Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall named Rising Stars by NFLPA for 2023

Two rising stars for the Jets, says the NFLPA.

Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson wasted no time jumping into the NFL waters as a rookie, reaching 1,100 yards despite having four different quarterbacks at one point or another during the season. He went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Running back Breece Hall looked to be on his way to winning the award before an ACL injury ended his season in Week 7. Hall finished with 463 yards and four touchdowns on just 80 carries.

2023 could be an even bigger year for the Nos. 10 and 36 picks of the 2022 draft with Aaron Rodgers in the mix. Wilson can move closer to being a star in the NFL while Hall can show he can be a very good NFL running back and, as such, were named a Rising Star and “poised to take over” as a retail king by the NFL Players Association.

The NFLPA’s Rising Stars are players that “showcases 10 rookies and 10 veteran players who are not only expected to have a significant impact on retail sales of officially licensed NFLPA player merchandise but are also projected to compete for the top spot on the NFLPA Top 50 Players Sales charts.”

Fans already love the two top offensive rookies from 2022 and they should become more household names in 2023 with an offense more on track than it was in 2022.

Jets land four players on CBS Sports’ top 100 list

The Jets see some good representation with CBS’ top 100.

The summer is right around the corner which means a yearly staple of the offseason is coming soon: the NFL Players’ Top 100 list.

You’ve come across these lists over the years, where players across the league rank their top players and it comes together in a multi-part series on NFL Network during the summer.

As a result, other places across the media try their hand at making a top-100 list as well. CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco recently did so and the Jets make a pretty good appearance on the list.

Four players crack the top 100 for CBS, all within the top 70 with three among the top 30 and one in the top 20 — you can probably guess that player or perhaps all four without even looking.

Let’s check out those players and what CBS and Prisco had to say about each player.

ESPN ranks Jets’ core group in top ten of league

The Jets have a pretty good core.

One of the key components of building an NFL roster is filling out every spot as best you can, from 1-53. You have an even better chance when you can get that core group of players that bring out the best in the rest of the roster and make your team better as a whole.

The Jets are no different than the rest of the teams. They have the key core players that they hope will lead them on a deep playoff run this season, a season in which they are pushing all their chips into the middle of the table.

That core also looks pretty strong. In fact, in a recent piece by ESPN’s Seth Walder, he ranked the roster cores for each team and the Jets checked in among the top ten at No. 8.

Note: the average age comes from the players’ ages on September 7, Opening Day of the NFL season when the Lions visit the Chiefs.

Roster core: QB Aaron Rodgers, CB Sauce Gardner, DT Quinnen Williams, WR Garrett Wilson, G Alijah Vera-Tucker

Average core age: 26.8

Questions will linger until the regular season regarding which version of Rodgers the Jets will get, but this group has unquestioned upside. Gardner is a true Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Wilson could easily ascend to a top-10 wide receiver after a strong rookie campaign and Williams is a top-five defensive tackle.

Very hard to argue that group being the Jets’ core and there’s no question they are the heart and soul now of the Jets. Obviously, the average age is bumped up because of Rodgers (turning 40 in December). The average age of the other four is 23.75. Not a bad group to have, especially in the loaded AFC.

GMFB names Garrett Wilson top breakout wide receiver candidate

Year 2 could be a breakout for last year’s OROY.

Garrett Wilson burst onto the scene as a rookie last season with over 1,100 receiving yards while having four different quarterbacks at one point or another. His play earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Entering his second year — and having Aaron Rodgers throw him the football — Wilson is set to take the league by storm. Count Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football among his believers this season. Schrager ranked his top five breakout wide receiver candidates for 2023. Wilson landed at the very top of the list.

“Wilson had monster numbers and an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year season with maybe the worst quarterbacks room in the entire NFL a year ago,” Schrager said, as video of OTAs played on the screen.

“He and Rodgers are going to have their own sort of chemistry,” he added.

It’s hard to argue. After seeing how good Wilson was last year with the quarterback play he had, one can only imagine what he can produce with Rodgers behind center. Fantasy owners are salivating at his prospects, let alone Jets fans and now the national media.

Robert Saleh says Jets ‘love our current group’ of wide receivers

Do you agree with Saleh?

The Jets were busy adding weapons for quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, including former Packers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb along with former Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman.

Along with reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, the Jets have quite a stable at the position — even with trading Elijah Moore to Cleveland and the status of Corey Davis up in the air.

Still, there were some rumblings that maybe the Jets would go after recently released wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Head coach Robert Saleh seemed to pour cold water on that notion this week.

“We love our current group,” Saleh said. “I know there was some stuff with Odell [Beckham Jr.], but other than that we love our group.”

In a way, it’s hard not to love the group, especially with Rodgers throwing them the football. Garrett Wilson had over 1,100 receiving yards with Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco and Mike White throwing the football. Imagine what he can get with Rodgers.

Rodgers and Lazard formed a strong connection in Green Bay and Cobb and Rodgers are two peas in a pod. For the first time in a while, there’s excitement brewing with the Jets’ offense. Sure, Hopkins would be a major addition, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he signs elsewhere — unless he signs with New England. Regardless, this is a fun group that is ready to put on a show.

Jets land three players on ESPN’s top 100 fantasy football rankings

How are you viewing the Jets in fantasy football?

Fantasy football drafts are right around the corner, meaning draft boards and rankings are starting to be built. That’s true over at ESPN, where Field Yates recently unveiled his top 100 players for fantasy football and three Jets make an appearance on the board. The rankings are based on PPR (points per reception) scoring.

Reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year WR Garrett Wilson checks in at No. 22 overall and the No. 11 wide receiver. So in a standard 12-team league, that’s good enough to be a second-round pick and a low-end No. 1 receiver in a starting lineup. Having a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers throwing you the football will help your ceiling reach even higher, especially considering he reached 1,100 yards while having four different quarterbacks last season.

Also making an appearance in the top 50 is RB Breece Hall, who could have been Offensive Rookie of the Year himself if it wasn’t for his ACL injury. He ranks No. 47 overall and as the No. 20 running back. That’s a late-third/early-fourth-round spot for Hall and a solid RB2 on your team.

The third player on the list is the aforementioned Rodgers. This also shows how deep quarterbacks have become in fantasy. Rodgers is No. 80 overall and the 13th-ranked quarterback. In fact, he checks in right behind Tua Tagovailoa (No. 78 overall, No. 11 quarterback) and Geno Smith (No. 79 overall, No. 12 quarterback). That would put Rodgers in the seventh round of drafts. For comparison, the top three quarterbacks (Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts) are in the top 30 of Yates’ rankings.

Other potential deeper options could include WRs Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman and TE Tyler Conklin.

Four former Ohio State players on PFF’s top 32 NFL receivers of 2023

WRU??? #GoBucks

There is a legit argument for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and the moniker of Wide Receiver U.

The Buckeyes have recently sent multiple high-level receivers to the NFL and many of them have been making large contributions to their respective teams.

Pro Football Focus has ranked the top 32 receivers ahead of the 2023 season, and it should come as no surprise that more than a few Buckeyes made their list.

With four on the list, it makes the Buckeyes have 12.5% of the best receivers in the game. Find out below who and where each former Ohio State star landed on PFF’s list with part of Sam Monson’s rationale for being included.

Jets land two players on PFF’s ‘25 under 25 list’

Gardner and Wilson among the best of the NFL’s young blood

The Jets have some excellent young talent on their roster. They’re not just the best such players on their own team, they have some of the best young players in the entire league. That was evidenced again recently as Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus shared his top 25 players under the age of 25.

The Jets found two players on that list and you can probably safely guess which two they are before even reading further.

Spoiler alert: It’s Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. Shocking, isn’t it?

Gardner came in at No. 5 on the list and Wilson was No. 19.

Here’s what Sikkema had to say about Gardner:

Some might call it an overreaction for Gardner to be so high on the list after just one year in the NFL. But that one year was so impressive that it’s hard to have him much lower. He recorded an elite 90.0 coverage grade with 20 forced incompletions and less than 400 receiving yards allowed on 613 total coverage snaps. As often is the case with rookies, he was targeted constantly (74 times), but he remained a shutdown player.

And here’s what he had to say about Wilson:

Wilson led all rookie receivers last year with 26 explosive plays of 20 yards or more — and that was with sub-par quarterback play (to put it lightly). His recording more than 1,100 receiving yards is an accomplishment in and of itself, but when you take into account who was throwing him the ball, it’s even more impressive. With Aaron Rodgers under center for 2023, and potentially beyond, expect another great year from the former Buckeye.

Just another example of how the Jets have their core of players now and are ready to continue building on that core and really start to make a run here in 2023.

Garrett Wilson knows higher expectations means ‘eyes are on us’

The Jets know they now have a target in their backs this year

The New York Jets started building their foundation in 2022 with the drafting of Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, among others. They started seeing how they can be a really good football team. Fast forward to 2023 and the addition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and now expectations are the highest they’ve been in years for the Jets.

One person that understands that fully is Wilson, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

“We know that eyes are on us,” Wilson said Wednesday. “You add someone like that (in reference to Rodgers) and we expect to compete with everyone in the league, beat everyone in the league. We expect to do that.”

The over/under is currently sitting at 9.5 wins for the Jets who are ready to make a run not only at their first AFC East title since 2002 but their first Super Bowl in over 55 years.

Coming off a 7-win season that was riddled with injuries following a promising 5-2 start, this feels like the year the Jets end what is now the longest playoff drought in the NFL and tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the longest among all four major sports. Anything short of that would be a major disappointment for the franchise after going all in this offseason.

Watch: Jets coaches and Aaron Rodgers together on practice field for first time

The first of many passes from Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson

Phase two of the Jets’ offseason program began Monday, meaning coaches and players were able to be on the field for the first time this offseason. That meant Robert Saleh and company were able to work with new quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the first time since acquiring the veteran last week.

The Jets’ social media account shared a quick video of some of Rodgers’ work with wide receiver Garrett Wilson in what should be a tease of many good things to come in 2023.
