WATCH: Memphis basketball star James Wiseman withdraws lawsuit against NCAA

James Wiseman and his legal team withdrew their lawsuit against the NCAA on Thursday.

Memphis basketball star James Wiseman and the NCAA seem to be one step closer to a resolution as the freshman fights for eligibility.

Wiseman and his legal team withdrew their lawsuit against the NCAA on Thursday as, per a statement from his legal team, the lawsuit against the NCAA is impeding a resolution regarding his eligibility.

The NCAA declared him ineligible in early November due to an “extra benefit” from 2017. Wiseman and his mother, Donzaleigh Artis, accepted approximately $11,000 from Penny Hardaway, who was a high school basketball coach in Memphis at the time. Though Hardaway was not working for the University of Memphis at that point, he was considered a booster as he had made a $1 million donation to the university back in 2008.

Wiseman’s legal team filed the suit last week because he had already been declared eligible for this season back in May. The lawsuit deemed the NCAA’s actions “arbitrary and capricious.”

Memphis has declared Wiseman ineligible as the NCAA continues its work on the case. In a statement released Thursday, Memphis announced that it would immediately apply for Wiseman’s reinstatement. The team leader in points, rebounds and blocks will be able to practice with his team as the NCAA’s investigation continues.

Brady’s personal trainer and business partner, Alex Guerrero, revealed what the conversation about potential retirement is like between the two men on a regular basis.

Speaking to WEEI Thursday, Guerrero said, “I certainly do believe that 45 is a very realistic goal. We talk about it all the time. Every year he just adds another year. He goes in and he’s like, ‘Guys, I feel so good still. I think I am going to go till 45.’ I am like, ‘OK.’ Now he’s like, ‘Alex, I think I can go like 46 or 47.’”

Guerrero explained that it all comes down to commitment and recalled how many skeptics there were about the Patriot playing at an elite level in his late 30s and early 40s.

New England’s perfect record is no longer intact, as the Ravens spoiled that before the Pats (8-1) entered their bye week during Week 10. Heading into Week 11, Brady has completed 230 of 355 pass attempts for 2,536 passing yards and 14 touchdowns this season.

WATCH: Yankees GM Cashman adds talks with Bumgarner’s agency to offseason to-do list

It is already on the table that New York wants to go after Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg, who both come off outstanding runs in the 2019 World Series.

The Yankees have plans to pursue big-name pitching during the off-season. It is already on the table that New York wants to go after Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg, who both come off outstanding runs in the 2019 World Series.

Now, General Manager Brian Cashman is adding former Giants ace Madison Bumgarner to his wish list.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that Cashman confirmed the 30-year-old is a guy the Yankees will try to sign during free agency.

“I will definitely talk to Bumgarner’s agency,” the Yankees general manager said. “I haven’t. But I will. He’s been a tremendous player for a long time.

“We’re going to look at everybody that’s out there, obviously. Starting pitching is important, and he’s been one of the game’s better starting pitchers for a long time. So we’ll certainly have a conversation.”

WATCH: Cam Newton is reportedly open to joining Chicago Bears next season

Cam Newton plans to have surgery on his foot and that the career-long Panther would be open to joining the Chicago Bears next season.

A little more than a week after the Panthers placed Cam Newton on injured reserve, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the quarterback plans to have surgery on his foot and that the career-long Panther would be open to joining the Chicago Bears next season.

Newton has one year left on his contract with the Panthers after back-to-back offseason shoulder injuries, and now two consecutive seasons shortened by injury. The Panthers will owe Newton $19.1 million in 2020, with a salary-cap hit of $21.1 million, but that $19.1 million is not guaranteed.

The 30-year-old got hurt during the preseason, then again in Week 2 when a foot injury ended his season. Initially, the injury was not seen as being as severe as it became. Deemed a Lisfranc injury, the left foot injury could be made better by surgery to repair the torn ligament in Newton’s foot.

Surgery and an 8-10 week recovery period would make Newton “very tradable,” (according to Rapoport) to a team like the Bears. The plan is something that Rapoport says “from my understanding, Cam Newton would in fact welcome.”

Bears head coach Matt Nagy is in need of improvement at the quarterback position. Mitchell Trubisky, who the franchise drafted second overall in 2017, has regressed this season.

WATCH: San Francisco Giants hire Gabe Kapler as new manager

Gabe Kapler is now the manager of the San Francisco Giants.

About a month after being fired by the Phillies, Gabe Kapler is now the manager of the San Francisco Giants. He takes over for Bruce Bochy, who retired this fall after 25 years as a manager, including 13 seasons with the Giants.

Kapler was fired Oct. 10 after two years in Philadelphia, where his squad hovered around .500 both seasons.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said at the end of San Francisco’s 2019 season that the number one quality in their next manager would be relationship building with the players.

Zaidi and Kapler worked together a few years ago in Los Angeles, where Zaidi was the Dodgers’ general manager and Kapler served as the director of player development.
