Report: Davante Adams’ top trade target has emerged

The New Orleans Saints remain in the mix for Davante Adams, but the New York Jets have emerged as his top trade target:

When it was originally reported Davante Adams requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, it was said  he had two preferred destination — the New Orleans Saints or New York Jets. He would accept a trade to other destinations, but he would land on one of those two teams if he was given his pick.

The appeal for both destinations are similar, but per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets are at the top of Adams’ wish list. This doesn’t remove the Saints from the mix, but it does drop them down a level in the pecking order.

The Jets have Aaron Rodgers, his quarterback with the Green Bay Packers. The Saints have Derek Carr, Adams’ collegiate quarterback and the reason he went to Vegas. Both teams have young Ohio State wide receivers in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, as well, who Adams could mentor.

While the Saints may still be high on Adams’ list, there appears to be a separation from the Jets at the top and the rest of the pack. Originally, it seemed the Saints and Jets were evenly matched, and then this separation emerged.

On the bright side, teams tend to trade talented players like Adams out of the conference. And ultimately Adams won’t choose where he goes since he doesn’t have a no-trade clause or other leverage. The Raiders will take the best offer. That could give New Orleans an edge if they have to spend more to get some help maneuvering around the salary cap.

Broncos CB Pat Surtain continues to shut down top WRs

Going up against DK Metcalf, George Pickens, Mike Evans and Garrett Wilson, Pat Surtain has allowed 8 receptions for 88 yards and 0 TDs.

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain is off to a great start in 2024.

Surtain held Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf to three catches for 29 yards in Week 1. After that, PS2 limited Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens to a pair of catches for 29 yards in Week 2 (although it should be mentioned that Surtain was also penalized twice).

Last week, PS2 held Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans to one catch for eight yards. The trend continued in Week 4 as Surtain limited New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson to two receptions for 22 yards.

Through four games this fall, Surtain has allowed eight receptions for 88 yards with no touchdowns and two pass breakups. After a 10-9 win over the Jets on Sunday, Surtain was asked about the limited targets he has received this season.

“It means I’m doing my job at the end of the day,” Surtain said. “I’m just trusting my technique, honing in on it. I can’t control the amount of targets I have, but if you sum it up like that, I’m doing my job for sure.”

Surtain is well on his way to his third Pro Bowl nod and second All-Pro selection.

Jets’ Garrett Wilson defends Giants’ Malik Nabers against critical fans

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has come to the defense of New York Giants WR Malik Nabers against critical fans.

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has been as advertised since being selected sixth overall back in April. Through just four weeks, he is well on his way to becoming a star in the league.

Star receivers from LSU may sound familiar to Giants fans given the prime years of Odell Beckham Jr. about a decade ago.

Nabers, whom the offense has been running through, is breaking records left and right as defenses are having trouble keeping the ball out of his hands.

Whether fair or unfair, Nabers has also had a few drops in big moments that could have helped the Giants, most notably on a fourth-day play in a Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Some fans have not been able to let that go. And following another perceived drop in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys, there have been calls for Nabers to get it together, so to speak.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson doesn’t want to hear it.

Wilson is one of the league’s best young receivers and it’s nice to see him sticking up for Nabers, who has been nothing short of spectacular for Big Blue.

Although the Giants may have a better record if Nabers converts that fourth down in Week 2 or manages to somehow hang onto the ball in Week 4, the reality is they never would have been in a position to win without him.

Rookies make rookie mistakes and given the number of times Nabers has been targeted, a drop or two is expected.

Jets’ Garrett Wilson ‘loves’ facing another top CB in Broncos’ Pat Surtain II

Jets’ Garrett Wilson ‘loves’ facing another top CB in Broncos’ Pat Surtain II

It’s been a slow start to the 2024 season for New York Jets (3-0) wide receiver Garrett Wilson but he’s up for the challenge.

To start the year, Wilson has had some tough opposition lining up across from him. That’s set to continue against the Jets’ upcoming opponent in the Denver Broncos (1-2).

Wilson will likely see plenty of Pat Surtain II across from him.

Surtain, 24, signed a massive contract extension this offseason: A four-year, $96 million deal. That made him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

Wilson is going to have to face that obstacle, but he’s ready to.

“I love it,” Wilson sad.

And that confidence is found in New York’s quarterback, too.

“He’s got to be patient, we’ve got to be patient, we can’t force it. Pat [Surtain II]’s a phenomenal player, but you know, Garrett is too, so it’s going to be a good matchup with those two guys,” Aaron Rodgers said this week. “A lot of respect for Pat.”

So far on the year, Wilson has 15 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. According to Pro Football Focus, Surtain has allowed six catches and 63 yards.

Jets vs. Broncos: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 4

Jets vs. Broncos: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 4

The New York Jets will host the Denver Broncos in their upcoming Week 4 matchup.

Even with it being a big, early season AFC clash, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Sunday’s Jets (2-1) against the Broncos  (1-2) matchup:

OL Olu Fashanu vs. ED Jonathon Cooper

Pretty simple one here: How does Fashanu look in his first-career start? Cooper will be lining up on the edge on the right side of the Jets’ offensive line. Cooper has three sacks so far this season and Pro Football Focus grades him positively in the run game, too. He is PFF’s 10th best edge defender against the run this season (73.3).

DL Quinnen Williams vs. OL Luke Wattenberg

(USAT)

Coming into Sunday’s matchup, PFF has ranked Wattenberg as the 31st best center in the NFL with an overall grade of 51.5. That’s No. 31 out of 32 qualifying centers. That is bad.

Williams looked elite against the New England Patriots in Week 3. And as we saw, if he has a big game, that ripples down the Jets’ defensive front. If Williams can do that again, it’s going to be a bad day to be Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

The Broncos’ secondary is among the best in the NFL so far this season. Even so, the Jets still have Aaron Rodgers at quarterback who should be trying to keep Denver’s defense on their toes by toss the ball around the yard. Let’s see him and Wilson officially have a breakout party in this one against Surtain.

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

The New York Jets should not enter NFL week 4 taking the Denver Broncos lightly, especially with defensive back Patrick Surtain II on their depth chart.

Over the last two weeks, the Broncos have held opponents to an average of 10 points per game. Sure, Denver hasn’t played a quarterback with the caliber of Aaron Rodgers this season but they are looking to challenge the Jets’ offensive in the absence of tackle Morgan Moses.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett should not get too experimental with his play calling, that is, until the Jets see their attack catch rhythm.

Hackett’s quick passing attack will be met by the physicality and quickness of Surtain, so opting for zone runs and back shoulder throws to wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams make sense.

The Jets ruled the time of possession stat category in week 3, converting a total of 27 first downs. However, the Broncos defense did produce seven sacks in their last match-up and are planning to stifle the Jets offense if they happen to get off track.

The sideline view of Garrett Wilson’s TD vs. the Patriots is even better

The sideline view of Garrett Wilson’s TD vs. the Patriots is even better:

The Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson connection is growing.

The evidence was found during the Jets’ 24-3 win over the Patriots on Thursday. The Week 3 victory featured a touchdown catch by Wilson which was very impressive.

It looks even better if you were standing right there. It’s clear his footwork is top tier.

A sideline view of Wilson’s score has popped up on social media and it can be found right here:

This Aaron Rodgers stat about his TD throw to Garrett Wilson is just bonkers

This is the wildest fact.

Through Aaron Rodgers’ years as a Green Bay Packers legend, all we talked about is how the QB never truly got the help he needed at the wide receiver position through the draft.

Year after year, the franchise would take a defensive player in the first round, or in the case of 2020, Rodgers’ replacement in Jordan Love.

Fast-forward to Thursday night. Rodgers is obviously now a New York Jet, and he tossed a touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson in the win over the New England Patriots.

That connection is the first time EVER that Rodgers had thrown a touchdown pass to a receiver who was a first-round pick.

Is your mind blown? Mine is.

Jets vs. Patriots: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 3

Jets vs. Patriots: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 3

The New York Jets will host the New England Patriots in their upcoming Week 3 matchup.

Even with it being a big, early season AFC East clash, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Thursday’s Jets (1-1) against the Patriots (1-1) matchup:

OL Tyron Smith vs. ED Keion White

(Imagn)

Early in 2024, White is the Patriots’ best defender coming off of the edge. Life without Matthew Judon has gone better than expected because of White and his four sacks in two games.

White will see plenty of Tyron Smith across from him. Pro Football Focus has graded Smith as the 15th best tackle in the NFL after two weeks and he needs to keep up that pace for the sake of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his team’s running backs behind him.

LB Jamien Sherwood vs. RB Rhamondre Stevenson

(USAT)

Starting middle linebacker CJ Mosley is officially listed as questionable with a toe injury. On a short week, it seems unlikely that he will be fit to play.

Sherwood replaced him last week against the Titans and performed well. He led New York with 12 tackles and was PFF’s highest-graded Jets defender in the 24-17 win.

Sherwood will not be on his own trying to stop Stevenson but he will play a huge part in it. Stevenson is second in the NFL with 201 rushing yards.

WR Garrett Wilson vs. CB Jonathan Jones

(Imagn)

Wilson does lead the Jets in receiving yards with 117 through two games, but there’s more meat on that bone. It’s understandable as him and Rodgers are only two games into building their connection.

Jones will provide a tough matchup for Wilson. PFF has Jones at a solid 71.1 overall mark so far in 2024 and he’s clearly New England’s best defensive back. If Wilson causes him problems, there will be a ripple effect across the Patriots defense.

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is beginning to function well with wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

The quick passing game seems to be working in the Jets offense with Wilson and running back Breece Hall working as primary targets. The accurate quick-throws made by Rodgers are impeccable and nearly unstoppable at times.

Rodgers likes to get Wilson the football in space where his agility and speed will allow for yards after the catch. Both players spent countless hours working through training camp to build timing and rapport and while things are still a work in progress, Wilson produced four catches on just five targets, finishing with 57 receiving yards in week 2.

As long as offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett commits to a healthy balance of both run and pass plays, Rodgers can target Wilson at fairer volumes.Wilson gives his team an advantage in 1-on-1 situations, and it’s definitely because he has one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history to throw him the ball.
