UNC Basketball vs. FSU: Game preview, info, prediction and more

We preview the ACC matchup between the UNC basketball program and FSU.

The North Carolina men’s basketball program kicks off their conference play against Florida State on Saturday, looking to repeat their offensive performance from the Tennessee win.

The Tar Heels were clicking on all cylinders Wednesday night, largely due to their transition in fast breaks, ball movement, and good shot selection. The newly acquired players have stepped up to become leaders as Hubert Davis has leaned on transfers Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, and five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau.

Along with the new talent stepping up, UNC veterans Armando Bacot and RJ Davis look hungrier than ever for a national title run. To accomplish this, the Tar Heels will need to handle business, especially in the ACC and that starts Saturday.

FSU might not be the defensive juggernaut that Tennessee is, but conference play is always turned up to another level.

As UNC gets ready for its ACC game, let’s get into our preview for the Tar Heels and FSU.

Joel Klatt releases new top 10 following Week 9

Who are your top 4?

Another week of college football has come and gone.  It wasn’t the most marquee Saturday on the fall slate but it did see previously undefeated Oklahoma fall to Kansas.

Joel Klatt was on hand for that one as the lead college football analyst for Fox Sports has now released his new top 10 rankings following Week 9 of the season.

Who does Klatt have ranked as his top team?

Here at Fighting Irish Wire we were curious if Notre Dame’s 58-7 win over Pitt was enough to move them into the top 10.  Did it?

And who isn’t Klatt perhaps as high on as many others might be?

See it all here in Joel Klatt’s newly released top 10 ratings, including a few teams just on the outside of his top 10.

Predicting the initial College Football Playoff rankings for 2023

How will the CFP rankings look on Tuesday night?

A year from now we’ll be discussing what the first 12-team playoff in college football will look like.  Who will be in and the cases of the contenders will be made against one another like they are now, just instead with teams rated from 8-15 instead of from 3-7 or so like today.

But in our final year of the four-team College Football Playoff, just who sits with a better case for playoff consideration than others?

Clearly the unbeaten Power Five teams have their own cases but if any are to fall, who is primed to swoop in?

With us being just days from the initial rankings being announced, here’s our best guess at what those rankings will look like Tuesday night.

Kirk Herbstreit releases updated top-six following Week 8

Which unbeated Power Five team would you not have in your CFP today and why?

College football has hit the midway point for the 2023 regular season and it feels like in some cases we have answers but in plenty more we just have more questions than back in September.

If the College Football Playoff were to start today, how would you rank the top teams?  Which undefeated Power Five team would you have sitting on the outside looking in and why?

Kirk Herbstreit of ESPN’s College Gameday and who calls one of the biggest games each week for the ABC family of networks ranked his updated top-six teams in college football.  Obviously two-loss Notre Dame isn’t in there but how high did a certain Irish opponent from 2023 check-in?

Here are Herbstreit’s top-six teams following Week 8 of the 2023 college football season.[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]

Saints spotted scouting Florida State-Clemson matchup in CFB Week 4

The Saints were spotted scouting Florida State’s matchup with Clemson on Saturday. They’ve spent a lot of time around both programs recently:

The New Orleans Saints were spotted scouting Florida State’s matchup with Clemson this week, per ESPN’s Jordan Reid, who listed them among 11 NFL teams in attendance for Saturday’s game. They’ve spent a lot of time around both programs recently — Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland visited FSU’s campus two weeks ago, and of course the team’s top rookie draft pick Bryan Bresee comes from Clemson.

It makes sense to give the prospects in this game the attention they’re due. Florida State’s Jared Verse is one of the most exciting pass rushers eligible for the 2024 draft class, and his teammate Keon Coleman is making an argument to be picked in the first round at wide receiver. Coleman lined up often against Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins, one of several first-round defensive prospects for the Tigers along with linebackers Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

All of this attention doesn’t mean the Saints will pick any of these players in the 2024 draft. It probably doesn’t mean anything. But it could mean something. We’ll keep it in mind when the offseason rolls around and the draft news cycle picks up.

College football: Notre Dame moves into top 10 of AP Poll

Notre Dame into the top 10!

Week 1 of college football came and went with a lot of blowouts but some surprise upsets as well.

Colorado was the story of the weekend, stunning TCU on the road as a nearly three-touchdown underdog while Duke closed the weekend with a rather dominating showing against previously No. 9 Clemson.

The US LBM Coaches Poll was revealed Tuesday and saw both teams enter while 2-0 Notre Dame checked in at No. 11.  Now the AP Poll is out and has Notre Dame even higher.

Below is the AP Top 25 poll.  Notre Dame plays four teams that made the updated rankings and three more that showed up in the receiving votes category.  See it all below.

Joel Klatt names biggest win, biggest statement of CFB Week 1

Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt declares his biggest win, biggest statement, and best performance of Week 1.

Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt has a lot of games to choose from as the biggest win, the biggest statement, and the best performance of Week 1.

Klatt certainly isn’t giving high praise to any part of Georgia’s season opening victory over UT Martin. The Bulldogs will have chances to impress Klatt and the rest of the college football world later in the season.

The Florida State Seminoles proved Joel Klatt wrong in Week 1. He was higher on LSU than Florida State in the preseason.

Who team or player earned Joel Klatt’s vote as the biggest win, biggest statement and best performance of Week 1?

College football: Social media roasts Brian Kelly after FSU routs LSU

You hate to see it.

For the third time in three seasons, Brian Kelly spent Labor Day weekend taking on Florida State.

In 2021, Kelly and Notre Dame escaped Tallahassee with an overtime win after blowing a three-touchdown lead in the second half.

Last year, Kelly’s first game as LSU head coach ended with LSU having an extra point blocked. The kick would have sent the game into overtime in New Orleans.

Then there was Sunday night when No. 5 LSU had a 17-14 halftime lead against No. 8 Florida State only to surrender 31 straight second-half points and lose, 45-24.

As you can probably expect, social media had a field day on Brian Kelly following the defeat. Here are some of the best.

4-star UGA linebacker commit projected to flip

Five-star linebacker recruit Jadon Perlotte may be reconsidering his commitment to Georgia

Four-star linebacker recruit Jadon Perlotte has been committed to the Georgia Bulldogs since Dec. 2022. However, he appears to be reconsidering his decision.

Perlotte plays football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford is one of the top high school football programs in Georgia. Perlotte is high school teammates with five-star Georgia quarterback commitment Dylan Raiola. He is also teammates with five-star Florida State commit KJ Bolden.

Perlotte is projected to flip his commitment to Florida State, per 247Sports. If Perlotte switches his commitment, it would be a tough blow to Georgia in the 2025 cycle, but it would not be the end of the world for the Bulldogs.

Kirby Smart and Georgia have the top recruiting class in the nation in both the 2024 and 2025 recruiting cycles. It is still very early in the process for the class of 2025, so Georgia would have plenty of time to find other top linebackers.

Perlotte is not Georgia’s only 2025 commitment still weighing his options. Five-star offensive tackle Micah DeBose provided an update on his recruitment earlier in August.

Perlotte, who grew up as a Georgia fan, is the No. 34 recruit nationally and the No. 7 recruit in Georgia in the class of 2025. The elite linebacker is the fifth-ranked player at his position in the cycle.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker runs track and has committed to playing in the 2025 All-American Bowl.

4-star OL Jonathan Daniels makes commitment

Four-star offensive line recruit Jonathan Daniels had UGA football in his top three schools, but is going in another direction.

Four-star offensive line recruit Jonathan Daniels committed to Florida State over Georgia and Kentucky.

Daniels went on June official visits to each of his top three schools, but ending up rolling with the Seminoles.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman is considered both an offensive tackle and interior offensive line recruit. Daniels plays high school football for Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida, meaning he plans to stay close to home at Florida State.

Daniels is ranked as the No. 104 recruit in the nation and the No. 5 interior offensive lineman, per 247Sports. Daniels is the No. 12 player in Florida.

Florida State has 17 commitments in the class of 2024 and the No. 11 recruiting class in the country.

Georgia recently solidified its class of 2024 with a commitments from a number of massive four-star offensive line recruits. Kirby Smart and Georgia have the top-ranked class of 2024 in the country. The Dawgs have 26 commitments in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Georgia football holds commitments from six offensive line recruits in the rising senior class, so the Bulldogs may be set on the offensive front for the class of 2024.

Daniels announced his commitment to Florida State via social media:
