. Spears easily surpasses this total.

Garrett Wilson UNDER 5.5 receptions

In Week 1, Garrett Wilson caught six passes for 60 yards. In Week 2, don’t expect the young star to reach the same total.

Wilson will likely be matched up against L’Jarius Sneed, who feels like he has something to prove after Week 1, even as the secondary played well.

In the past, the Titans have primarily been hurt by secondary receivers. Expect Wilson to get locked down on Sunday with Aaron Rodgers forced to distribute the ball elsewhere.

Will Levis OVER 195.5 passing yards

Will Levis had an awful Week 1 performance. However, the quarterback has expressed confidence that he can bounce back in Week 2, and I expect him to.

Levis’ passing yards total is under 200, which immediately makes me want to hammer the over. Brock Purdy threw for 231 yards last week, but his team was in control for much of the game.

This one could become a shootout where Levis has to stretch the ball down the field. I would not be surprised to see Levis bounce back with something like 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Jets’ Garrett Wilson on 49ers loss: ‘They whooped our [expletive]’

#Jets’ Garrett Wilson on #49ers loss: ‘They whooped our [expletive]’

There was no mincing of words from the New York Jets offense following their season-opening loss.

The San Francisco 49ers took a 32-19 win in a game that wasn’t even that close. Aside from the Jets’ first drive on offense, there was little to be found.

The locker room was direct after the game.

“They whooped our a– today,” receiver Garrett Wilson said.

Despite getting in the end zone, running back Breece Hall felt similar.

“They just played harder than us,” Hall said per SNY.

On top of that, New York head coach Robert Saleh decided to yank quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the fourth quarter. A clear waving of the white flag which hurt.

The Jets (0-1) will need to use that as motivation heading into their Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans (0-1).

Jets’ Aaron Rodgers discusses relationship with Garrett Wilson

#Jets’ Aaron Rodgers discusses relationship with Garrett Wilson:

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is looking for a much better second year with his team.

After such a sudden conclusion to his first, the bar isn’t high… but he’s setting it high for himself and he knows his relationship with Garrett Wilson is important to achieving those goals.

“He can make all the moves. What I’ve seen from him this camp is a greater attention to detail,” Rodgers said.

Both players have recently noted how the communication the two have with each other, which was put on display early on in training camp, is key.

“You’ve definitely got to talk about it and be able to have some harder conversations where he’s telling me what he wants and I’ve got to listen to that, and I weigh in on how I feel. And then we come to a decision together,” Wilson said to the team’s website.

Three former Ohio State football receivers poised for breakout NFL year

Could all three of these former Buckeye receivers improve their stats this season in the NFL? #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has become the place to be if you are an elite receiver, and the Buckeyes have been able to have some of the best in the world come through Columbus.

Players like Marvin Harrison Jr., who was named the 24 most-intriguing NFL players, and Michael Thomas are either set to explode or have exploded in the past, showcasing the type of talent that the Buckeyes have had on their roster.

With Week 1 of the new NFL season having commenced Thursday, let’s dive into a few former Buckeyes set for breakout years.

Garrett Wilson – New York Jets

Andy Behrens gives outlandishly positive take on Garrett Wilson
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Wilson has been in the NFL for two seasons after being the 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has eclipsed 1,000 yards in both seasons with substandard quarterback play.

This season, he’s going to have a healthy Aaron Rodgers, who is a future Hall of Fame quarterback, throwing the ball his way. The 24-year-old is set for go for 1,400 yards, 100 receptions, and 10 touchdowns, none of which he’s done before in his career.

Chris Olave – New Orleans Saints

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Olave has a similar story but to a lesser extent and with the Saints. Olave, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has gone north of 1,000 yards in both of his seasons.

Last season, he had a career-best 1,123 passing yards, and Alvin Kamara, the team’s lethal dual-threat back, was hurt for a chunk of that. The Saints are going to be healthy, and Olave should get plenty of targets.

He should see 140-plus passes thrown his way and could eclipse 1,200 yards with ease. A full offseason with Derek Carr in the organization will help too.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba – Seattle Seahawks

Tyler Lockett has been a force in Seattle for years, and he’s starting to get older. Couple that with Smith-Njigba expecting to see an expanded role in the offense, and the second-year receiver could be in for a breakout season.

He went for 63 receptions and 628 yards last season, so even topping 1,000 would be a significant jump in production. The Seahawks took him 20th overall in the 2023 NFL draft for a reason, and the 22-year-old has all the tools in his arsenal to shine.

Expect significantly more opportunity in the Seattle offense and an improvement on those rookie numbers.

Yahoo! Sports analyst thinks Garrett Wilson could be in for historic season

Do you think Wilson is due for a breakout year? #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has developed some of the NFL’s best receivers, including New York Jets star Garrett Wilson.

Wilson is primed for a breakout season with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers healthy. The 24-year-old Wilson, who was born in Chicago and lived in Dublin, Ohio, until moving to Texas and starring for Lake Travis High School in Austin, was taken with the 10th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Since then, he has had mediocre quarterback play, and Rodgers may unlock the potential of Wilson, who has gone north of 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons.

Yahoo! Sports analyst Andy Behrens expects a historic season from Wilson.

“Garrett Wilson wins the receiving triple crown,” Behrens said when discussing some bold predictions for this upcoming season.

The triple crown is described as the most receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in an NFL season. It is rare with just four players having accomplished it since 1966.

“Maybe I’m a little bit too enthusiastic right now because I’ve become a victim of all those clips of Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers in the joint practice against the Giants where they absolutely ended that franchise,” Behrens said. “That was super impressive.”

That said, Cooper Kupp for the Los Angeles Rams was the last player to accomplish the feat, which took place in 2021. Kupp ended with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. Each of those was the most among any triple crown winner since 1966.

Wilson is young, and with a star quarterback who should put the ball on his number, has the dynamic foot speed and route-running ability to make the triple crown a reality.

It’s certainly a bold take, but there have been far crazier.

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has quick hands & feet

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has the quick hands and & needed to maneuver pass NFL DB’s trying to jam him at the line of scrimmage

Within Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s offensive attack, New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson may have a huge season in 2024.

Hackett’s offense has the potential to be very possessive in 2024. With running back Braelon Allen, Breece Hall, and Isaiah Davis toting the ball on the ground, Wilson may be a recipient of many play action passes.

Quick slants, drags, out-routes, and fades may be routes that Wilson excels with in 2024. Especially with Aaron Rodgers playing quarterback for him.

Fantasy football: Where to draft New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson

Analyzing New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson’s 2024 fantasy football ADP and where to target him in fantasy drafts.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson’s first 2 NFL campaigns resulted in 1,000-yard seasons. That’s with subpar quarterback play in both seasons. Imagine what he can do with an NFL-caliber signal caller. Below, we look at Garrett Wilson’s 2024 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

As we head into the 2024 season, Wilson is easily considered a WR1 in most fantasy formats, and it’s possible he takes another step forward in his development as a pro.

Garrett Wilson’s ADP: 15.13

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Wilson’s 15.13 ADP in redraft formats makes him a top-notch WR1 for fantasy managers who might miss out on the top-tier targets in the 1st round. Wilson’s ADP ranks him 8th among wideouts, just behind Arizona rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. (15.12). Call me crazy, but between those 2 Ohio State products, I’d rather take the guy with a more proven track record in the NFL.

The top 10 wide receivers by ADP are Miami’s Tyreek Hill (4.06), Dallas’ CeeDee Lamb (4.74), Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown (7.20), Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase (7.75), Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson (7.79), Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown (11.90), Harrison Jr., Wilson, the Ram’s Puka Nacua (18.09) and Las Vegas’ Davante Adams (22.94).

Where should you draft Wilson?

Heading into the 2023 season, there was tremendous optimism surrounding the Jets. They had legitimate championship aspirations after landing likely Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers. That hope last a few snaps into the season before Rodgers ruptured an Achilles’ tendon in a season-ending injury.

Despite the fact Wilson was forced to work with past QBs Tim Boyle, Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson, none of which are on the Jets’ 2024 roster, the young wide receiver. He had a 2nd 1,000-yard campaign in as many NFL seasons, and fantasy managers are looking for a giant step forward in Year 3, as long as Rodgers, and Wilson, can stay healthy.

If you end up with Wilson as a WR1, you’re likely drafting late in the 1st round or in the middle of the 2nd round. Some fantasy managers in PPR leagues could, potentially, land Wilson as a WR2 in snake drafts after taking another top-tier option with their 1st pick.

Either way, with Wilson, you’re going to get a player with plenty of upside, and tremendous consistency.

Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson has taken things up a notch this offseason

Garrett Wilson continues to impress the New York Jets with his development.

Garrett Wilson continues to find another level, the New York Jets wide receiver looking to build on what has been an impressive first two seasons in the NFL.

In 2022, Wilson was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year. Last year, he had 95 catches for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns. He was a first round pick of the Jets in the 2022 NFL draft out of Ohio State, taken No. 10 overall.

It was a very strong output from Wilson, especially considering the dire state of the Jets quarterback situation last year.

Truth be told, Wilson should have been named to the Pro Bowl all things considered. The Jets had the third-worst passing offense in the NFL a season ago.

“He’s always been an ultimate competitor, but he’s really been working on the fine details of his route running, getting to where the quarterback needs him to be and understanding that sometimes you don’t always have to absolutely destroy your guy at the line of scrimmage,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Thursday.

“Sometimes it’s just running a route as fast as you can to get into a spot as quickly as you can so the quarterback can deliver a ball. He’s starting to understand all of that. Because of it, I think he’s realizing his game. He’s so darn good and so twitchy and so fast that he doesn’t have to do a lot, to gain the separation that he needs to get open.”

The Jets threw for just 171.7 yards per game last season. They were the second-worst total offense in the league.

Which Commanders player needs a strong preseason the most?

What Washington player needs a strong preseason the most?

The Washington Commanders kick off the 2024 preseason on Saturday against the New York Jets. On Thursday, the Commanders and Jets held a joint practice in Florham Park, New Jersey, which gave us a preview of Saturday’s game.

By all accounts, the Jets outperformed Washington in the joint practice. The Commanders were sloppy in all three phases, although rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had some good moments. Washington struggled the most in defending New York star receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson was phenomenal on Thursday. Defending Wilson throughout most of Thursday’s practice was second-year cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. This X post from SNY’s Connor Hughes sums up things perfectly.

To put it mildly, Forbes had a tough day. We’ve written multiple times about how important this preseason was for Forbes, not because he was on the roster bubble but to prove himself to the new coaching staff.

Pro Football Focus agrees that this preseason is massive for Forbes. PFF named 10 NFL players who need a strong preseason, and here’s what they said about Forbes:

Another 2023 first-round pick whose starting spot seems could be in grave danger, Forbes will be under the microscope on every snap in 2024. After the Commanders signed Michael Davis and drafted Mike Sainristil, Forbes is on the outside looking in, sitting as a backup outside cornerback on the team’s initial depth chart.

In his debut year, Forbes struggled mightily, posting a 50.9 PFF overall grade and a dismal 28.4 run-defense grade. That final number certainly won’t fly for new defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., whose Dallas cornerbacks flourished against the run.

Considering his CB3 status and early woes against Garrett Wilson in a joint practice, Forbes may have little leeway to play poorly, even in August. A bad preseason could mean an ominous career spell for the former 16th overall pick.

Forbes being No. 3 on the depth chart shouldn’t mean too much. At least that’s what head coach Dan Quinn said. Throughout training camp, the Commanders have rotated Forbes, Michael Davis, and Benjamin St-Juste at the two outside cornerback positions. Sainristil is Washington’s slot cornerback.

Regardless of his status on the depth chart, Forbes needs to have a strong preseason, and that begins against the Jets.
